Blue Fin Tuna Fishing San Diego aboard the Islander
This was an epic trip targeting big blue fin tuna aboard the Islander. Big thank to the crew and captain who did an exceptional job on helping us landing these giants.

Bluefin aboard the Liberty - San Diego Sportfishing
You should have instructed that nimrod at 5:16 to not walk around with his rod in his armpit at the bait tank like he's jousting Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones. Why is it always the people that can't rinse their hands after grabbing bait and their rod is covered in scales???
I have the same Saltiga LD 40 2 speed, great reels and have a lot of drag with a smooth fee-spool. The only 2 speed that I have ever experienced that cast like a star drag.
The fathom and torque do also.
Did I hear you said Dao Ma? 😂😂😂 Dao Ma, that baby yellowtail kicks you ass!! Good job, and thank you for sharing.
I have the same reel, Daiwa Saltiga reels are some of the best.
its it true they sold the boat?
Good action, hooked up every time 👍🎣
Great video !!!! Do you have any issues with fish popping off more using just a fluoro leader?
Congrats dude🎉!Nice fish, good battle! Good idea to speed up video n spare us long monotonous watch, great video! Thanks! 🎣
You might need to get that scale re calibrated, but nice job!
Not even a swell in site. Congrats. Dont moth ball that soup
hate the people who think there the shit when they have a go pro
Jack is a great deckhand. Him and Ryan and Matty are great dudes
Great fish
Love the Islander. It’s my favorite boat!
cool fish. the fast forward video was fun. those smaller reels would never make it here on party boats in Nj for the tuna. you would have to have 300 yards of mono tops if using braid. head boats don't care for braid much and I can understand. we don't use live baits either accept any live squid you caught just dead butterfish which is good for me-dont like to see anything suffer. people take 3 seconds to clean up the bait fish on the deck when you see them, don't leave them there so no one slipped please.
What’s up Cody, hope to see your Dad on a trip this year.
The Islander is such a good boat, very well laid out and comfortable. The crew kicks ass. This boat is actually the former Red Rooster II. This boat rocks.
Ahhh, never mind , I see it in your intro.
I knew it lol
Unbelievable to hookup one after another that are monsters. Nice job! What size hook were you using?
This was a 2/0 Owner circle hook. I actually landed 6 of these on this trip, the biggest is 160lb and smallest is 75lb, the rest are somewhere from 90-120lb lol.
Was it on a 1.5 days trip?
Yeah, just take your time don’t worry about it😂
Lol
That first one you pulled out of his mouth. Wind!!! :)
It looks like a PCH Okuma 801 rod with a Daiwa Saltiga 3521 reel, I have this set up and I land over 100lb tunas on seaguar green label fluorocarbon 40,or 30lb test line leader.
What rod and reel?
Daiwa Saltiga 40 pair with Okuma PCH-C 801XH.
What testline braid to mono?
Dammm bro what a good day we havend had luck yet but great video brother new sub im here to stay 🤙🏾👍🏾🇨🇴
Thank you 👍
SHOOT IN THE 60'S / 70'S AT THE HORSESHOE KELP THEY AVERAGED 8LBS THOSE ARE DINKS!
Was that a saltiga ld2sp you were casting?
Looks like your a big Diawa fan.
I really love these Saltiga reels 😁
Hey some great Benito fishing that was really cool
Nice fish but wayyyyy too many people on that boat. Having to go over and under people is just too much work to catch a fish.
Full Day boats are often crowded like this 😁
Why do you cast across a row of other lines? I’ll be staring at you
Do you remember what hook you were using brother?
It was a 1/0 J hook.
Looks so sik boutta go on a 3/4 this week
Good luck out there.
Often, the first thing that's noticed is you caught a lot of fish. But , I'm noticing what made it possible. Excellent casting skills, realizing when to switch equipment (you were killing them on the tranx, but switched to a two speed),you often had a bait pinned and back in the water in less than thirty seconds. Impressive!
very true but it the skills that ya use on any tackle and on trips that ya fish
Ich gehe gerne mit Frauen mit krummen Beinen schwimmen und schwimme zwischen ihren Beinen. (:
What kind of hooks were you using?
J hook works better for yellowtail. Circle hook for tuna
@@chaosfishing_thelimitboy good job fishing!
@Blueskies 30lb leader with 1/0 J hook is about right for yellowtail. I go straight from 50/65 lb braid to fluoro.
@Blueskies Also come prepared for the jumbo size blue fin tuna. You should have nothing lighter than 80lb test and a 2/0 circle hook for these fish.

Nice video and catch man! Did they bite mostly on live bait?
Yeah, live bait works best
@@chaosfishing_thelimitboy ty might be going out on the Liberty soon🤝
@@TheLaosak47 Good luck out there.
We caught 30lbs & bigger when i went on there.
Hate to see all the smallies gaffed..but good video.
Great video !!!
Great content!!!! On a trip like this , how many set ups do you bring and type of set ups?
I usually have have 4, two flylining rods, 1 jig rod, and 1 sinker rod. Just in case we run into some big blue fin tuna. 4 is more than enough but I just want to be well prepared cuz you never know what you might run into even with a full day trip like this.
Nice, what weight leader line were you using? Going out on the Aztec this Friday, can only hope it's as good as your trip!
You can use 30lb leader for yellowtail, but atleast 40lb and up for blue fin tuna. There are big boys in the area. Good luck out there.
yes i will be sounds good thank you tight lines
thank you im going out in mid june
You are welcome. Its a good idea to have a couple troll rods out if you are on your own boat. Some of the yellowtails are mix with a school of bonito.
Grate video. were you guys on a kelp paddy? or were they free swimmers. how far did you go out.
Some of them are on kelp paddy, some of them are free swimmers. We were about 20 miles west of Coronado Island.
Another great video, what rod and reel are you using?
This was Okuma PCH-C 801XH rod pair with Daiwa Saltiga 35 2 speeds reel.
What a great video, what rod is that with the tranx?
Man why do you keep losing your bait?
He is good at getting in everyone way, listing to the skip, put on a colt sniper and fish the slide
What a great trip!! I’m curious what diawa reel is that and what OKUMA rod did you pair it with? What lb line?
Its a Daiwa Saltiga 35 spooled with 65lb braid+ 30lb florou that paired with an Okuma PCH-C-801XH. Hope this help. Tight line brother.
