Why yuo steel my name?._.
I watched SBY under the American title "Star Blazers". I love the original version instead of the updated. Leji Matsumato didn't create himself. It was originated by Yoshinobu NIshizaki under his title "Asteroid Ship Icuras". Watch the documentary Space Battleship Yamato Making of an Anime Legend. It's really interesting. I even met english voice actors Tom Tweety(Mark Venture), and Amy Howard Wilson(Nova) at anime conventions and explained about how they audition and the memories of recording the series.
For me, Space Battleship Yamato is the best anime of all time, I repeat, for me, I simply love it, and largely because of the music, I simply have no words to describe how much I love its music, heck, SBY's intro is the only intro I completely memorized in Japanese, then the story for me, except for a few very specific moments, its wonderful, and the designs of the ships, and the personalities of the characters, it truly captivated me completely, i honestly hope it never ends 😅
Thank you for introducing me to this version. I used to watch Star Blazers in the early 80s in Jr. High. This is such a great update! Is there a comparable version of Mobile Suite Gundam (1979)
Sorry for me it is and forever will be Star Blazers. I grew up watching it when it aired here back in the late 70's.
I remember as a kid counting down the days of Yamato's mission. Suffice to say, i always emptied my plate, brush my teeth and finished my homework so i can watch an episode 😊
There´s no inspiring Cartoon as Yamato!!!! I thank so much that I watched here in Brazil in 1983 the original version.
the real IJN Yamato wreck was split in half, one of the halfs is capsized fr fr
Dessler? I thought his name was "Dessloch". And ironically enough, there was a German commander on the East Front (Luftflotte or Airfleet) named Otto Dessloch.
My honest opinion on all reboots 2199: Masterpiece Odyssey of the Celestial Ark: Masterpiece 2202: Mid 2205: Dogshit 3199: Dogshit
*loud incorrect buzzer*

NOTHING got me to RUN directly home after school like the promise of an episode of "Star Blazers" on TV and if I was VERY fast, I'd get through the door in time to catch the whole opening song. Yes, I caught the original TV run (I was 5 in '74) and when the 3rd series "The Bolar Wars" got released, it was such a departure from the 1st and second series- new voice actors, dubbing that sounded rushed, a story that felt 'dumbed down', etc.- and I wouldn't watch it in its' entirety until the 2000's. The movies really depend on the dubbing (I don't mind the subtitles, but a good dub is appreciated) since the animation is SUPERB. I would LOVE to see anyone do an in-depth look at "Yamato: Resurrection"- where Kodai/Wildstar is tasked with taking a rebuilt Yamato out to face a new threat 17 years after the end of the 3rd Series. Zandar/Sandor runs the Earth Defense Force, Shima/Venture's little brother works with Sandor, and a new crew is chosen. Seeing the rebuilt Yamato with a SIX-CHAMBERED Wave Motion Engine capable of of firing SIX Wave Motion Gun shots in succession or ONE shot that'll do serious damage to the ship is enough to stall your brain, and the effect of missles/torpedoes that explode into an energy shield capable of absorbing huge amounts of damage from incoming attacks, and seeing it go full Broadside to Broadside with another ship was just incredible. I could not have been happier to see the anime STILL in the capable hands of Yoshinobu Nishizaki until his passing just a few years ago (RIP), and his successors have done a fine job carrying the torch in his absence. I still get 'giddy' when I replay the 1970's 'disco-version' of the Comet Empire Theme. More folks could stand to watch this amazing series.
It's definitely allegorical to WWII, just not point per point. The main difference is that the entire planet is uniting against an alien threat as well as including an environmental challenge that supersedes the need to defeat the enemy. It challenges the assumption that use of weapons of mass destruction at the cost of life on an entire planet is justified....though I guess the destruction of the comet empire is the exception being that they are considered evil and not really a planet.
Possibly my favourite anime. The original (plus grew up with Starblazers) and now this one. I think i do love the 2199 more than the original, but prefer the original second season than the 2202 Warriors in Love.
Matsumoto's themes drenched this series, and his later works are a much less compromised (for better or worse) expression of the ideas you noticed revolving around each other in a weird way in 2202. I really love 2202, because it gets into the trippier side of the Master's thoughts, which appeal to me greatly. Thanks for helping people find out about SBY!
I keep looking on thingiverse, hoping that someone will do models of the fighters that they used on the show.
cool story but if youve seen the yamato lately its completely wrecked. no way to rebuild anything out of it so....SPACE BATTLESHIP MISSOURI!!!!
We who lived the first who watched the first release of the Americanized releases appreciated it for how good this show really was and have kept the faith all these years. how the story line was much deeper and engaging than what we had at the time "Josie and the Pussy Cats in Outer space", "Space Ghost", "herculiods"to name a few although I do recall this shows fondly they paled in comparison" It has been noted that Calling it "Star Blazers" or " Space Battelship Yamato" is now synonymous with each other. You mentioned this had a real Greek mythology feel to it. The English translation referred to the Yamato as the Argo whic hwas the ship that Jason and the argonauts travelled on. The other gems that we have watched through the American censorship translation at the time another pivotal classic was "Battle of the Planets" which we later found out (again no internet or any real manga in the bookstores in the 70's when it was released) was called Gatchaman. I may speak for some may also remember the Black and white release of Astroboy and Prince Planet. Even the live action for runner to Mighty Morphin Power Ranges, called Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot.
Never was no toys when this was on only a model 😅
I love how the womens uniforms are skin tight with a hint of latex bondage porn. You go Japan, you gloriously sexist nerds 😂
It was not just desler, the guys wo made this show went as hard on the obscure 3rd reich references as possible and l love them for it.
In fact that Garmillas aren't actually evil species, The Cosmo Navy are the ones who fired first. They all fight their lives to save their dying planet, not until it happened in 2205 The Whisper of the Witch episode in Space Battleship Yamato is the only episode that has a horror in it
Should I watch all of it? (When I have time ofc)
Star Blazers was the first sci-fi I was exposed to and made the biggest impression on me and helped to mold the life I would lead. It was must see TV and every day I couldn't wait to get home from school to tune in at 330 PM to watch the next episode. Even though there were only 52 episodes, I watched it religiously for 2 years when it was on the air. When I heard about the reboot, I was excited to see it and was not disappointed. I agree with all of the good points made here and it was done right. This version seemed more "grown up" which was perfect. The show has a strong maritime/naval feel to it and I liked seeing the crew dynamics and its relationship with the ship itself. Perhaps the best improvement is how battles were handled. This time around they crafted them in a way that removed the impossible amounts of damage the Yamato received in the first go around. The concept of the wave motion shield was a good plot device to use when the ship had a real big fight on its hands. And it maneuvered in ways to dodge enemy fire.
I wanna squeeze Kodai hes so cute
Yeah this is awesome anime just like Space Captain Harlock I wish they did had a crossover between the two it would have been epic
I grew up in the 80's. I had to stop watching when dude called Star Blazers a "far inferior name." Fuck that noise.
My favorite anime❤
on the REBOOT SERIES I was reading some place on the internet this REBOOT SERIES used updated computer graphics. and where did you think they got the computer graphics from? the answer is.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... GUNDAM 00 you o know GUNDAM 00??????? it ran for 2 seasons and a movie once all of that is completed the GUNDAM 00 GRAPHIC ENGINE is not being used any more. after all the time and money put in to it the problem is what do do about it. DO A REBOOT SERIES OF SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO 2199 its cheaper to use a great working GUNDAM 00 GRAPHIC ENGINE its all ready completed and make a NEW GRAPHIC ENGINE is going to take way too much time and money that is going toi be used for a short amount of time and put it to the grave use what is they got GUNDAM 00 GRAPHIC ENGINE it keeps the cost down. while it delivered a MASTER PIECE
If having a reboot that is too good is a crime, the creator of this would have 4 death penalties
Star Blazers is the SUPERIOR name. Nobody outside of Japan gives a f about the Yamato.
Are they going to release a 3rd remake for the 3rd part?
ONE OF THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO ALL ANEME FANS, THE RETURN OF SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO AS 2199. UNFORTUNLY ON 2202 IT WAS A REAL FIASCO (DECEPTION).
I think the 2199 is the ultimate version of the original story. I loved how the new characters were added and old ones evolved, the Gamillian empire really resembles me of the Zeon Empire from Gundam. A masterpiece of Space Odyssey
Omg, longe live to Yamato. Ahu, ahu. 🤘😡🤘
Dony disrespet star blazzers it is all i knoe you pretend fan
Great video! I will make sure to check some of these animes out!
Oh, you made your case! Showing Nova big boobs at 19:29 was GREAT!
"Star Blazers" as a name has more to do with the success of "Star Wars" than it does with people not accepting the name "Yamato". There's a reason why Kodai's name was changed to "Derek Wildstar" in Star Blazers.
Stalin .... kkkkkk
One of the greatest animated properties EVER created. It was a huge influence on my brother and I and the reason we got into animation. We would not have created BLOOD OF ZEUS, if it wasn't for this property. Also, this remake was AMAZING!
So where can I watch this? I loved the OG and would love to watch this.
Isnt there like 2 live action films of Space Yamato too
The rebuilt Yamato was not the original (which was cut in half when the US repaid the Japanese for the Arizona), but a replica built and sunk on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the original Yamato.
Albert Dessler ..thats right ..Josef Stalin! :) What is going on?!
Sounds like Russian theme song :) North Korean? ..dont be angry We are all ONE ppl.
Is it YamAto or YamatO? ..it matters
Is that Russian polka music? :) Cool
As a fellow child of the 70's and fondly remembering running home after school as well to watch "Starblazers", I am comforted to be around so many of my spirit animals 😃
I’ve been wanting to watch Space Battleship Yamato 2205. Which streaming service is it on?
where can you watch this?
