Ha is weird to hear a person from outside the town describing it is unlike other places in respect of predominance of white population / less multi-cultural, less diverse community - when to contrast with speaking to most locals these days they would seem to be more likely to call out the town centre decline and what they see as a clear link to that occurring as it became increasingly multi-cultural, more diverse, less white. Aside from the national issues hitting all towns, I can't help but feel Swindon's decline has been impacted by planning decisions over recent decades - those being taken alongside wider downturns have just exacerbated the impact here.

Peterborough has some nice places and some poor places. Unfortunately everyone shops online but then moans that the shops are closing. A lot of those units were John Lewis so it seems a lot worse than it is. But saying that Queensgate is nothing compared to what it was twenty years ago 😢

I'd suggest that a lot of the empty land, shops or offices will get replaced with flats. The town is very overcrowded and the council doesn't seem to care when it's considering planning applications. There are always lots of flats being built.

Interesting video... I used to live in Peterborough, back in the 1980's and 1990's... Can recognize most of the places you visited, the Lincoln Road area hasn't changed much in 30 years... Sad to see the lovely John Lewis closed in Queensgate... Many of the outdoor scenes which you visited, seem to resemble the Alamo... Totally agree that this seems to be happening everywhere, in our once proud Country...?

You seem a lovely chap. When I was 16 or 17 I was going to join the parachute regiment and I was allowed to attend Aldershot and the parachute regiment for a familiarization weekend. I did enjoy it. But, the attraction of beer and woman led me to stay in college and go to university. I kind of regret not joining.

Aldershot is a shadow of what it once was. Unfortunately, Joanna Lumley has a lot to answer for.
