The Naussicans on Star Trek (the ones that stabbed Picard in the back, which required an artificial heart installation) were named after this film. Miazaki probably knew this.
i never new these great actors voiced this movie
uma thurmans insight on dubbing over japanese animation with regard to language.. so cool. i really respect all these actors for their insight and clear appreciation for the movie.
The best animated movie franchise to ever exist, still untouched to this day.
See? There's absolutely nothing wrong with celebrities voice actor as long as there's care put into the casting and direction.
I really miss when Disney was the distributor for Studio Ghibli dubs. They knew how to get voice actors who were not only well known, but did a fantastic job at bringing these beloved characters to English audiences. The cast didn't downplay their roles either, because it was a foreign cartoon, they gave it their all, just like any other film. Most English dubs of anime are awful, but Ghibli has the best localizations, thanks to John Lassetor and Disney. Ever since GKids took over the distribution, they admittedly did a better job than Disney at reprinting home media releases, along with making deals to have them streamed on MAX and Netflix, but they are terrible at putting in the effort of finding the right voice cast for the studio's last 2 films. I wasn't the biggest fan of the 2 films that released since Disney dropped the distribution rights. Earwig and the Witch, and The Boy and the Heron are honestly some of my most hated films from the studio for multiple reasons, including bad and confusing plots, unlikeable main characters, a less powerful music score, lame abrupt endings, and terrible voice acting. There's definitely been a drop in quality since Disney foolishly dropped them...
A fun bit of trivia: Lord Yupa was originally voiced by Gorō Naya, who voiced the captain in the iconic anime Space Battleship Yamato. Whoever thought to cast the captain of the Enterprise as his English language counterpart was pretty clever!
Always seen in japanese with subtitles
0:38 "She is strong, indipendence..." And absolutely and unbelievable sweet. Idiot!
Imagine the time when female mc's was strong, independant and kind as a part of their personality, not as a defenition of their femeninity. One of the most charismatic female mc's of all time.
IMHO, Nausicaa is one of the best female MC's in sci-fi; she's everything you want in a protagonist for this sort of story. What I like most about her is that she's a pacifist through and through, but she won't hesitate to take action, even violence, when it's needed. She feels guilty about it, but she'll stick to her mission, her tenacity and personal strength, is unbreakable. Wonderful, 10/10 character.
It's about 40 years old and Tony Jay is not here for a reunion 😢
The amazing thing about the voice actors is that most of them are silmilar to the anime characters as will …!!!
In my eyes, Dragon 2 is the best and a personal favorite of the franchise!!!
100% and 1000 times over
I was the voice of King Jhil, but I am NOT A MOVIE STAR! I was very honored to be cast as Nausicaa's pop. "Insects and humans cannot live in the same world , you know that."
That's amazing. You did your thing. What did it feel voicing a Miyazaki film? I'm actually quite jealous
@@joshuamoton9206 Well thank you. They brought me in for that because I was good at old English voices. They brought me in a few years later to be another king in Howl's Moving Castle.
@@gargantuaism wait. Who did you voice in Howl's moving Castle?
@@joshuamoton9206 Yes, I am that arrogant King that Howl disguises himself as.
@@gargantuaism ahhhhhhh. You also voiced a king. I see a pattern here.
this is the best movie. like the best movie ever
I am amazed at how the third movie was somehow even better.
was this from the blu ray?
Craziest deal how much history they spoken in and how all likelyness shot Mark Hamill into full voice casting
I wish httyd 3 had a documentary like this
I watched this in vhs back in 1992 when it was called "warriors of the wind" and had a whole different vouce dub.
I am so sorry you had to suffer through that version.
This franchise has my heart
Director: "Let me see your war face" Djimon: 26:50
This is a great film one of my favorite anime’s
A true man of culture (death god Totoro)
26:48 absolutely sent me, my mans poured his heart and soul into Drago's screams
1982-1994
1873
Music:Joe Hisaishi(1984)
I’ve always lived this movie and besides recognizing Patrick steward voice..I had NO IDEA Uma Thurman and Shia labouf and Mark Hamill was in this!!? I’m floored! 😮💨
If the live action is good then I won't be as upset as I am now about the casting. I mean Mason Thames seems like a good choice to play Hiccup, but Nico Parker as Astrid doesn't work because she doesn't even look like Astrid.
Were these the voice actors from the original English version, back in the 1980's?
shia labouf is not from the 80s (workforce) , even as a teen
Nope. And besides, Warriors of the Wind botched Nausicaa way off. This is why Miyazaki took Disney's offer on the redub because they wanted something more faithful and uncut. Why else did Toshio Suzuki send Weinstein a katana after hearing they were editing Princess Mononoke? Because they didn't want a Warriors of the Wind fiasco. And I watched Warriors of the Wind last night and it was God awful. So I prefer this dub. And no, these were new cast members.
え…完璧だよね、キャスティング!感動🥹✨♡
Actually, Nausicaa was Miyazaki's second movie. His first movie was Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro.
oh ffs plz. this is a lot more significant and canon.
@@lyrilljackson oh ffs plz. what's your problem? why so triggered?
@@krisskross6074 u need to be factual, bru.
I kiiiiinda agree. "Lupin III: the Castle of Cagliostro" was Hayao's first directing job, yes, but it was based of a previously existing anime, and thus he didn't have as much creative liberty as he would have later. Meanwhile, "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" was his first original film (yes, the manga exists, but he made that too so it counts) Personally, while I really like Lupin III CoC, and I consider it H.M.'s first directing job, I feel Nausica is his first movie, as in the first one he created from the ground up. Kinda like Tim Burton with "Peewee's Big Adventure" and "Beetlejuice". But hey, that's just my opinion :3
Timeless movie, great work!
What a cast! I had no idea!
Amazing cast
Let’s watch a English dub of this movie’s behind the scenes feature
loved this master peice since i first saw it 85/86 .

I prefer the dub. What an all star cast!
The fact Patrick Stewart did voice in the Disney dub, he was almost cast in several Disney Renaissance movies until Chicken Little
A true gem of a movie.
He is such a genius 💙🌳
What a special experience to follow the creation of my childhood and still favourite films

FRIENDSHIP IS THE STRONGEST BOND AAAAAAAAAH yes
"For you my dear, anything" might be one of my favourite lines in the series, maybe in movies ever
I watched that while I was in 9th grade.
this is one of the best movies ive seen
