Hernie
Великобритания
Добавлен 15 фев 2013
My name is Hernie (real name James Ahearne) and this channel is about me doing stuff, sometimes right and quite often wrong. From making, breaking and fixing things in my workshop. At work running my company, - No1 Services Ltd (concrete pumping and haulage www.number1.gg to find out more). To sea swimming, with anything in between.
I enjoy learning new things and the best way to learn is to give it a go, learn from the mistakes and go again. If you are not making mistakes then you are doing it wrong.

Boat Update Vlog

After a set back from a shoulder injury boat restoration has been slow, so today I made a start on the sanding - there is going to be a lot of sanding yet to come for me on this project :) This video was more of an update about the new truck build we are doing for my business - No1 Services Ltd - which is set to arrive in 2 or 3 weeks and will become priority. The good news is I am going to fil...
Shetland 535 Restoration - Episode 4-real

Today I cleaned all the cracks and holes around the boat and then filled all the holes using P40 fibreglass filler. I wanted to also fill the pocket holes in the foam and stick down the patch on the floor ready to be fibre glassed, BUT, I underestimated the time filling the small cracks and holes would take. Now we need to sand and fill one more time ready for painting and not forgetting fibre ...
Shetland 535 Restoration - Episode 4 **Fail**
Просмотров 6 тыс.2 года назад
The last 2 weeks have been very busy for me at work so I was excited to get this project moving forward. I felt it was important to get the boat under some kind of cover for a few weeks while I fill the small holes and fibreglass the floor and make the boat water proof again. So I brought a cheap gazebo on Amazon as its only a temporary cover. Well my friend Ad.z came to give my a hand. It didn...

This is the third episode of a series i am making, filming me a novice attempting to restore a shetland 535 hull in which i was given for free. However, i discovered the hull is holding water and in this video (episode 3) I drill some core holes to help release any moisture contained in the foam. Also I remove the trimmings including the screen, which I broke, and all the fixings ready for the ...

This is the second episode of a series i am making, filming me a novice attempting to restore a shetland 535 hull in which i was given for free. However, last week i discovered the hull is holding water and in this video (episode 2) i jack up the front of the boat with a bottle jack to allow any water in the hull to fall to the stern in hope of drying out the hull. I also cut a big rectangle ou...

Gorilla Man and Monkey Boy on a flipping mission!!
Did you give up 😔
sorry to be that guy 😐, but yes I had no choice. we ended up building 4 trucks from that yard with 2 more yet to go and having the room was 2nd to having the time. I hope the truck builds will lead. me to a nice boat 🤞
Any progress with the Shetland or is it a 2025 project.
GLORY TO GOD!
Wow great idea, gonna attempt to make these tomorrow, how many boards did u use in total?
Amazing, good luck! Depending on the length board but you need 5m per ramp, pretty sure I used 4x 3m boards this gave me a little spare. I still use mine now my only regret is I should have used more robust screws like decking screws which ,ay help you out! :)
use that tarp to make a shelter to prevent rain from getting in, also place a fan in the hull to help with drying
Is the boat project still going or what ? . Can't wait to see her done.
I've just bought myself a 19ft carcass of a boat in worse condition than this, very excited along with high anxiety and trepidation then I go back to joy once again. I'm late watching this but I've got everything crossed for you 🤞
so what happened with the boat
@@chris-c2c4k time and yard space meant she came to an abrupt end :(
Nice bro 🤜🤛👍👍
Nice bro😎😎👍
How the HELL did you get someone to give you a boat???? I'm autistic, which means I dont work and couldn't afford a boat to save my skin, but NEED a project and want to get out on the water (I live in Brisbane, Australia, with it's amazing bay and an hour's drive north of the INCREDIBLE Gold Coast Broadwater, a boatie's mecca) but, for the life of me, no one wants to give me a boat. I've got no friends to have someone just give me one, I have a social disability, but holy hell, the art of charity is long long dead.
It was a lucky Facebook find :) Where I live in Guernsey there are a few of these older boats lying around that nobody is going to use them again and are often put on local Facebook boating or sale groups. Maybe a fishing or boat group from your area may have something up for grabs. Sadly you are right it is much harder to get things like this but hopefully luck will come your way and a little project like this will be a great hobby. thanks for watching :)
Burn it all
Awesome vid dude. Subscribed. The old editing takes a while eh!
Hernie when we doing a collaboration?? 😂
When shes floatin we can go boatin 🤣🤣 🛥️
If you need a hand fitting the motor or other bit mate let me know I’ll give you a hand if I’m available which I normally am lol 😂
Mate that's awesome 👏 will let you know 🙌
Come on just about to watch
Yes mate tippers get on it
Worth the waiting 😅💪🛥️
It's nice to see a proper bloke doing it with an hammer a broom and man power, the Yanks would have have their $600.00 shop vac on it a $750.00 pressure washer and then blown it dry with their $750.00 compressor .... POUFES
Take you never heard of a jett washer you use one before you start any work
hows the boat coming on?
Are you going to do some work on the boat this summer?
Great vid and work! Music was Great too! Thanks!
awesome thanks :)
Any update? Just bought a wreck in Greece and watched your videos then it all ended 😂
back to working on it this week so hope to have her in the water very soon. Update coming soon :)
Just watched your 535 series again. Are you doing any more vids on her? I’m looking at buying my first boat a 535 and like yourself it’s going to be a steep learning curve
Great videos!
Nice job !!!
You and your mates plus dad have made a cracking job of that project sir. Congrats on that. Looking forward perhaps for continuation of the boat project again now. Many thanks.
Thanks mate it has been a challenge for us but well happy with the result :) Time to get working on the boat!!
Watching on my lunch break love it
Awesomeness!! I am back working on the boat now mate soon captain HernDawg on the high seas. well high at least haha
Bought a Shetland a couple of years ago have to get started on my refurb .towed it ten miles got it to the yard and the trailer snapped on the axle one god thing it came with a fish finder which bleeped when I passed the local chippy lol
haha awesome!! Hopefully have this one in the water in a few months. but sometimes I am a bit too ambitious for my own good :)
Love it! I need something like this for my driveway. Too steep (downwards) to get my car on. It bottoms out and scrapes halfway down the car, on the exhaust centre pipes.
Awesome! I still use these ramps not just for the van be a 15ton truck too. Very handy :)
is this jersey , guernsey or alderny
Guernsey :)
Like a new’un !
It's most likely closed cell foam, it shouldn't hold any water other than being slightly damp, if it had open cell foam in it, it would soak water up like a sponge.
Now that is dedication 👍🫶
Another very good blog but even though your outside, your breathing a lot of fiberglass there which needs force 8 mask with P3 filters
Cable tie the tops, cable tie the right legs too fince and tent screw pegs to all left legs. Great vlogs though watching this space...
Mate she coming on yann be happy with that one when she done, what she called? Good job on the vid too mate
Looking good mate. Lot of effort going into this project but I’m sure it will bring rewards aplenty . Thanks for sharing.
Really pleased with the progress, starting to see it coming together again now which is nice to see!!
It's coming along nicely now mate good job down there boys
been making good progress this week too, maybe an axle moved for the next episode :)
You and the team are making a cracking job of this Hernie. Yer dad is not going to be happy with you ; jet washing after his brill paint job! Thanks for sharing !
yes he was not best pleased 😬😆 making great progress this week, bagging and tagging everything ready for the big axle move :)
Amazing 💯 work 👏
I need job sir
Hell of a lot of work done and ahead ! But thanks for sharing mate.
Thanks mate, tough going at the moment but luckily a great team pitching in and making progress!😀
Oi oi Where's episode 3?
Oi Oi! Saveloy! Editing now hopefully tomorrow it will be up :)
Im also waiting for restoration episode 5 😊💪
I don't know the situation in Guernsey but here in Aussie you need a powerboat license for anything with a motor fitted. Also I imagine you'll need to register it. Remember if you're not making mistakes you're not learning anything. Cheers Eric
Love that, if you're not making mistakes your not learning!!! Their are no laws to having licence for a pleasure motor boat, which is odd as our sea's are know for aggressive currents and up to 10m high/low tides. However they do promote it and offer some cool 2 day courses for local sea's (and more of course) and it is definitely the first mission when the season starts. I don't want to be that guy :)
get yourself a better face mask, that dust is a real killer.
your 100% right, I need to get a proper set up as we do a lot of sanding etc and its pretty stupid of me not to have protection. 👍👍
Cheers mate I enjoyed that . Will these mods you are doing satisfy the MOT plating requirements or are they more relaxed over your way? Looking forward to your next episode! Thank you for sharing.
Awesome thanks for watching :) It's a strange one over here as we do not have MOT (although their own version is apparently coming in 2023 but they have not given much info accept it will be custom for Guernsey roads. They do spot check for safety but are more concerned with things being worn and miss used like exhausts, brakes etc. It is also the only way it can be done here or other wise these restrictions would mean no HGV truck could carry any payload. Be interesting to see their plans but they seem very secretive which I hope doesn't mean they give a list the day before it is a law and we are all off the road waiting for parts, but that's politics for you ha!
That Jeff bloke looks dodgy to me!
haha he is very dodgy!!
You don’t go for the easy options do you . How the hell do you sleep at night with a daunting project like that facing you in the light of day! Amazing! Good luck mate I’ll be watching this through for sure. Many thanks for sharing.
haha! This is why I have no hair left :) Awesome, thanks, I am looking forward to seeing her complete soon...I hope!!
Hi its me beau good job
i just did the fome thing. its not the foam its the stringers you need to chek out. my stringers turn to mud and the foam was dam
cheers for the heads up. I will check them!
