Have you read The Hobbit?
I liked Gerald's game movie adaptation more😅
The Hobbit is the ultimate comfort reads for me, love The Lord of The Rings too. Recommend them to everyone with any interest in fantasy. Also recommend The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan books and Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson if people like LoTR they’ll probably like those too
Love that you’re enjoying TLoTR. Found your channel looking for a Stephen King book for my cousins birthday then ended up following awhile learning about horror books, now love reading King too and read more horror than fantasy. Thank you for that.
I suggest you rewatch your own video and count how many times you say the word "weird". It's a lot. If you were alive in Tolkien's day you'd be using the word "queer" instead. That was all it meant. It's only relatively recently -- in my own lifetime in fact - that queer has taken on the meanings you're familiar with now. JRRT has a style which is old fashioned by today's standards; but it's a writing style I enjoy very much. It's great you're liking this read. LOTR and the Hobbit are books I've returned to time after time for more than fifty years. The movies are great but they can't beat the word of Tolkien in my opinion. I envy you reading this for the first time.
These books are worth a read, then another and another. I have read the books 4 times over the years, though it took Tolkien a lot more time to write them, create the Elvish language and the lore, even going as far to create a in-depth history of Middle Earth. If you read the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones books you will see a lot of Tolkien inspired themes in them, though the authors will say "no" it is all my work, yeah right. The films could not include everything in the books otherwise you would have had 8 films.
as a kid, like 9-10 years old, I discovered that Koontz had many fake "pen-names" he wrote under. So it felt like a kind of detective search for me to try and find all of them. Leigh Nichols, K R Dwyer, Owen West, Brian Coffey, etc. I eventually collected all of them over many years! It was a fun hunt. But eventually those books all cost me IDK about 4-5 thousand dollars altogether. His really rare stuff is VERY expensive, especially the Gothic paperbacks written as Deanna Dwyer, and his supposed porn titles which are unverified if they are his but seem likely to be, he just won't admit it LOL. Also his rare sci-fi from late 60s to 70s is not bad. 'Demon Seed' and 'Invasion' [published as being by 'Aaron Wolfe'-who people incorrectly thought was Stephen King for a long time because that book takes place in upper Maine!] aren't bad at all. 'A Werewolf among Us' is also a very strange mix of genres. 'The Long Sleep' written under 'John Hill' is also very trippy, feels like it was written while on acid or something. The only book of his I really disliked is 'Strike Deep' written under the name 'Anthony North'.
The regulators is actually by far my favorite, it’s cozy yet anxiety provoking and I love the letters and maps that are in the book, it makes it so that I feel like there’s a movie playing in my head while I watch it. I’ve read desperation as well and I liked it too but I LOVE the regulators, I’ve read it twice and I plan on reading it again soon. Insomnia I’ve also read twice and that’s my second favorite but I’m biased because I have insomnia so it’s nice to read at 3am when I can’t sleep
I've read The Hobbit as well as The Fellowship of the Ring. The Hobbit I thoroughly enjoyed. However, The Fellowship I had a few issues with and gave three stars. It was very slow in the first half and took a long time for the book to pick up. I still plan on finishing the series. Maybe even this year 🤔
I read the first two books about 20 years ago and I always thought they weren't very reader-friendly (says a lot about my young reader naivety, lol). However, I love the movies and have watched them several times. I'm going to attempt to read the whole trilogy again since I've come a long way as a reader and can appreciate Tolkien's masterpiece!
I really want to read the series but I must admit I am intimidated.
Dont be.
70 books!! That's awesome!
Hello! This year my goals are: -read 50 books -practice guitar 5 days a week -spend less time on a screen -work on my novel -be more on top of school and studying I hope you enjoy prizoner of Azkaban, I am an absolute HP nerd and it’s my favourite book. I read IT last year and from the enjoyment i found in that I now find I have 7 Stephen king books in my physical tbr, so looking forward to reading those! Happy new year :)
Great List! I DNF Lisey's story because we went through intense trauma, but plan on picking it up again in 2025. Boy's life and Swan Song are in my top ten books of all time. I am yet to find a McCammon book that reaches those heights, but still searching. If you love horror with heart, coming of age stories then I would highly recommend Chad Lutzke! Hope you have a wonderful 2025! 📚
Great Goals! My main two reading goals this year is: 1.) Read all my physical books that I own 2.) Finish the series I have started
I hope you can meet them, good luck!
Happy New Year🍾🥂
Happy new year!
Last year, I made it to 43 books. This year, my big goal is 50, but I'd be happy with 45.
That’s an awesome goal, good luck!
Great goals, Zach! Question, what percentage of books do you read read vs audiobooks? I never used to listen to audiobooks, but now I'd say I'm at 50% for both listening and reading.
I’m pretty much 100% audiobook with the physical book together.
My only goal is to read 50 books this year because last year was a disaster I only read 8 books😬
Reading is reading and that’s still great!
hey zach!😊
Hi, thanks for watching!
Happy New Year, Zack, Danielle, and Maverick. Hope 2025 brings you many good reads!
I haven’t yet read The Queen, but Little Heaven is FAR better than the Troop and the Deep. Just a more traditional format where you actually care about the characters. Pick it back up
And thank you for your book reviews
Anything by Stephen King is unique, Even if it's not good it is still good. Thanks Zack I will check it out. By the way I love your t-shirts where do you find your t-shirts?
For January, I will absolutely read the following: 'Skeleton Crew' 'Desperation' 'Misery' 'Christine' And maybe the following: 'The Regulators' 'Blaze' That's my month planned out.
Lots of King, looks like a good list!
Happy New Year!
Thanks, you too!
Great January tbr. I still have yet to finish the lord of the rings. I read the first book and just never got to the other two. Mainly because the Fellowship is kind of a slog to get through. I also love Dreamcatcher. It's easily in my top twenty favorite king books.
Happy new year zack!
Happy New Year to you too!
I DNFed Dreamcatcher because of the R word. I am a disabled person and I had no time or patience for it, even from Stephen King. It’s possible I might give it another try after I have read all of the other SK books, and maybe before The Dark Tower.
I thought The Queen was great! It's a fast-paced very unique story with a bit of body horror. Hope you like it!
Good to hear, I’m really looking forward to it!
Love your reviews. Thank you. // If looking for work oportunities, move to northern Utan. Great place to work and live. Several colleges available. Ogden, Logan, and in the middle, Brigam City, where I live, retired.
While I am sure that the Amityville horror story is most likely a fantastic and fun read, as most people had always suspected, it is not based on a true story, as the author claims. One of the main perpetrators of this fraudulent story has since come forward publicly and admitted that the whole thing was a scam just to be able to sell a movie script. There were in fact brutal murders that took place in the home, and--because of that--a family was able to purchase this beautiful property for an incredibly low price. However, they were not able to sell it after that, because too many people were creeped out that murders took place in the home. So, to recoup their costs for not being able to put it on the market, and to make a tremendous profit and sell it for a movie script, they hired a writer and got several people to LIE about these horrible events that supposedly took place in the home. It's all nonsense. Ownership of the home has changed hands 10 times since these supposedly true incidences, and NONE of these 10 new owners had ever reported a single odd incident since. Still, Zack is a wonderful book reviewer (one of the best, in my humble opinion) and you can take his word for it that it's a great read. Enjoy the book! Have fun reading it. Just know that it is NOT based on any sort of facts whatsoever.
I absolutley love seeing Boy's Life on here. It was one of my favorites from last year, and probably in my top 20 of all time. His masterclass, of creating down to earth fiction, but a gripping out of the ordinary plot is a perfect mix.
I hear a lot of good about carrion comfort by Simmons.
McCammon has been hit or miss for me but my favorite is Ushers Passing. It doesn't get much love and i know a lot of ppl don't like it but it's my personal fav! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas, Zack and Danielle! “Boy’s Life” has been in my Kindle for years 😫 and I just put “Summer of Night” in a bookstore online basket 👊🏻! My top read this year (maybe 🤷🏻) is King’s “The Gunslinger.”
A Boy's Life is one of my all-time favorite books! I also love McCammon's Matthew Corbett historical fiction series. The 10th book just recently came out.
Oh that's intriguing, thanks for letting me. know. I've been told the book Mine by him too so hopefully I can try a few out by him this year.
Gelukkig nieuwjaar en veel lees plezier in 2025 Groetjes uit België
I will recommend the book The Butterfly Garden if you haven't read it. I gave it 4 stars. I've missed your vlogmas posts these past few days. Hope everyone gets to feeling better. Merry Christmas to my favorite bookish family.
I think that's a book we own so I'll have to try and read it this year. We are slowly starting to feel better, Danielle still has a little congestion but we're on the way up. Merry Christmas to you too!
Have not seen the King book, can't wait to read it
hopefully you can get it and enjoy it!
I agree with all of these except Lisey's Story which just did not work for me. I might give it another try. I hope you, Danielle, and Maverick have a very Merry Christmas! 🎁🎄
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too!
Check out Speaks the Nightbird by McCammon
Great info, thank you 😊
Great ranking ❤ absolutely liked it! I am starting to dive into the world of Stephen King 😅 will start with THE SHINING, IT, PET SEMATARY and Misery Thanks buddy!
Man my shoulder got sore by seeing you shrug so much😅
Just finished this 12/11/24. It is my second favorite king novel after ‘IT’. Completely took me by surprise. Dont bother watching the tv series with james franco, just read the book!
What do you mean when you say he ripped off the 3 dark tower books?
