Lovely stuff, Fred. I don’t know why the 10” format isn’t more popular. Those box sets are beautiful. I have the Thundercat box. It was one of my favourite albums of the year when it came out but I listened to it again recently and found it quite hard work. Tastes change, I guess.

I agree about Thundercat and had the same feeling at previous live shows: it can be a bit “much”. However, I saw him live in March and it was a very good show. Probably the best of all the times I’ve seen him. Wonder how the next album will sound. Are you familiar with that Innerzone Orchestra album? Big tip!! It features a cover of ‘People Make The World Go Round’.

10” are frustrating - pick a lane: 7” or 12”! 😂 Saying that, I do have a select few 10” albums but no box sets. Thundercat is an acquired taste. Saw him in concert and enjoyed that Michael McDonald track even without him there to sign. Great idea for a video Fred ✌🏻

Thanks for watching, Chance!! But all credit goes to @vinylrichie007 for the idea!! I categorised Thundercat as “alternative r&b” but he has so much more up his sleeve: prog, jazz-rock, Hip-hop,… I saw him live too last March (even made a video about it) and it was the best show I’ve seen of him. Incredible musician!

OMG Frederik. I have literally been cataloging records all day long. It's 2:39 am and I should have gone to sleep hours ago, but I really wanted to basically get through cataloging all the records I could this weekend so as to have them handy to listen to them all next week. I set my sights and getting through your video today (along with 5 others) which includes listening to their Japan Vinyl Tag Video (likely for a 2nd time) and then pausing after every selections, going to find the track of full album on RUclips that the person has put forth for the category, maybe find out what the years is or something other detail while I listen to the first 1 song or so, logging it into a spreadsheet to work from as well as a doc that will help me promote it later, and then going back back the the VC members video, pressing play again and repeat. I did this 100 times today and the listening I have ahead of me is daunting but more than daunting, far more, it's exciting to think of all I have to discover and learn and forge some sorta bond with people by way intentionally taking in the music the love. I suspect people thing I'm always a bit over-the-top or something but for me, I'm just getting off so hard on music. I mention all this because a list like your is not one I am going to get from any magazine, from any radio station, from any podcast. It really couldn't be more highly curated if one tried and if you are a music lover like I know you and me are (though my tastes are FAR less sophisticated than yours) this is EXACTLY what we live for. This list is AH-MAY-ZING! I can not WAIT to sink my claws into this thing. So much supremely cool choice, MAN! Between you and me, you may have just won the entire tag, and I haven't even listened to the records yet. But jeez, the aficionado in somebody has never been more pronounced. You're a proper musicologist and Im just beside myself with thanks that you chose to put so much careful thought and consideration into this. Thank you Frederik. So glad to be more connected now, and to forge an every stronger bond in the coming months and years. Of course I will circle back with more to say once I listen to all, and I hope it goes without saying, but if you get back to Japan anytime soon, know you have a friend here eager to meet! Will report back here soon. Thanks again, pal. Best from Tokyo - Brian

Alice Russell is a fantastic soul singer from the UK and Quantic a brilliant producer. Together with his Combo Bárbaro they made the beautiful lp 'Look Around The Corner' in 2012 (with the singel "I'd Cry"). I think I saw a copy of Polygon Window in a store, used copy, but I had no idea what it was, so I passed on it. It wasn't that expensive, either. I have Black Dog Productions "Bytes", picked it up recently because I already had "Spanners" by The Black Dog. I have Plaid as well. Get rid the that plastic sleeve! It will off-gas and ruin the vinyl. These were all recent acquisitions, within the last 6 months. I started listening to electronic in the 70s with Tangerine Dream, but I missed a lot of the acid house that developed in the late 80s and early 90s - though I've been recently adding it. Just a couple weeks ago I picked up that Fuse release. I'll have to seek out Plastic Man (is that what you said?).

@@spectrum_archives No, Wax Trax/TVT. I'm just basing this on a flyer included in the CD that advertised the A.I. series, it included them. And I think the hype sticker on the Kenny Larkin album, IIRC. Maybe Warp intended to include them in the series, but then decided to make them their own thing, but Wax Trax kept to the original marketing? Who knows

Black Dog, Autechre and B12 were some of the most important releases that have come around in my lifetime. I really wonder how i would have discovered avant-garde electronic music without them. Before these releases, electronic music meant the techno and house sounds that i heard from Detroit, Chicago and London. Warp helped me get...warped. Lol. It was difficult back then for me - i had very few friends that shared my passion for electronic music. Connecting the dots from suburban detroit forced me to find those "brave new waves" that were happening around the globe. Great video. Thanks for sharing your path to the music. Cheers! Shawn

Ordered months ago . But looks like I'll be reordering from somewhere else, being let down. Plus it's not worth £100. I already have all the albums and CDs from the j jazz lists

Well, it started out as a kickstarter, so it was sold/announced before being made. Hence the wait, but well worth it in my opinion. Similar to the books Soul Jazz Records have released in the past on Bossa Nova, Cuban Music and Spiritual Jazz (Freedom, Rhythm & Sound). Cool to have if you like graphic design and record sleeve art.

Your Parliament record is on my want list.. Somehow I have missed finding a good copy, might as well get a repress eventually. You have refined taste in quality records and artists, good to see all of these records that I know little about ! I buy from Jackpot and Drastic Plastic, although.. Not so much, lately Cheers from Nevada 🙏

Thanks for you reaction and sorry for my late reply. Indeed, all those early Parliament / Funkadelic records are hard to find, especially over here in Europe.

In the mid-70s, my cousins boyfriend Robert from Detroit managed Funkadelic, Parlament, and Rare Earth. I met him in Las Vegas , a really nice guy, and he was in love with my cousin ! ( I never got any records out of him, though ) LoL !! 👍

Hello Paul @XjunkieNL ! Yes there’s cool stuff happening on the Belgian Jazz front. I need to do a video about that. Ottla’s album is really good and I will definitely check out the new one from De Beren Gieren. If you like Jazz with an African twist, Black Flower is the go-to band.

Hi Neighbor :) Just discovered your new channel. Cool! Been ages I've been looking for an original Red Clay, maybe I should jump the MOV release. All the best. /Paul

Howdy Neighbour! 😎 Thanks for watching. Indeed, an OG Red Clay is almost impossible to find (or afford) and MOV have really upped the quality of their reissues in the past couple of years.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Arnaldo! I try to show a record store in every video, like I did on record store day or my March vinyl pickups. Think it's fun and the store owners really appreciate it.

Have you ever heard McCoy Tyner’s live album ‘Atlantis’? The 18 minute opening track ‘Atlantis’ is about as good as it gets, it’s like a funky ‘A Love Supreme’
