This series of videos discusses My breast cancer journey. In 2020 my routine mammogram showed multiple micro calcifications in my left breast. A biopsy showed that I had Ductal Cell In Situ (DCIS)breast cancer in my left breast and I elected to get a left breast mastectomy. My lymph nodes were clear.
The pathology report after my mastectomy showed my hormone response as ER-/PR-/HER2+. The recommendation was for 12 weekly treatments of chemo with Taxol + Herceptin then just the Herceptin every 3 weeks to conclude a year. This series of videos discuses the journey of treatment, nutrition, hair loss, social media, and what did I take in my chemo bag.

Food matters and what you eat can affect how you feel. I talk about how paying attention to what I was eating helped me feel better through treatment.
Drinking water really helps during chemo therapy treatments

Drinking 80 ounces of water daily will help you feel better during your chemo therapy treatment weeks. Also, it helps to swim or soak in a bathtub.
Im on round 7 of 12. Lost my hair, little tingle toes but thats it! The fear and panic i got 2 days before was the worst. I use lime juice 50/50 with orange juice to settle my stomach.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Sending Aloha & prayers from Washington State 🌺
I’m about to start this same round in the am at 9 its4 am I can’t sleep for worrying about the side effects and reactions. I had learned what the red devil would do so I was used to it now to learn this one . I’m glad I found this video at the right thank you !
Thank you Tracy for leaving a comment and I hope that the side effects are minimal for you. Please remember to drink the water even if you are not a water drinker. It will help you a lot! My doctor encouraged me to figure out a way that I can drink the water instead of saying that I can’t. So I figured out a way and it made a huge difference for me. Nutrition matters too…eat protein in each meal. I wish you well on your journey.
I'm about to start my journey this week for the same treatment. Thank you for your information. It helped me alot especially with the anxiety about not knowing how my system will tolerate this.
Your videos are awesome for those of us who've recently received the news about receiving HER2+ adjuvant therapy. Thank you!
Hi Lisa. I'm the admin for a cancer group you joined on Facebook. Thank you for posting this. Very informative.
Hi Lisa! Once again, I’m so glad you made a video to explain all of this. Have you had any side effects on the Herceptin? I’m supposed to get this as well and I’ve got concerns about how it affects the heart.
I have had 3 heart ultrasound (echos) exams and so far no problems detected. Since I have been on Herceptin that I had a couple of minor incidents where I felt some heart flutters that worried me but I have a home blood pressure/pulse monitor that also detect heart flutters so when I felt the heart flutters that I took my blood pressure multiple times and everything was normal. The flutters lasted a few minutes and then went away. I talked to my doctor about it and she asked me a few questions about if I also experienced shortness of breath or leg swelling (which I have not) so she said not to worry but it it happened more often then to let her know.nSo far I have not. So far so good. I was glad to have that blood pressure monitor. I do have an older Apple Watch that I thought about wearing because I know that they have the ability to detect some heart issues but I can’t get my Apple Watch to work. I have been considering getting a newer version so that maybe it would alert me if something was starting to be an issue. I hope this helps.
@@lisamccullar-pumphrey4548 Thanks for the response! I’ve got a family history of heart disease and I’ve been pretty worried about Herceptin because of this. But it’s nice to hear that you’re monitored closely for any problems.
I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you made this video. This is the treatment I’ll likely be receiving for triple positive breast cancer. I’m praying it is the plan I’ll have because it seems more tolerable and gentle.
Thank you for your comment. If it turns out that you are on the same chemo treatment plan of Taxol + Herceptin then I encourage you to remember nutrition matters and so does drinking lots of water. Even though I am not a water drinker that I was able to figure out a way to drink about 80 ounces of water a day and all of that helped me not feel terrible and I keep up my normal life. I wish you well.
@@lisamccullar-pumphrey4548 I’ve been preparing with exercise and upping my water intake a lot. Nutrition is so important; I agree. I was curious what book you referred to?
@@2pieceabiscuit417 I found a book on Amazon called The cancer diet cookbook by Dionne Detraz., RDN. I liked it because the first section explains what foods to avoid and what foods to focus on. Then there is a reference to her recipes for different symptoms. For example, recipes that target fatigue. The recipes are 30-minute recipes and one pot meals. I must admit that some of the ingredients listed were not ingredients I was used to eating, like almond butter, or flaxseed or ground turmeric. However, I thought that this oncology nurse might know a thing or two about nutritional food for people who are going through chemo treatment and I decided to go buy those ingredients and just try out the recipes. I prepared the recipes as directed without changes and To my surprise I did like the recipes. They really made me feel better, or at least not terrible.
