Very helpful series. Thank you for sharing.
Did you need a battery to excite the Dynamo ?
good video i have the same wolseley but could never find the arts list for it.
you still alive?
I’ve yet to see an oil seal fitted in this position? I’ve ordered one and a carrier for my pump,I assumed it was fitted internally 🤔
Hi, my Jap is the same as your, would you know where I can buy parts for this engine, cheers.
Hi, where would you recommend buying spare parts from. I have one identical to your Jap motor and need to replace a few parts, cheers george.
I had one of these from new in 1961. I was 17 at the time. Great memories. A move up from a Vesper at aged16. £40 second hand. Then at 18 onto an brand new Ariel Golden Arrow Super Sports with full faring in white. £250 then. Equal to £5,675.47 today.
you still around?
What a shame to let it get like that.
Is there the rest of this series can’t find them
How do you prime a domestic Lister water pump??? Help
Have a look at the secam 819 line TV sets, they were truly amazing.
Channel 1 was BBC and channel 9 was ITV.
Lovely pump, I've got an argosy but for the life of me can't get it to pump, any tips? How do you go about priming yours?
Channel 9, ITA London from the 'Croydon' transmitter.
Wow, nice to see the old HMV 1910. I now have this very set in my collection some 12 years on.
When I was a kid in the early sixties, we had one of these tv's. It was slightly different look, as far as the finish was concerned; didn't have the cloth over the speaker or the mock cloth effect around the screen, but the two buttons, rotating volume and brightness and the channel indicator were exactly the same. I'll always remember that whirring, clunky sound, when you changed channels. I love that. I wish I could get one, now. It only had two channels, and at the time I could never figure out why ItV was channel 9. 1 and 9, that's all you could get.
Great to see the Atco run I’ve got a Atco also not quite up to your standard but a good project it’s amazing that yours runs so well Thanks once again from New Zealand.
I remember, we had one of these sets when I was a kid. The on/off button had broken, so was wedged in with a piece of folded paper. I loved hearing the sound, when you changed channels, and like this one, only used channel 1 for BBC1 and channel 9 for ITV. Was in the days before we could afford an outdoor antenna, so would spend time moving around the room with a long piece of wire trying to find a position for the best picture without ghosting. I've been trying to find one on youtube for some time, now, as I wasn't sure what make and model it was. Ours had a grey/blue and black patterned, laminated front to it, so wasn't exactly the same as the one in this video. But the channel display, buttons and knobs are identical.
Where is it now ? its been off the road since 2011 :(
That runs well 👍👍
Hiya FiftiesCruiser - Thanks for making this video - I'm currently restoring a little JAP 2A and this video has been a big help - I've bought the JAP Engine Book you recommend and that has helped no end as well. I am having a bugger of a time trying to time the Magneto - and it sounds like you had a tough time too - any tips you can give me on how you got it done in the end. I mean - it sounds simple - go to TDC - back it off 3/16 of an inch and rotate the stator plate until the points are just starting to open. But I just can't seem to get it right - the stator plate securing nuts seem to be in a significantly different position every time I try and time it - which obviously isn't right. Sometimes I am convinced I've got it right, but the stator plate wont even rotate far enough to allow the points to even start opening - which again - obviously isn't right. And one more thing - how did you set your carby when you first got it going after your restoration? Fast Screw? Idle Screw? Air/Mixture Screw? What turns out did you start with to at least get the engine going before you fine tuned it? Any tips you wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks heaps. Polybus.
cool, never seen a motorized tuner before, reminds me of the automatic radios from saba
I wonder if this is a remote control TV for which the remote was lost. Older remote control sets had motorized tuners. The owner would flip switches, pins or slides to show which channels were available or favorites, pressing the remote would turn to the channels that were in use, skipping vacant channels. (In the USA, this system was made obsolete by the all-channel rule, mandating all sets sold would be able to see any station in range).
Wonder what mower its out of.
Nooo, never cut the bakalite caps, there so hard to find, atleast cut a broken one.
my villiers mk12 is also working like this, is this normal, is that thud and smoke normal??
Loved it, I know that road well, but the camera was on crank......
Why you cant crank it continuosly
Reminds me of a (presumably later) D-E-R set that had one-button-opperated motorised channel switching between two VHF channels (for BBC1 and ITA) and UHF (for BBC2). There were illuminated labels for BBC1, ITA and UHF. The two VHF channels were determined by the placement of pins in the motorised disc at the rear. Different UHF channels (as soon as there was more than just BBC2 to choose from) were selected via four pre-tuned (by screwdriver) push-buttons. From memory, I think the motorised channel switching made a similar sound to that of this set.
David Austin Sounds like the set my parents rented in the early 70's. The single VHF tuner was uppermost and the UHF one in the middle. I recall the motorised tuner was much louder than the PYE in the video.19" screen. I'd love to see one again. Cheers.
I need some help with my mower, same as yours. Where are you based?
Excellent result after your hard work, great to see how the internal parts are revealed, the Lister D is normally just a block with flywheel attached.
rustymotor Thank you.
Brilliant result.
martin3304 Thank you.
Good project, are you going to drive it with another engine?
martin3304 Thank you. possibly.
its 8 strocking. a bit. nice job tho
Was remote control an option on these sets? We had a Zenith Space Command set when I was a kid, it had tuning almost like that, but you could activate it with the button on the front panel or the clicker. You had to bring it into the shop if a new channel came on the air.
where does the braided earth lead on the crankcase attach to the stator plate, mine is broken and not attached in any way, thanks in advance.
We have 2 of these engines. You must always fill the water hopper to the top and so cover the tube inside. This way the engine will cool properly as it relies on the thermosiphon principle.
Ive just got a Villiers engined cement mixer. Its from 1962. Other than that Ive no idea what it is possibly a 12/2? I only got it yesterday so not even tested yet! My question is do I need to add lead additive to the fuel or will un-leaded be ok?
I personally don't but an additive might be an idea.
Good stuff glad your back on with saving these engines.
Thank you very much.
Hi. great series of videos Just rebuilding one myself They were a great help Just wondering did you pre-soak the new plunger washers in oil before fitting and greasing the barrel
Nice engine, I have one myself. When they are warm you can start them by hand.
Very nice setup
Very nice, well done :)
Great little pump , nice work ,just finished my restoration of a h1 , happy pumping!
Good stuff and a excellent result.
martin3304 Thank you.
That one goes quite well, any idea what it drove, not seen one with a pulley flywheel quite like that.
Thank you. It was on a metal Aerograph trolley.
Love your piller drill, proper job, Thanks for the the update.
Thank you.
Hi Don t know if you have sent off your fly wheel, but if file down what is sticking out of the key, then using a 5 pound copper hammer, you can get the crank shaft through, with out braking the fly wheel. I will upload a video on it when I get round to editing. Cheer Harry
Harry, Cheers, I did try using molegrips on the key and hitting a wedge between the grips and flywheel with protection.
Nice! those Wolseley's are great! i am wondering what brand of paint did you use to get that green it looks good!
Thanks. It's an outdoor gloss Crown paint from one of their swatches then darkened by the supplier, Sorry I don't have the colour of code.
