I really appreciate this advice! I knew going into this that python would be a bit slow, I honestly chose it because python is the language we are using in my university courses right now. I had not considered the dependency on external libraries and tools, that’s a really good point and definitely something I’ll try to avoid. Thanks again for the great advice! ❤

@@EDDlES A lot of people will tell you it's ridiculous to do something from scratch - and I used to believe those people. But it's actually a lot simpler than it seems, with the right guidance. Casey Muratori is that - to me at least. He simplifies all the fundamentals and with four decades of experience and a great head on his shoulder, he's very good at explaining how to avoid many of the common traps. External dependencies also often leads to integration difficulties once you need to couple more tightly, and many dependencies are black boxes so you'll be spending much of your time debugging those rather than learning how to do it yourself. One of the major reasons for that is that dependencies are biased and context-agnostic, which best-case means they compromised in order to work in all kinds of cases. But the most simple and efficient solution is always context-aware to the project. So you can imagine that using long dependency chains will make lots of compromises even in the best case. Lastly, the game engine industry has so many problems that apply to other software industries, only much harder. So when you can do it that way, you'll be powerful enough to outcompete a lot of everyday solutions. Once you learn just how much work can be done with 3 billion cycles (single core clocks per second) using SIMD, ILP and very high L1 cache hit rate, you'll realize just how sluggish the vast majority of software is today. Much like how the iPhone undercut the sluggish Windows Mobile that had way more features, largely due to how responsive it was. Understanding true software fundamentals is a dying breed because we're taught SOLID dogma instead. And I believe it's an industry ripe for disruption - given that just a small subset of developers learn those fundamentals. There's a standing lie that procedural is less productive, but that's only true so long as you're not being smart about it. Because the applications are fundamentally simpler, thus easier to reason about and manage. It's why 20 ish developers can build entire AAA games almost from scratch in a few years, and probably why 30k developers can barely manage a popular international website. I think C is a great starting point to understanding the fundamentals. But it's a legacy language with some outdated concepts (like null-terminated strings), but I have high hopes for Odin-lang, Jai-lang and similar fresh alternatives to C that doesn't ignore the fundamentals - unlike most new languages.
