Don't forget Miss Etta James & Irma Thomas from the Big Easy , and dare I say the Divine Miss M ,Judy Garland , Liza , Patsy Kline , Barbara Joan , Nancy Wilson Billie Holiday , and Ertha Kitt & Sarah Vaughn. Actually if I go back just a tad longer we could add Sophie Tucker & Mahalia Jackson but many are going who are they already . This I can say , they were Ladies of Diva Stature , and of all different styles & strengths to boot ! I'm not saying Dinah Shore & Doris Day, Keely Smith , Ethel Merman and Kay Starr were not talented , they just weren't Cult Status , except Dinah Shore. A story in my family swears the big throwing a Kiss Goodnite at the end of the Show was dedicated to my Grandfather ,my Dad's Father. It came from a letter he wrote in his 80's or 90's , asking Dinah to throw Grandpa a Kiss at the end of the show, which she started doing when she came on the following weeks. He latter wrote & explained to make her kiss a special kiss by turning back , kissing her hand and throwing the kiss at the Camera and it became her signature closing on all her Shows & appearances when saying Good-Bye or Good-nite to audiences.......You also need to realize these Ladies were at a time when Live performance was so much more in demand , then how well competitive in our techno driven world has become more difficult to decide what to do and who to see , not a cheap deal like when I grew up, then in this era in Time!
