Mull Of Kintyre - Harmonica, Scottish
So sorry if I'm intruding on you my friend!!!..... Everything you are playing is lovely!!!.... however I am just curious.... As a Guitarist, I've regularly played within the 'Folk' scene, " Da Slockit Light"... For years, many years ago... Usually with myself on the Guitar, and a lady friend on Violin. There are countless versions, but the one I like now on youtube is "Da Slockit Light", and select the one showing the man on the violin & the woman playing the Cello .... It's been an absolute mainstay for me, for many Years!! I 'thought' it may be something you may attempt John?? (The basics are easier than you think!).... The word 'Slockit' means 'Diminishing/extinguished', and is about the slow reduction of lights on certain Islands, as people leave & never come back... Please listen to that tune my friend, and give it a go!!! xoxoxox
Thanks Glenn, Da Slockit Light is a Scottish Air written by Tom Anderson from the Shetland Islands. I’ll have a go later as I’m working on a difficult Classical Tune at the moment.
John.... Do you mind me asking, if you are "A man of the Cloth".... It doesn't matter either way, except for understanding your likes/need better!!
No Glenn, I’m not a man of the cloth, You’re referring to my video ‘The Old Rugged Cross.’ I just dress up in the appropriate costume for the video I’m playing.
🐾🐾🐻🇫🇮 Moi.
That's fantastic John.... May I impart another short story my friend???.... Unrelated here initially, there's a musician I liked of old, called 'Gary Talley" He 'used' to be the main singer of an older group called "The Boxtops".... One of their most famous songs was called "The Letter". (Gimme a ticket for an Aeroplane, Ain't got time to take a fast train....). Anyway!! now, years later, he has sung a lot of old religious songs, with/for his Mother, 'Nita Talley' in her 90's now..... ONE of their favorites is "The Old Rugged Cross", which my partner 'Susie' & I love!! Search for RUclips "The Old Rugged Cross" by "Gary Talley". And of course many others by them!!!... Have a great day John... Glenn & Susie 🤠
I may be wrong? but I think she has passed away now??? 'Nita' was also an accomplished Piano player, so maybe also check out this "He Touched Me", by Gary Talley & his Mom (playing the piano...) xoxox
Thanks Glenn. After following your suggested searches, I found two more songs to play.
I remember years ago, playing alongside bagpipe players, that I would use a Capo, and play a semitone out of key with them !!!!!!! xoxox
John... I'm just chatting out of interest here!!... (I'm familiar/used to most instruments/playing)... My 'missus' wants to play a simple & basic Piano Accordion. I explained to her, about an alternative 'Button Accordion', with various keys!!... And explained though, that the 'Notes' do NOT just depend on the Button pressed, but whether you are 'Pushing' or 'Pulling' at the time!!!... In the same way that you 'Suck' or 'Blow' on a Harmonica!! to hit specific Notes. I have/play Harmonicas in many Keys also, and I know how hard it can be to explain... You just 'Learn' quickly about sucking & blowing!!! I 'bet' you would pick-up playing a Button-Accordion quickly, if you have not already tried... 🤠😎
John... On top of what I said below, here, I hope you don't mind my additional thoughts about the late 'George Jones', which was also depicted so nicely on RUclips. Search for... "George Jones' Emotional Final Performance: 'He Stopped Loving Her Today" It includes numerous references to Georges history/people, and this lovely song. And 'I' at least thank you too, John, for your more contemporary contribution here!! 🤠
Here's a wild idea!!!.... In some of your tunes you play, you are wearing an old 'Cowboy' outfit. So 'maybe' you can keep your alternate Harmonicas where the 'guns' go, in the holsters!!!.... I noticed once in one of your tunes, (mid-tune key changes), that you were fiddling badly with shirt pockets!!!.... Just a thought, my friend, for showman-ship 🤠🥰
👍👍
John... I know it is NOT the same tune, but PARTS of this sounds very much 'LIKE' the tune/song called 'Maggie' sung by 'Foster & Allen'... Still GREAT though John !!!!
Love it John, and thank you once again !!!! Roy Rogers himself also sings it beautifully.... Roy Rogers: Home On The Range Can't possibly miss the classical old 1-2-3 'Waltz' xox
Without 'actually' checking, John, was that in the key of 'D' ?
I had to check myself Glenn, and it's in the key of C.
Hey!! I'm the first here again!! hahaha... Dear John.... (woops, this is not a 'Dear John' letter!!)... You seem to play everything that I love. I'm now a 69 y/o 'youngun' and always remember & play all the old stuff that my 'father' loved !! A 'long' time ago, he introduced me to "Tennessee Ernie Ford", with his beautiful deep voice... He also played "How Great Thou Art", which I play often!!.... Please excuse me! if I dare to talk about someone else here, John. If interested, on RUclips, search for .... tennessee ernie ford how great thou art (Starting at about 22 secs!!) and select the 2nd result from the top of the list. You still do a great job John !!!! 🥰
Thanks Glenn. I never new that Tennessee Ernie Ford did this song, so I had a look and got a few other songs to play by looking around.
Nice rendition John.... I found this too, which is nice!!!.... when Alan Jackson sung this too, at 'George Jones' Funeral.... Search for... Alan Jackson - He Stopped Loving Her Today at George Jones' Funeral . Evidently, it was played/sung by him at the "Grand Ole Oprey". Alan Jackson is not always a real 'heavy country' singer, and often likes some more slower and sentimental pieces. One such piece of his that we love, is about his youth, and the ensuing years, called "Remember When....". It includes a fair bit of 'Mandolin' too, which I play as well as the guitar, but not as well !!!. You have a new fan now! from mostly sunny Western-Australia 🤩 Glenn. I will certainly spread your 'Presence' on the scene !!!
Just to explain to some people... There are 'SO' many old folk tunes/songs, that started out differently, many years ago. A lot of them started out as just 'tunes', but later had new/existing 'words' added later... It's quite complex....
Thank you again, John, for your great talent showing through!!! I'm a Guitarist, with many 'Folk Groups', and have played this hundreds of times!!! One old Scottish man we know, still swore it is a Scottish tune/song !! (Sshhh... we know!) Yes, the words were put to the old 'Londonderry Air', but we all still love it!!! And yes, I do believe that it's about a Son, going off to War, & eventually/hopefully making it Home... xoxox P.S.... See my comments under... "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain (New)".... Fantastic mate!!!
Thamk you for your comment and I think your right, it's about a Son, going off to War.
Wow!! no other comments!!!!.... There's nothing better than some great mouth-organ tunes.... I'm most definitely reminded about years ago.... I'm a Folk Guitarist, and a new 'neighbor' started playing the harmonica one night!!... So over the fence, I started joining his playing... He then came over, and we played so many old tunes... His 'mate' could not understand how we could create such music, together... He did not understand how easy it is for 'us' !! When you 'get it', you just 'get it' !!! It was a lovely evening....
Thanks, your comment has broken the ice now. Nice over the fence story by the way.
This was my late Dad favorite song who was a true cowboy at heart ❤ n miss you dad Francis Quay Sr. RIP😢
This needs more views!

I thank you kindly. Have a nice day.
❤❤❤make. cover of. alicia keys/ womans worth please🙏👏👏👏
Thanks for your request but but after watching the video, I find that it wouldn’t fit into my style of videos, which would involve finding the right royalty free pictures and for my dressing up in the appropriate attire as I do in all of my videos. So there’s a lot more than just playing the music. Sorry I can’t help with this one.
Very good work ..... !!!!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.
Well done Dude I really enjoyed your playing of the old Honer !!!🍺🤠👍
