Hark! The Herald Angels Sang
Просмотров 43Месяц назад
"Hark! The Herald Angels Sang". I've included this Christmas carol in the videos from CCB's recent concert because we were all thrilled at the singing from the audience. Not often do we get such good audience participation. (Well in Australia at any rate)

Six White Boomers

"Six White Boomers" is one of only a few Christmas songs set in the hot Australian countryside rather than the cold snow of the Northern Hemisphere. Composed in 1960 by John D Brown the chorus words talk about Santa's six reindeer being replaced by six white boomers (big kangaroos) for his Australian run. Reet Petite

Reet Petit (originally subtitled "The Finest Girl You Ever Want to Meet") is a song written by Berry Gordy, Billy Davis, and Gwen Gordy Fuqua, and made popular by Jackie Wilson in 1957. In jazz lingo, the term "reet" meant "fantastic". So this music is describing the fantastic, petite, sweetest girl in town. Played here by Campbelltown City Band at their joint concert with KWM Band at Wallaroo ...
City of Lights

"City of Lights" by Bill McAllister. City of Lights was not written about Adelaide, often called the city of lights, but about Perth, Australia. Perth became known worldwide as the "City of Light" when the city's residents switched on their house lights and streetlights as American astronaut John Glenn passed overhead while orbiting the Earth on Friendship 7 in 1962. The city repeated the act a...
The Thievish Magpie

"The Thieving Magpie" is a melodrama in two acts by Rossini written in 1817. It is best known for the overture. Rossini wrote quickly, and this opera was no exception. A 19th-century biography quotes him as saying that the conductor of the premiere performance locked him in a room the day before the premiere with orders to complete the opera's still unfinished overture. He was under the guard o...

Crocodile Rock

"Crocodile Rock" is a song written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and recorded in 1972 Well OK, but what’s the connection with Australia - apart from a crocodile? The song was inspired by John's discovery of leading Australian band Daddy Cool and their hit single "Eagle Rock", which was the most successful Australian single of the early 1970s (with 1,000,000 sold), remaining at No.1 for a rec...

"Australia" by Alex Lithgow Alex Lithgow was a Scottish-born, New Zealand and Australian based composer and bandleader who lived in Launceston. He wrote over 200 marches and became known as the "Sousa of the Antipodes". He died in 1929. This march, “Australia”, is not played as much as many of his other marches so we have selected it to give it a good airing. In fact we couldn’t find out anythi...

No woodwinds? Excellent, with all brass!!
No. British style brass bands don't have any reed instruments, nor French horns or trumpets. Just the brass instruments. Poor soprano cornet player has to play the piccolo part.
@brentonbrockhouse7992 Thank you, sir! I didn't know that. As a former bandsman myself, I played trumpet, treble clef baritone (my favorite) and tuba. Playing Sousa's marches were always my favorite. If you get a chance, listen to "Glory of the Yankee Navy", the baritones have a wonderful part in that march. Thanks again for the information.
They did an outstanding job and just for a chuckle the young lady in the red dress playing the drums is in her bare feet. I guess when you're in the last row you can get away with that. Regards, Denis Berte' USMC

Terrific intonation and dynamic contrasts. Well done.
Thanks Nigel. We were pretty amazed we managed this piece as we are a C-Grade band in South Australia.
The music was composed by John Larsson, the lyrics by John Gowans, from their musical 'The Blood of the Lamb'
Yes indeed. Thanks Peter.
Seems like someone didn’t study the BPM.
Que lindo ❤
Beautiful solo.
The composer is W.C. Handy and not W.C. Hardy.
Yes it is. Thanks for correcting me. Poor eyesight is my excuse.
