    Banana chips are getting harder to find in the store and SO expensive! I was going to look up how to make them and here you are! If they don't all get eaten right away 😂 can they store in the cabinet or should they go in the fridge?

    • @jointhejeffersons
      @jointhejeffersons 3 дня назад

      Thank you for watching🫶🏽! You’re absolutely right; banana chips can be so expensive! Once you make your own, you’ll love how easy and budget-friendly they are. To store them, you can keep them in an airtight container at room temperature in the cabinet for about a week. For longer storage, the fridge is great, but make sure they’re completely dry to avoid any moisture issues. But honestly, I didn’t even get to test that out because my husband ate them all as soon as I made them 😆

    Wonderful! Banana plants will grow beautiful leaves here in TN but never get enough warm days to fruit. The variety of plants you have is great not just for helping you eat a variety but can also reduce the risk of diseases that attack big orchards with their acres of a single crop.

    • @jointhejeffersons
      @jointhejeffersons 3 дня назад

      Thank you so much! You’re so right, bananas can be tricky to fruit in cooler climates. It definitely took us some time to finally get fruit, but once they started, there’s no stopping them now! For TN, don’t lose hope, try growing cold-hardy varieties like Orinoco or Blue Java. You can protect them in winter by mulching heavily around the base or wrapping the trunk to keep it from freezing. Even starting them in pots and moving them indoors during the cold months can help! With some patience and care, you just might get bananas too. And even if they don’t fruit right away, the leaves are beautiful and give such a tropical vibe. Keep at it, you’ve got this!

    Hopefully you’re not going to eat them. Or the kale or the other one. They are not healthy. Humans can hardly absorb and of the vitamins and minerals in them. This is known biochemistry that professionals don’t tell you. You know what else they don’t tell you, at red meat is where you’ll find all the proper human nutrition and it’s fully absorbed and it’s how humans thrive.

    You should try a loquat tree which looks ornamental, but it gives great fruits. Another one of my favorite is the mamey Americana (not the sapote one) they are beautiful ornamental trees you can plant in the front yard. For flowers I would like to suggest to introduce some native flowers. Yes, you will go into a rabbit hole on that one. I am getting sucked into it 😅. Good luck to you. You are young and doing a great job.

    • @jointhejeffersons
      @jointhejeffersons 16 дней назад

      Thank you so much for the suggestion! We’ve started growing a loquat tree from a seed we got from our neighbor’s tree and really hoping it gives us fruit this year. If not, my son loves making trips over there to grab some from their tree. I think I’m starting to get into more flowers too; I’m slowly understanding the obsession lol! Thanks again for the encouragement and great ideas: and thank you so much we are doing our best 💕

    Rinse the beans thoroughly. • Soak them in a bowl of water overnight (8-12 hours). 2. Drain and Rinse: • Drain the beans and rinse them with fresh water. • Place them in a sprouting jar or container with a breathable lid (like cheesecloth or a mesh screen). 3. Keep Moist: • Rinse and drain the beans 2-3 times daily to keep them moist and prevent mold. 4. Monitor Growth: • You’ll notice tiny sprouts starting to emerge within 1-3 days. • Most beans are ready to eat or plant within 2-7 days, depending on the desired sprout length.

    Such great aesthetics and functions in a small space. Thank you for sharing your journey and showing people it can be done in small yards. You have built a beautiful space. While I enjoy seeing videos of homesteaders, most of us on 1/4 an acre or less cannot relate. I prefer videos of people in subdivisions because that’s applicable to more people. Having a partner who shares the same joy as you in the garden is absolutely priceless. I cannot say that enough times. I look forward to this journey. I’m subscribing.

    Storing freshly pulled carrots properly can help them stay fresh and crisp for weeks. Here’s how to store them: 1. Prep the Carrots • Remove the greens: Cut off the green tops about an inch above the carrot. The greens draw moisture from the carrot, causing them to wilt. • Don’t wash: If the carrots are dirty, gently brush off any dirt. Washing them before storage can lead to spoilage. Only wash them right before use. 2. Storage Options • Refrigerator: • Place the carrots in a perforated plastic bag or a container with a damp paper towel to maintain humidity. • Store them in the crisper drawer, where the humidity is higher. • Carrots can last up to 3-4 weeks this way. • Root Cellar or Cool, Dark Place: • Layer the carrots in a box or container with sand, sawdust, or peat moss to keep them cool and moist. • Ensure the storage area is dark, with a temperature of 32-40°F (0-4°C) and high humidity. • This method can keep them fresh for several months. 3. Freezing (For Long-Term Storage) • Blanch the carrots: Peel and cut them into your preferred size, blanch in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then transfer to an ice bath to stop cooking. • Freeze: Dry the carrots, spread them on a baking sheet to freeze individually, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. Frozen carrots can last up to a year. By following these steps, your fresh carrots will stay sweet and crisp until you’re ready to use them!
