How lovely was that when I first went to live in Becontree after being in the east end of London I thought it was heaven when I visited barking for the first time I loved it and went there many times what a sad place now when returned a few years ago I couldn’t believe it was the same place I was married at barking abbey church 57 years ago lots of happy memories ❤

Is this a true tail

No mention at all of the substantial iron age hillfort at Eston Nab which overlooked Middlesbrough and is the only one known in Cleveland. Its ramparts are still visible. Yet you mention Thorpe Thewles which is beyond Stockton! Middlesbrough Priory is depicted with generic priory image which is misleading. M'bro Farm is depicted with another generic image. An image for that does exist and could have been used. M'bro was THE iron-making capital of the world. BV & Co. THE world's biggest company in the world and Eston mine THE biggest ironstone mine in the world are massive facts that should have been included.

Errrrm... so, I definitely would have been a teacher's pet! 🤭 I'm from the UK and in some part of the county there is a compulsory exam at the age of 12 called "12+". I'm so glad I went for it. It gave me incredible options for my secondary school. (I think that's what American's where call "high school") there were three to pick from. The Royal Grammar, Dr Challoners and John Hampden Grammar. They all had their own strengths and weaknesses. However, in the end I settled for Dr Challoners because it was known for being heavily science focused and that's what interested me the most. Another one of the schools was known for sport: having the highest ranked Football team in the country. I remember studying for weeks and waiting months for the result.. but eventually, receiving that good news gave me freedom to choose my future at a prestigious school - these were also all-boys schools - as opposed to the mixed secondary that everyone who didn't pass the exam ended up attending. It was still a good part of the country, so the public high school was not a bad school by any means, it just lacked the prestige of a grammar school with an entrance examination. So.. without additional distractions (in addition to puberty, hormones, trouble making kids, the excitement of anything new like... the opposite sex) Somehow I managed to earn 10 GCSE grades - all A grade or higher.. this then gave me my next choice again of college/"6th form" - where I gained 4 "A Levels". I chose to stay at my grammar school, change uniform have access to a different part of the school for college students. I don't know what the equivalent grades or school positions would be in America.. but finally after 6th form college, I assume University is the same. That's where you earn a degree being aged 18+ for 3 to 4 years depending on difficulty of subject. Then onto a doctorate PhD, followed by a "masters" degree. The point in my schooling career where I turned 18+ was the only education system that was gender mixed for me! It's also the only place I struggled with studies and things became exponentially more difficult!! Probably because of the distractions, which I fully embraced.

I was born in Barking and lived on the Heath park estate until I was nearly 13 years old. I was bought to Australia. I did not return to visit family until I was 36! Since then I crave my home of Dagenham in many ways. I explore it whenever I return and have visited Valance house a few times, its fascinating. LOL love Romford There is a charm that I am drawn to. Thank you for this glimpse, it gives much to be proud off. My father like hundreds of others worked at FORDS. He was there when the ladies went on strike. I have the movie based on it "Made in Dagenham" its fascinating. Mum work at May & Bakers... Thank you for this.
