excellent document!!
Yellow pants, white skates, that crazy music... it certainly was the 1970s.
Rogie Vachon. The reason I am an L.A. Kings fan to this day. Such a brilliant, exciting goalie.
Attendance at The Forum was 10,268.
The Golden Seals messed up big time winning this game by shutting down any playoff hockey for the State of California in April /May 1973 ...Great nobody is paying attention on sports television, or paying at the hockey rink box office 💰💰💰💰 attending games till next September 73.... Hockey in the California Sunshine !
Growing up in Canada with one game a week on TV during this era, these teams were only captured for us kids by hockey cards and magazines, because we never saw them play. The Seals and Kings had the coolest uniforms. It’s so great to see footage of them playing against each other at the Fabulous Forum.
Really we in a major Canadian city we're lucky to have watched multiple games with either Kings / Seals vs Maple Leafs .... low budget special lol
I think it's safe to say that very few people, if any, at least north of the border ever saw the Seals and Kings play against each other in a televised game. Seeing footage of these two is a rather pleasant unexpected surprise.
No better color matchup in the 1970's!
Rogie is 5'7"", never seemed to matter much he was so agile and quick, 3 time Cup winner in days before Dryden.
Vintage Golden Seals
Given how very few games that they won, it was nice for them to get a win and play the role of spoiler. Thanks for posting the video.
Always felt sorry for Meloche. Every night facing massive amount of shots and no hope of winning...that's called shell shocked. I'd guess he still has nightmares every night of rubber discs flying at him. He started with Chicago as Tony O's backup, saw him play a few games, pretty decent. Imagine him as the first string on a good team. Like Marcel Dione one of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history. But try to imagine if he played for a great team...Wayne who and he was a great all around player.
Is the announcer Tim Ryan?
I named one of my dogs after Rogie. Go Kings! Still watching them over 50 years later. I moved close to the bay area during high school and caught a Kings/ Seals game in Oakland. Years after they folded a friend showed up at another friends house wearing that awesome Seals jersey. I begged him for it. A few months later, after i forgot about it, he handed me a bag and to my surprise it was that jersey. Wish i knew what happened to that thing 😢
Joey Johnson looks like the "I'm gonna straighten you out..." guy from Slap Shot.
Love the uniforms!!
I loved those all gold uniforms of the Kings when I was a kid.
They were beautiful! Now we have the ugliest in pro sports..
Looking at the standings for this season, you'd think Clarence Campbell was smoking crack. In the Eastern Division, you have a familiar eastern venue in Vancouver while in the West Division you have western venues like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta. Would have made more sense to have Philly, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta in the East and Vancouver, Detroit, and Toronto in the West.
The NHL shuffled divisions more than Russia had revolutions
They learned geography from the NFL.
@@davidlafleche1142 remember when the NFC West consisted of the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams, and SF 49ers?
When goalies played on they’re skates, not on they’re knees.
Everyone always talks about Orr in this tournament and rightfully so as he was the MVP of the tournament but Rogie was the MVP of team Canada
Ahhh the golden state plying hockey
Serge Bernier for Kings.
Future Flyer and Conn Smythe winner Reggie Leach scores the 2nd goal for the Seals. And note the white skates on the Seals.
What an awesome video collage of the great saves in the 1976 Canada Cup tournament from Rogatien (Rogie) Vachon. I was 14 years old in September of ‘76 and did not watch all of Canada’s games. My favourite save was the slap shot from Milan Novy that Rogie picked out of the air that had “goal” written all over it. Great memories here. I’d still love to get my hands on one of those Team Canada jerseys! 🇨🇦
California and Oakland Seals (Late 60's) were always my favorite uniforms of all time as are my Oakland A's still ~ Second favorite were the Minnesota North Stars ~ home whites were beautiful
Las Vegas A's now unfortunately. Sucks doesn't it?
Dang it Kings! We needed that one!
Expansion and two leagues made for terrible low level. Go back and watch skaters in 60s Boston or Montreal and compare with skaters in this clip.
My grandfather played in this game. Very cool to be able to see him in action!! Thanks for the video
What was his name?
@@stephaneblais9149 everyone always has a grandfather who played in some game *LOL*
@@stephaneblais9149 wayne gretzky
@@joedimaggio3687 LMAO 😂😂😂😂
Who was your grandfather?
I Loved watching this program every Saturday afternoon on NBC in Chicago back in the day. It was the NFL films of the NHL at the time!
Thanks for sharing that...I was wondering why a certain (apparently/purposely forgotten Kings' announcer) wasn't doing this summary? Ironically, he came from the Seals to do the Kings 1972/'73 season and was unceremoniously dumped thereafter-when Bob Miller came on. All I can tell you is that Roy Storey was always nice to us kids when we pestered him at the booth. At the old Forum in Inglewood, the broadcaster's booth was center ice, a little over half way up...and you caught walk right up and talk to them...not like today with their exalted towers on a seperate floor way above the ice. By the way, Dan Avey was the color man-one of the best, ever. rl
70's hockey, LOVE IT! 12-16 teams was more than enough for me. 30 teams sucks.
It's Rogie Vachon vs. Gilles Meloche. It's Butch Goring vs. Joey Johnston (whose 1974 hockey card I could never pull from a pack)! It's NHL hockey in California and lots of gold, green and purple! Thanks for posting this near-50-year-old footage!
Best hockey era 😊👍
@@MaidenCanada Well, it IS pre-Bettman!
the best performance by a Team Canada goalie ever. MVP for Canada easy. Just noticing how big the eye holes are in his mask. Crazy.
Gotta love the white skates! Vintage
Thank Charlie Finley for that. He thought it was cool for the "Swingin' A's," why not the Seals too.
@@Blue_Dun The white skates were another example of how Finlay was a baseball man and not a hockey man.
I'd forgotten Reggie Leech played for the Seals before becoming a superstar with the Flyers.
The only Flyer ever to win the scoring title.
@@Rockhound6165 ..and one of the very few players to have Ken Dryden's number.
ROGATIEN VACHON IS MY IDOL
Meloche
If he had a better team in front of him, Meloche would have won the vezina, and more than once im sure 😊👍
I remember him from his North Star days. I never knew he played for the Seals. He was always one of my favorite goalies.
@@anthonyriche552 He was always a favourite of mine as well. He didn't get the credit he deserved unfortunately.
@@MaidenCanada Agreed!! 100%%%
@@anthonyriche552 I think I need a Meloche jersey 🥰👍👍
Loved NHL Action show.
I Loved it too watched it every Saturday afternoon on NBC in Chicago back in the day. It was the NFL films of the NHL at the time!
I wonder who the dumbass was to put a thumbs down on rogue vashon?
Je me demande vraiment qui pourrait être assez stupide pour mettre un pouce vers le bas sur les faits saillants de la vidéo de M. Vachon?
Is that Rogue Vachon in goal ...
Yes
We always called the Kings home uniforms 'pajamas'.
"SAVED BY VACHON" !!!!
best goalie in the nhl for 3 or 4 years in the mid seventies,'74-'77.
Before the 1972-73 season began, the California Golden Seals lost a lot of players to the WHA, which began operation in 1972-73.
Maybe that's why they were always so horrible.
What's up with the audio?
The Kings need to go back to those uniforms.
Finley!
Check out Butch Goring #19 on the Kings, who some 7 years later would get traded to the Islanders and the rest as they say is history.
Rogatien, rogatien
It's refreshing to watch stand up goalies play instead of today's goalies who go down on their knees more than a $ 20.00 hooker.
What a goalie he was. And what a great moustache !
My hero as a goalie. Fun fact- He looked exactly like entertainer Sonny Bono.
0:24 is terrifying
I think that is my dentist at 1:10!
White skates LMAO
They were made of Kangaroo leather (seriously) they gave the Seals a little exrra hop!
Charlie Finley
@@BillMorganChannel No, Finley wanted kangaroo leather but it was too soft. They were regular skates, whitewashed (painted) over and over and over. Source = 'Shorthanded - the untold story of the Seals' by Brad Kurtzberg.
@@skifusya2814 Wow thank you. I remember watching Hockey Night In Canada, maybe 1973, and the commentator absolutely said they were kangaroo leather and asked if they gave the hapless Seals an extra hop.
@@BillMorganChannel I can believe it. If I remember correctly he wanted to have baseball shoes made for the A's out of the same leather, too.
1973 Seals vs Kings , good seats available, LOL
WOW!!!!!
