Improved Triac circuit
* Theoretical analysis: up to 6:14min
* Practical analysis with oscilloscope: 6:14 to 13:09.
In this video, we discuss how the phase shift between the input voltage and the timing capacitor introduces a hysteresis when the circuit operates at high phase angles (lowest dimming settings). This can cause flickering as the phase angle timing may be wrong or missed. In addition, when the dimmer is started, a 'pop' effect is often seen, where the circuit does not start until the phase angle is reduced and then increased again, for example where a bulb brightness must first be increased at turn on, before it can be reduced to the lowest settings.
The circuit comprises a method to remove any residua...

How does a triac dimmer work?
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
In this video we cover the fundamentals of the circuit diagram employed on a standard triac phase cut regulator - How it works and how does it fire the triac to achieve the desired load regulation. We then follow to probe the circuit, showing vaveforms produced at the TRIAC gate & load with both an ideal resistive load and a non linear load - in this case a LED light bulb - demonstrating why th...

Now to answer your question in seriousness, no it does not. You can put it at the "top", as shown at 3:57 (conected to the resistors R2, R4 and R3), or at the "bottom" (connected to D2, C1 and D4). It also does not matter whether the top AC terminal is live and bottom is neutral or vice versa, since the input is (typically) just a symmetrical sinusoidal AC wave.

Although not explicitly indicated with a + sign, the capacitor symbol shown is typical of a polarized capacitor.

If the original works, this one will too - But only on AVR based arduino boards. I just came back for it! You can find schematics and library here: forum.arduino.cc/t/hd44780-boards-using-spi-interface/370420 It is called LC4bitSPI.zip and it is just imported as any other library. Inside the library, there is an example, basically tou just add these two lines to the very top of the code: #include <LC4bitSPI.h> LiquidCrystal lcd(5); The number 5 is the pin used for the SPI CS pin. Other pins can be used, with exception for the SPI pins themselves and the analogue pins (Ax). If you were using the original library, delete any other numbers there, that were used for the paralel pins. The remaining pins are just SPI, same ones on the 6 pin programming connector, with exception of Reset. Good Luck!

Hello, by far the best video on the subject after quite some searches One question, you say that 2 components are optional at the start How can I read in data sheet if the trial can manage or not faulty current (you said something like that ) The triac I have is m12jz47 for an ac motor speed control of a vaccum cleaner Brgds

Thank you very much for sharing this knowledge , I have been looking for a useful information about controlling AC source and this is the best , but I would kindly request you place the load in your schematic , also the reason to search for this practical triac triggering technique is , I am looking for a project about controlling the speed if an AC induction motor with TRIAC and your work here is a good foundation for me , I would also suggest if possible you can try and share the same with AC motor Once again thank you r for the great work

This is an excellent circuit, The Diodes seem to cater for the peak of the 120 Volt supply and 600 Volts is being extra safe. The capacitor C! at 7:42 is shown as an electrolytic but this C1 has to accept both polarities. A good idea and it provides a great improvement to the unit.

This was a very thorough explanation and also complete with all possible visual perspective and analysis. If a person does not understand the diac and triac after reviewing this video I would be very surprised. Best Triac video ever made in the history of mankind. No, I’m not exaggerating.
