That's great! My pleasure. Glad it helped you out.
@billblakely Yes! I'm editing a family vacation to Yosemite, and I just turned boring GoPro dash footage into a cinematic masterpiece. 😂
😅😅😅
Thank you, Bill. Always wondered how to do that and now I know. Well explained.
You're welcome! Glad to be of help.
Excellent video, you made the process so clear and easy, I followed every step you went through and the result was perfect!
Alright! Great to hear it worked out so well for you. Thanks for the feedback.
💗💗💗💗
Thanks very much!
Do you happen to know do I do what is done here: ruclips.net/video/XhoQJoG_OaU/видео.html he is sort of zooming / magnifying the player healthbar & window and then resizing it back. I am trying to do this in Davincin Resolve, but I am unable to find a way.
I think you need to make some cuts (command B/Ctrl B in Windows). Decide where you want to zoom in or out and make a cut. Then decide where you want to get back to normal and make another cut there. Go back tot the part where you want to alter the zoom level. In the Inspector use the Zoom X Y parameters and (possibly) Position X Y parameters.
@@billblakely Thanks. I ended up finding a way, by simply cropping a section, duplicating the clip above and using transform keyframes or dynamic zoom.
Super useful. I don't know how to use fusion but I'm confident I can do this after watching this tutorial
I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks for the feedback.
Nice! I never knew you could open up the mask like that.
👍
Outstanding presentation. Thanks!
Thanks very much! Really appreciate it.
This was extremely useful! So well explained! Thank you for that
Thank you very much! I'm happy you found it useful. Much appreciated.
@@billblakely well deserved. Ive came here by accident im staying by will :D Keep the good work!
Thank you.
You're welcome! Cheers.
Bro please make a video "how can i freeze a selected areas in davinci resolve"
I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean how to create a freeze frame on the Edit page then check out this video: ruclips.net/video/bfnqYAVkjs8/видео.html. Or do you mean how to create a freeze frame on the Fusion page? Or do you mean this: eg. there's a shot of a guy watching a movie and eating popcorn but you want the movie to be frozen while everything else keeps moving?
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank you, Bill for such a helpful tutorial!
You're welcome! Glad you found it helpful.
thank you thank you !!
You're very welcome!
This is a very useful step by step tutorial with relevant variations >> valuable orientation and alignment pointers >> thank you perfect 👌💯🎥😎🌟
Thanks so much! Appreciate it. Glad you found it useful.
thanks bro its a bit difficult but ok love from India
I know! 😫 It's the most straightforward and flexible approach I could find. There are easier ways but they're not very flexible and so not very useful. Cheers from Canada.
I don't know when I'm going to need to know how to do this but I'm saving this right now so when that time comes, I'll have this waiting for me to refer to. #GoodStuff
Thanks very much! Happy to hear you found it useful. Cheers!
Thanks for an excellent walkthrough! I learnt NLE originally on Media 100 and Avid. Trim tool was my go to for almost anything in Avid. But DVR's Trim tools have always been a little intimidating - too many options. The U key for choosing incoming and outgoing will make life a lot easier, and option U for V or A only comes in clutch for J and L edits!
You're welcome! It's great that you found it helpful. Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you so much! This is very clear and easy to follow, just like a tutorial should be. Being new to raw editing, it helps me a lot. Thank you once again!
You're welcome! My pleasure. Happy you found it helpful.
Really easy and good teach, thank you!
You're welcome! Glad you liked it.
The most comprehensive coverage of the subject in DVR I found. Thank you so much!!
You are welcome! Thanks so much for the feedback.
Thanks so much that easy and clear tutorials!
You're welcome! So glad you like them.
I love that he showed the little in between steps no one else ever does. Good job Bill!!!
Thanks so much! Much appreciated.
Excellent Tutorial! The features available seem daunting at first, but with good instruction like this I'm slowly getting to grips with this awesome software.
Thank you very much! I appreciate it. Glad the video was helpful. I'm continually impressed with the software, so much fun to play with. Cheers.
thanks for this video. Is there a keyboard shortcut to click the "Develop" button?
You're welcome. No there isn't but you can set up your own. From the "Affinity Photo 2" menu select "Settings..." then "Shortcuts" from the list on the left. You can specify a shortcut for the Develop Persona there.
One additional question F2 not working to rename on my Mac, have to right click and do it that way!
Hold down the 'fn' key and press F2. The fn key is at the bottom left corner of the Mac keyboard. It doubles as the emoji key, at least it does on my keyboard. Cheers.
@@billblakely Yeah I have tried that to no avail, but thanks!
Maybe you've assigned those keys to do something else. If I remember correctly that's something you can do.
@@billblakely No never assigned any keys, was looking up on apple and it says the 'globe' key is the 'fn' key but that is not working either, stumped. Such is life! Looked at the key assignments in the app as well to no avail.
@@billblakely Aha, forgot to click on the item, globe works with F2.
A great tutorial, very easy to follow wish I had seen this prior to trying to do this a bit earlier. Can you tell me a bit more on imported graphics please, can I import from PhotoShop files. can I also import illustrator files? I assume the files need to be on transparent backgrounds, what file types can I import? What sort of resolution do I need if placing on 4K vid? Plus any other additions information. Using DeVinci 19.
DV 19 doesn't change anything in regards to what's covered in the video. You can use any graphic file, as far as I know. Certainly all the popular formats. Easiest thing is to try and see. Do you mean photoshop and Illustrator project files? I really don't know. But anything exported from those apps should not be a problem. For transparency I use png. I haven't used other types but don't think they'd be a problem. Files you import don't need to have transparent backgrounds unless you want the background to be transparent. 4k is high resolution so if you use low resolution images they will stand out as such. That's all I can tell you for now. Happy you liked tne tutorial. Thank you.
Brilliant video! I'm familiar with all this logic from Blender Video Editing thingy but decided to switch to DaVinci now and feel a bit lost where to find what. Even though I got your drill at the first few minutes out of appreciation to how you were straiight to the point I watched all the way until the end so that I don't screw up your watchtime. Huge thanks!
You're very welcome! And thanks for watching till the end. I appreciate it.
Noob question: could you have used the offset tool instead of retracking the left dancer? Is there any reason I do not see to retrack instead of just adjusting with the offset tool?
Yes you could or you could use the offset controls in the tracker node. The purpose was to demonstrate how to fix a partial bad track without tracking the whole thing again.
Thanks for the best explanation of how masks work on Affinity.
You're welcome! Thanks so much for the feedback. Appreciate it.
This is the best tutorial on video tracking in DaVinci Resolve that I've ever seen! Nicely done!
That's great to hear. Thanks so much!

You're welcome! Thanks so much for the feedback. Appreciate it.
Thank you🙏
You're Welcome! 😊
I am taking a serious look at Affinity since I wouldn't mind divorcing Adobe, BUT the RAW conversion tools are really weak especially in the shadows and highlights compared to Adobe Camera Raw. Have you found the Affinity Photo conversion takes minutes per photo? Compared to Adobe, I have found its rendering into JPGs was much slower too.
I've never used Adobe. I don't have the money for a subscription. From watching videos however, it's clear that Photoshop has far greater depth and functionality of tools. On the surface Affinity Photo and Photoshop are pretty comparable but when you dig down deeper Affinity Photo comes up short many times. That said I don't find the conversion to JPEG to be slow at all. It's just fine for me. And for the things I do Affinity Photo is quite good. I don't find myself wishing it could do more. It all depends on your needs and ability to pay as to which is better, I guess. Clearly, right now, Adobe is superior in many ways. But how much that superiority is worth in practical terms is another matter. I usually spend between three to five minutes on RAW development per photo.
@@billblakely agreed. Well said. For ny weddings, the extra quality of ACR makes me keep using Adobe even though I wish AP well.
holy cow what a golden video, this helped so much especially since other videos were so outdated. Thank you!
Thanks so nuch! Glad it helped you out.
This video really helped me to get over the hump, so to speak, in developing the Raw files from my new used Leica Q2 Monochrom. You need to do more on this topic, but this one is the best I found by far. Very clear explanations and at an easy pace to follow. Thanks. 👍👍👍
So glad you found it helpful! As I remember I covered everything I personally do in RAW mode. I did leave out noise reduction since I almost never use it. What in particular woud you like to see more of on the RAW side?
@@billblakely I know this is a leap, but what about using developer on the iPad version. Slimmed down interface, but using my Leica Q2 Monochrom (any of the new Leicas will work) and the Leica Fotos app runs on an iPad as does Affinity Photo (I have the enterprise version), I am looking to streamline my workflow especially when I am out in the field rather than need a laptop or workstation. BTW - no need to do noise reduction. Masking seems to be an art at times and how to achieve subtle effects. .
I don't have an iPad so I can't do anything like that but there are some videos on that though I don't know how good they are. I have a two or three videos that cover masks explicitly and a bunch more that use them and discuss them even though they're not what the video's primarily about. All best.
@@billblakely The other thing that really doesn’t get explained is the tools on the left side of the screen. Everyone does the tools on the right side since they are the most common tools to make the major changes.
Thank you, I use the same tool to straighten panoramas ---- but like all editing; don't over do it. Interesting use of guides that I never used as I have grown used grids
You're welcome! Glad you liked it. Guides are handy. You can add just as many as you need. Grids don't provide that flexibility.
Exelent
Thanks very much!
Excellent tutorial, thank you. Explanations are to the point and the pace perfect.
Thanks very much! Appreciate it.
Cracking, Bill! Thank you. The most clear mask tutorial, top job! Have subscribed…👍. Cheers!
