Spectral Reverb - One of the Most Beautiful Guitar Effects (No Talk)
Просмотров 51721 день назад
This has got to be one of the prettiest sounding effects I've put on a pedal. No talk jam using the D.I.Y. Funbox pedal running the Venus Spectral Reverb module. A spectral reverb takes the guitar signal and shifts and sustains frequency groups to sound something like orchestral strings. It does this using a STFT (Short Time Fourier Transform). Code and project pedal info can be found on the Gi...
Gear Jam - BluesBreaker - When the Sun Goes Down

Blues song with a Bluesbreaker style pedal on a Blues Jr amp. First video of a segment I’m calling “Gear Jam”. The song is When the Sun Goes Down (In the Evening), which is an old blues standard. I’m attempting to play a version similar to how Gary Clark Jr does in his live recording of the song.

Community Tone Rundown - SmartPedal and Proteus
Sounds incredible, ill have to build one
This could sound really good with an acoustic guitar. Could you please let me know if the buffer circuits designed for the funbox work well with Piezo inputs? I looked up KNA's site. They specify that their pickups do well when the input impedance of our equipment is 1M ohms... What Funbox's?
I'm amazed this isn't more popular. Great design!
As far as I can see on your video...do you only set the input gain in the CODEX player for NAM captured amps? What about your settings in your audio interface. Do you set them to zero or just before clipping?
Great work as always Keith! I'm building this for sure with some modifications! I will update you... This would sound really good with an acoustic guitar. Could you please let me know if the buffer circuits designed for the funbox work well with Piezo inputs? With the audio buffer circuits, I'm assuming that the funbox can take instrument level input and outputs line level... Also I just looked up KNA's site. They specify that their pickups do well when the input impedance of our equipment is 1M ohms... What of Funbox's?
One question: Is it safe to run my hifiberry directly into my guitar amp? I'm worried that the hifiberry output level is too high (line level?) while the amp is expecting instrument level.
Just to let you know there's a minor error in the config_neuralpi.json file. The line that says "mode" : "stereo" should be replaced with "channels" : 2 (2 does not have quotes around it). Once I changed that, I ran sushi and could hear my guitar through the stereo amp that my Pi is hooked up to!
Sweet
Just wow!!
Awesome!
Hi Keith, really nice to hear some good old never aging blues, beautiful guitar sound and voice :). Having some programming skills, I would like to build also a pedal which leverages neural networks to reproduce different kinds of amp, pedals, etc. But, can you tell me if it is also possible to simulate reverb, delay and other kinds of effects? Also, you produced a lot of content and documentation - thank you a thousand times for that! -, do you think the NeuralPi Pedal you present in TowardsDataScience article is a good starting point? It has been three years now, maybe you would advice another path. Also, I am unsure how to distinguish the NeuralPi with the Daisy Seed-based pedals. Thank you for your work marrying elegantly both music and tech, that's really inspiring. Greetings from France!
Thank you! NeuralPi on the RaspberryPi is a good one to start with, although it's been awhile since l've done anything with it. It depends on what you want to accomplish. The RaspberryPi setup is a bit more expensive than the Daisy Seed, but it has more processing power for running neural nets. I had to shrink the size of the models significantly to run them on the Daisy Seed. I haven't tried doing reverb or delay using neural nets, I think for now at least the traditional DSP works best for time based effects.
Thank you very much for your answer!
7:22 Do I need the full version to import NAM files?
do you plan to sell them assembled or as a kit?
No plans to sell them at the moment, it’s more of a project pedal I wanted to put out in the DIY community. There’s a build guide with instructions on how to order parts, assemble, and upload the code.
What's the maximum loop length?
1 minute, but that’s kind of arbitrary, I didn’t test to find what the max could be
where do you get the lstm models from? do all lstm models work on the raspberry pi 4 or only very basic ones like a ts9?
Could this be ported to ios in the future? Its too good to be true when it comes to quality.
Hola amigo, saludos, veo todos tus videos, tal vez podrías venderme uno?, gracias
old video but no they sound nothing alike lol
Sounds magnifique, though blue LEDs should be banned. They are way too bright in the dark, and are decidedly non-vintage-correct. And everyone's digital pedal should be vintage-correct.
Just got done soldering one, sounds best before the electro harmonix LPB1 i just built yesterday
Tasty tones! The VerbDelay put me very much in mind of Devin Townsend and the Mooer Ocean Machine pedal, which I have always wanted to reverse-engineer (read: wanted someone to build an opensource platform with as many knobs). Glad to see you put your RPi neural modeller in it, have always been a little dissapointed that it never got much traction (compared to NAM which went absolutely crazy for no particular reason). I still have the PC version in most of my signal chains for when I just want a reliable amp emulation.
Sounds great! Are the processor and memory able to keep up with more effects?. Like adding some modulation or distorsion on top of what your Neptune module does
No, it’s pretty close to the limit as far as processing and memory with the Neptune module. You might be able to do some clever things to get more out of it though
Was hoping we could hear A/B of Genome vs. raw audio.
Awesome
Do you sell these ?
Not at the moment, it’s a DIY project, but if there was enough interest I might build and sell a few
Surprisingly warm.
nice demo :)
I’ve spent the last few weeks wondering if something like this exists or if I would I have to finally buckle down and get 200% better at dsp/pcb/ide/cad/lol. Huge thanks. This rules and is exactly what I was looking for. Can’t wait to dive in and build one. Also… this is the maybe the first steps into the whole future of creative audio…?
Are strymon pedals a con?
Awesome 🙌
These are all sounding wonderful! I'm planning to make an educational project out of adapting a scaled-down version or two for an already-built Terrarium, and so I really appreciate how you've open-sourced and documented the code and layouts. Rock on, dude!
With the input and output jack being stereo, Can I use mono cables to connect this pedal to my guitar and amp?
Yes! Both input and output works just fine with mono cables, with a stereo jack the right channel is simply grounded out. I pretty much only use a mono cable for the input since I’m coming out of the guitar.
You're a major asset to the guitar community. Keep it up! 🤘🙏♥️🎸
Great job done, bravo Keith!
Truly amazing. I saw how easy it was to install a complete guitar rig onto a Terrarium box, and I am very happy with that pedal. It's incredible that you were able to add MIDI and expression inputs in there too! I'm confident that you've made this pedal just as easy to complete. Thank you!
Nice work again! +1 on "Pluto will always be a planet to me!"
Great work Keith 🎉
Wow, sounds incredible!
How low are you able to set the block size for this pedal without getting any x-runs?
It’s running at a block size of 48, that’s usually what I set the Daisy Seed to, I haven’t tried any lower
@@GuitarML That's pretty good for the price. A block size of 48 is a latency of 2.8 ms. If you were to use 2 of these pedals in your chain (one before your valve amp and one in the fx loop, for example), you'll get a latency of 5.6 ms. It's not ideal, but probably unnoticeable for most people. Thank you for all your contributions.
Fantastic work, I'm amazed by everything you do. Could it be made compatible with a Terrarium ?
Thanks! And yes you could run it on Terrarium, you’d have to make some compromises on the toggle controls, and it wouldn’t be stereo, but yeah you could modify it to do that
Wow this looks really cool ! can the loop be synchro via midi also ?
No I haven’t coded it to do that yet, but it can be done
@@GuitarML it could be nice , effect pedals with midi sync are pretty rare
i use your klon model every week on my bkshepherd pedal.
Awesome! Yes that one turned out really well
Why not an LCD display in the FunBox setup, like the DaisySeedProjects one?
Good question, I’m not a big fan of screens on pedals, and in this case it probably wouldn’t fit. I’m using through hole components vs the smaller smd that the other pedal uses.
You’re on a roll!!!
Amazing work as usual!
Can this the same hardware as the mars pedal?
Yes
Cool! Which one does it have, line level output (for amp return) or instrumental level output (for amp return)?
Instrument level, it uses buffered audio input/output
Oh well, I'll need a DI if I want to connect to an amp return or mixer. Do you have any plans to modify the output so that the buffer can be toggled on and off (or a line level output version of funbox)?
No immediate plans, but it wouldn’t be too difficult, you’d just need a switch to bypass the buffer, since the daisy seed output is line level.
This is an excellent project. Thanks for sharing the work. Very impressive.
Total Cost?
$120 to $150 ish, I had alot of parts on hand so it’s hard to say how much one unit would cost from scratch.
@@GuitarML What's your estimate from scratch?
$150, I’m writing a build guide, see the section about ordering parts. It came out to about $100 for the actual parts and an additional $50 for shipping: medium.com/@keyth72/funbox-build-guide-afbd8046121e
@@GuitarML Ok, Thank you
Looks awesome!
