Varroa presentation
The scourge of varroa mite has finally reached Australia. Now the issue is how to control it in a way that allows beekeepers to maintain their hives and run successful businesses or hobbies. This video presentation by Jessica Helgen from the University of Minnesota provides a good overview of the problem and possible management techniques.

    Out of 2.7 kg of honey to make 45 g of wax, a yield of <2%! Considering the bees' wisdom (correctly chose the hexagonal shape for the cones to minimize the cost) this is surprising. Or a must per the chemistry?

    • @iktunutki
      @iktunutki Год назад

      This is wildly different from what books on the topic report: you'll read anything from 4kg:1kg to 16kg:1kg, with 8kg:1kg being the most reported figure. It's still an expensive process, but probably ~7-8 times cheaper than quoted in the video.

    • @zack_120
      @zack_120 Год назад

      @@iktunutki 4:1 yields sound reasonable per carbon equivalent: 4 glucose molecules (720 Dalton's) make up a 16-C palmitic acid (256 Dalton's) which is similar to wax corresponding alcohol constituents. So on weight basis the ratio is <3 which won't change for longer wax alcohol, e.g. 20C.

    I always wondered why beehives always make a lot more honey than they can consume. It seems like a waste of labor because honey lasts so long. You would think they would spend more time making queens and reproducing

    • @FrozenMermaid666
      @FrozenMermaid666 10 месяцев назад

      Because they need all that honey during winter for energy, and honey is bee food, it’s beyond śínfèł to śtèáł the honey of bees and give them chèáp sugar water with tap water that contains fluoride, no wonder those pòòr bees only live for 6 weeks, when they should be living for at least 6 months - and the egg-laying bee is the mother bee, not a ‘queen’ bee, and I am THE only Queen / Princess / Lady / Goddess / Leader / Star etc!

    • @FrozenMermaid666
      @FrozenMermaid666 10 месяцев назад

      Pfff, hum’ns shouldn’t be áłwd to śín in any ways, including the śíns against nature - bees and birds / chickens and butterflies etc and flowers / grasses / trees etc are living beings who are sacred and pure (only reflecting me the pure / sacred being) and they should have always been protected from hum’ns, and hum’ns shouldn’t be áłwd to śtèáł honey from bees and to fèrce mámmáłs into existence which are brèédíhng in the most śínfèł ways (or any other ánímáłs) and, only plánt-based pròducts must be used, including rice syrup or agave syrup or maple syrup etc instead of honey!

    • @FrozenMermaid666
      @FrozenMermaid666 10 месяцев назад

      The bee hives should be made from synthetic materials such as hárder plastics and polypropylene or something like that with modern designs and a proper roof that’s attached to the back of the hive, that doesn’t make contact with the upper edges of the hive and has about 3 cm between the edges and the roof, that can easily be flipped back without crùśhíng any of the bees who may be walking on the edges, and they should be durable and easy to wash and lightweight and a decent size because most hives I’ve seen are too small and bees don’t have enough room to move around - I want some hives like that myself, in áll colors and in different sizes, and I hope I can get my own bees in my backyard after I get moved to a proper home, as bees are cute and I like to see them marching into thèir new home, and I like to observe and study them and I want to see how they máke the honeycomb in real time!

    • @FrozenMermaid666
      @FrozenMermaid666 10 месяцев назад

      Besides, if a bee stings someone, it’s important to know that honey bees can free themselves in about 30 seconds to one minute if ppl don’t swat at them and don’t make them want to leave, by spinning clockwise and counterclockwise multiple times - if one moves or swats at them, they will fly off and the stinger will be stuck, and they will páss because of it, so if one gets stung, one should just wait and not move until the bee frees herself without losing the stinger!

      It's not nature, it's the creation of GOD, ALLAH, the unique, the Creator of everything, our Lord. Read from Quran if you search to learn. The last Book sent by God to the humanity to show them the right way to pass the exam of this shorten life in earth. In Quran, Allah, dedicated a full Surat, or Chapter, called THE BEES, in arabic An-nahl, in verses 68 and 69, ALLAH tell us about the bees :"" And your Lord revealed to the honey bee: 'Make homes in the mountains, in the trees and in the structures they raise.68.
