Lasted a whole 3 minutes watching this video no sound and black gloves! Cmon seriously fart or say something and get your hands dirty that’s what soap is for. Too funny
Too much work… 🙄
Great Video I was lost for a few mins hahaha but understood at the end .. 😂
what barrel length was that? ETA: I see a Faxon 7.5. But what HG is that exactly?
Aero Precision Gen 2 Enhanced Quad Rail 7.2”
Thanks for the video. I will be installing one of these next week. Looks fairly simple.
OMG, does anyone remember “The Anal Retentive Chef” skits from 1990s SNL?
May just be me but seems like u made that harder than it had to be
I like the videos well made, concerning the hand guards i prefer the ones that clamp from the bottom much easier and convenient to remove.
They are nice! The Aero hit a couple features I really wanted: anti-rotation, no chance of slipping forward or backwards, robust pic rails, and at a really good price. It would be nice to slip it off easily but the 8 screws aren’t too bad and offer a lot of peace of mind.
Excellent
Overkill on the grease.
Excellent video! Quick question - Which 12.625” Midwest Industries handguard did you use? They have a bunch of them.
Thanks! It’s actually an Aero Enhanced Quad Rail Gen 2, 7.3”.
very thorough. nice!
Thanks for this. It was nice watching and not having to listen to a bunch of nonsensical words. Perfect!
Got the same handguard and was thinking the same thing
hows that riflespeed working for you?
@kirkwest6654 hoping to do a video of running it soon but so far I think it’s awesome.
Chad is that you?
There's no point in bedding the barrel, especially with a liquid. You squeeze all that stuff between the face of the receiver & barrel. All you need to do is Lap the receiver to have the barrel trued to the receiver. Torquing the barrel nut will take care of the rest.
Got a barrel package, the gas tube was confusing, even after physically measuring it at home, got it on the 3rd try. Customer service was dog shit.
I trust School of the American Rifle more than these nobodies providing no valid criticisms. Good work.
I’m right there with you the SOTAR provides some of the best information out there
If you can slide that barrel on without heat or cooling, its no interference fit. Anybody who says otherwise isnt any real type of machinist.
Good video. Seems most neg comments didn't understand why
Nice job, It came out very nice..
Pre drilled to be pinned should be the standard for gas blocks. Idk why it’s not.
With the proper fixtures and tools I’d rather drill and ream both at the same time for a taper pin rather than a coil pin, but for DIY this worked out well.
Waste of time and money. Who ever heard of "lapping" aluminum? Stoner designed this weapon with RAM Logic so it could be maintained in the field without a myriad of precision toola and specifications. The Army figured out long ago that any M16 out of the rack can be issued to a non-shooter along with 8 hrs of basic markmanship can achieve battle sight zero and engage and hit targets at 300-350 meters away with open sights.
It is not a waste of time if accuracy and reliability is the goal..Not all upper receivers are square to the barrel and lapping them corrects this..
Should’ve used backspace for your entire comment.
I’m guessing the whole 90 degree thing with the torque wrench went out the window with the final precision torquing 😂😂😂😂
The longer the adapter, the less accurate the 90° method gets. The extra 10 foot pounds adjusted for length with the formula got the alignment above the minimum and below the maximum, just right according to Aero’s specs.
What’s the reason for the black gloves🤷♂️ to increase the mystery and intrigue 😂😂😂
Exactly. Might be covering up identifiable scars or tattoos, or maybe not leaving fingerprints all over everything. Standard procedure for loading mags too!
What is the critical temp, if you don’t mind me asking?
The alloy (7075) is heated, quenched, and aged at an elevated temperature in the manufacturing process to achieve the mechanical properties of the T6 designation (7075-T6). Critical temp is when it’s heated enough to affect those properties. Since it’s quenched at 470°C staying as far away as possible from that with a 2000°C torch is the objective.
Is this in slow motion?
Great product and I'd buy one if it wasn't so overpriced. I'll be happy with a superlative Arms.
Yeah, except you need a tool to adjust the gas. Unlike Rifle Speed you can adjust it fast without a tool.
If you can rotate the receiver and get it to slide up like that, it is not an interference fit at all to start with.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. You should not be able to get it on at all
Good work. Ignore the peanut gallery.
Thanks, Chad! High praise, considering the source. Love your work!
Says then worst "ar gun plumber" pn youtube. Go back to measuring shit that dont matter
@@jamesstephenson2346 are you okay bub?
All that nonsense is not needed😂 slide the receiver onto the barrel extension and lock it down😂😂😂😂😂don’t know why you people make such a complicated deal over such a simple process 😂😂😂😂😂
And just wrap your hand around the threaded part of the upper to warm it slightly and it will slide right on the barrel extension. No lube or solution needed.
Because not everyone wants “okay” some people want everything they can get out of a gun What you’re saying is like comparing a f class bench rifle and saying it’s too much and that your 400 dollar rem 700 is just as good
Try with a bcm. Won't happen
SOLGW who also has thermal fit upper just did a video a few months back saying they don't have time for hair dryer or torches and to just beat it on carefully with mallet being you put muzzle end on something "softer than the barrel" their words. I've done exactly the way displayed with the 5 or 6 rotations under the heat and installed first few uppers I placed barrel in freezer. But that ends up creating more steps for the prep
I watched that video and it reminded me of the time I saw a gunsmith at a show driving in pins with an adjustable wrench. And the time another gunsmith kinked the recoil spring in a 1911 disassembling it out of order. But I did buy a SOLGW combat trigger and it’s fantastic. If they whacked on it I sure can’t tell.
To each their own. Wtf
Thanks for showing the whole process brother!
You’re welcome bro! Hope it helps!
You can also put the barrel in the freezer
I have experimented with freezing the barrel but the humidity condenses on it instantly and any moisture will promote corrosion, especially between dissimilar metals. I opt for heat and bedding compound to keep that space dry and sealed.
@@GunFudded Also, it just isn't needed. The metals most barrels are made of won't shrink enough to do much of anything unless you cool to temps far lower than a normal freezer will produce anyway. Your thermal fitting was the best way to do it though I'm not a fan of bedding barrels in an AR. I like AR-15's and all but I'll stick to women. 😁
Buy a better upper and theres no need to bed it
I would argue that adding retaining compound to the extension of a barrel going into a thermal fit upper unnecessary. Think belt and suspenders 😅 But choosing to bed a barrel in no way indicates a “low quality” upper was used.
Thermal fit uppers ARE better
Stop buying cheap trash. Thermal fit IS better
Yep. Some use a belt to hold the gut in while the suspenders hold the pants up. The nut will hold it and the compound fills the surface and seals, eliminates any chance of corrosion by condensation infiltration, and locks the metals together when they expand and contract. Frequently used for bearing seats, injector cups, etc. in other disciplines.
@@GunFudded I’m pretty by the book and the only thing on my barrel extension is Aeroshell 33MS. If I were building a varmint or competition gun, maybe I would bed it.
Where did you pick up your dial indicator?
Harbor Freight
Simple to the point thank you!
Excellent video! Please do more. The slow pace and precise instruction make the video easy to follow.
Thanks, will do! More coming soon!
