Top 10 Pieces of Advice for Novices to Nuclear Throne I'm neither a pro at this game nor the best source of knowledge on its inner workings, but I just wanna share a few basic tips on how to survive this game's onslaught of bull**t. I'm sure many other people have made posts like this, but I don't care to look them up. Here's what I learned. Start with Crystal. Fish is a good character, but not a good first pick for a player that's still learning the ropes of the game. She's got more health than any other character and a really useful special. She's good for learning how the game works. Get her a melee weapon and loop between her special and attack to prevent any bullets to get past your defense. Always get Gamma Guts, especially before the sewers. It makes maggots a non-threat, and makes you able to walk into maggot nests, which is super satisfying. It allows you to kill Bandit by walking into him, it makes the Sewers infinitely more managable and also allows you to do the coolest thing in the game: walk through the big robots in the snow level. Cool guys don't look at explosions. Especially useful on Steroids, Eyes and Fish, but every character benefits from Gamma Guts. Get Boiling Veins before the Scrapyard. It helps you sooo much with the robot explosions, car explosions and fire obstacles. Just watch out for the crows and robots bullets. Get Extra Feet before the Crystal Caves. It's not the most useful power-up, but dragging your feet on the sticky webs there is not fun at all. Get a strong weapon for the Caves. Even if you wanted to do a melee-only run, consider getting something like a Flame Shotgun just for the caves. The spiders there are really annoying and have more health than even many later common enemies. Also having a Bazooka or Assault Slugger for the laser crystals can be a godsend. Get Trigger Fingers before the Snow level. Very useful with a Shovel, Sledgehammer, Crossbow, Slugger or Shotgun. This level will swarm you with enemies, and many of them will rush right at you, so you need to have your weapon ready to fire at all times. Also watch out if you use explosive weapons. You'll very often have to fight at close range. Get a Melee weapon for Lil' Hunter. You'll be able to protect yourself from his fire circle and send his bouncer projectiles right back at him. You'll find it so much easier to fight him even with a Wrench more than stronger weapons. Also, if possible, make sure to wait for him in a secluded area or make one for yourself during your fight with him. It's sometimes better to kill a weaker enemy and only focus on Hunter when you don't have to deal with anyone else. Get a really strong weapon for the Palace. By this point, you need some really good mutation synergy and/or late-game weapons to even survive. So, don't stay faithful to that wonderful Sledgehammer you found early on. Prepare yourself and get a Super Slugger, Minigun or Plasma Cannon. Have a Melee weapon when fighting the Throne! If you don't, you won't have anything to protect yourself from his bullet hell-spawning balls and will quickly get overwhelmed. If you just didn't get a good melee weapon at all lately, then you better make sure your dodging skills are impeccable. Or, that you're playing as Crystal. General Tip: Watch your ammo distribution. When approaching an ammo crate, always change to the weapon that's got less ammo, because otherwise you'll waste it on maxing out the ammo of a weapon that's already good. Also remember that the ammo packs you get from enemies will usually regen the ammo for the weapon you killed them with, so you should try to use the weapon you've got little ammo for, specifically to restock your ammo for it. Here's a list of Mutations I always go for first when playing each character. But, this is just my playstyle. If you find that it doesn't fit you, don't stay close to my word and look at what you're good and bad at. Also, you WILL have to pick something else when these won't be availible to you. So get used to changing your playstyle to unorthodox Mutation combos. But, if you get Patience with bad Mutation choices, it's sometimes best to wait for something better. Fish: Throne Butt, Gamma Guts, Extra Feet, Trigger Fingers, Back Muscle Crystal: Rhino Skin... and that's it. Maybe Sharp Teeth? But generally, her playstyle doesn't lend itself to a lot of synergies. Oh, but don't get Throne Butt, it sucks. Eyes: Throne Butt, Gamma Guts, Long Arms, Boiling Veins, Euphoria Melting: Boiling Veins, Last Wish, Rhino Skin, Throne Butt, Impact Wrists, and if you wanna play more defensively, Euphoria, Extra Feet and Hammerhead Plant: Extra Feet (just so that you don't get whiplash when dealing with the caves). I don't usually play Plant so I dunno. Y.V: All the ammo-boosting Mutations, Throne Butt (best used late-game), Trigger Fingers Steroids: All ammo-boosting Mutations and Throne Butt, Back Muscle, Gamma Guts, Last Wish Robot: Every weapon-related Mutation and Heavy Heart as soon as you get it, Back Muscle and Throne Butt Chicken: Chicken sucks, don't play her. Rebel: Second Stomach(very useful!), Stress, Bloodlust, Rhino Skin, Rabbit Paw, Sharp Teeth(you can trigger it with your special!), Throne Butt Horror: Haven't played him a whole lot. But, Plutonium Hunger is a must, and Throne Butt seems useful. Rouge: Haven't played her a lot either, but Boiling Veins would probably protect her from her own airstrike.
