Andrew and I head out on day 2 and try to turn up a bear, only to find a pair of moose and a few deer, along with some unwanted guests. I head out the following week solo again and luck starts to turn, as I harvest a beautiful British Columbia black bear to notch my first tag of 2024.

Blacktail Deer Hunting BC - Ghosts Do Exist!

I focused almost all of the 2023 fall season on this one mountain just to catch a glimpse of the Grey Ghost, and luck finally caught up to me when the weather gods decided to dump just enough snow at the top for me to cut this lone track. After a few hours I was able to catch up to see who it was I was in pursuit of.
Blacktail Deer Hunting BC - Quest for the "Grey Ghost"

I hit the local hills in search of the elusive coastal blacktail deer, by far the hardest deer I've ever hunted. With a low deer population and little to no rut activity in this particular area, seeing just one is almost non existent.

There's something to be said about hunting Mule Deer in the early season. I set out on my first deer hunt of 2023 and was fortunate enough to get a second chance at this buck after watching him run away into the timber the evening before. My rifle setup : Browning X-Bolt Hell's Canyon Speed Caliber : 30-06 Scope : Leupold VX-5HD 2-10x42 Load : Custom Handloaded 150gr Speer BTSP

Great hunt
Good job
Good job man, good work. I run the Hell's Canyon Long Range in 300 PRC. Great rifles. Greetings from Alberta 🙋
Great hunt
Nice and stormy day, good job in the jungle!
Another excellent video good work 👍
nice filming well done. are you on the island
I am in from the Lower Mainland.
Good one
Good job. I know thats some steep terrain and its a real pain carrying a rifle and film equipment with a full loadout in blowdown forest. Always have along the Katoolas micro spikes. Im going to check out more of the channel.
Spikes and trekking poles are a must. Thank you for watching.
How do you find that bullet for meat damage? Good eyes to spot him.
Excellent job man. Just seeing these ghosts in the timber is an accomplishment but capturing a shot on film is next level. Well done. How close was he for the shot ?
Thanks! He was definitely less than 100, I'm gonna guess probably 70-80 yards tops.
How do you carry your rifle? What sling?
I have rigged up a backpack strap and rifle butt holder to my pack, similar setup to the Kifaru Universal Gun Bearer. My sling stays in my pack until I need to drop everything and take just the rifle. Still waiting to get the Kifaru.
lil safety tip. don't rest gun on log which you're proceeding to jiggle/move, it was making me nervous lol. noice buck though!!
what a monster buck man, well done! what region in BC?
Region 8!
Love to see it, congrats! Beautiful country and a well-earned buck.
Congrats! I'm curious how you manage to keep the blood out of your pack when you're hauling the meat out. Do you wrap the breathable bags in garbage bags?
Its almost unavoidable to keep blood off the pack but I do try to minimize it by putting over a garbage bag or two. A good pack with a load shelf is a must for long hauls.
Holy what a Beauty! Congratulations, great video! thanks for sharing
Dude don’t advertise this stuff. You will end up ruining your own spot. It’s not worth the views.
Incredible buck, wow. Great work!!
Cool vid. Thanks for sharing. Looks like a nice area. Much success in that kind of terrain? How long have you been hunting there?
Baby buck need bigger buck
what a stud, congrats on the harvest!
Wow that’s exciting and great memories for u every time u look at those horns mounted on the wall in ur house
There's no need to be rattling. In my experience, if mule deer are in heat, you'll find the bucks with a group of does. Almost like a bulk elk would
This was pre-rut late October. No deer in heat yet but it brings in curious bucks.
Nice harvest yo. Goodshit
Wanker
Good job A!! haha! meat in the freezer for 3 something years!
Congratulations
Awesome congratulations!
Good job 👍
Right California its illegal to take spike.
@panhiamoua2726 - you clearly didn’t read the title of this. If you’ve watch his videos. He’s from British Columbia, Canada.
Why you guys shot the spikes Not even points yet Which state are you living in It looked like in California but California is not legal to shoot spikes $3000 fine or 3 months in jail and 3 years hunting license banned
We are from British Columbia, Canada.
@hmoobmeskasvajchannel4477 You clearly didn’t read the video title, It says “BC” not California. Do not speculate that it’s cali the terrain is definitely different. Cali is a desert.
the title did say BC.
That will be good eating!!
Nice one, I am pretty sure I saw you up in Placer Mountain opening day this season. Nice to see it worked out after all with the nice buck in the last video.
@franks5326 Yes! I was up there opening day. I only saw a few trucks that day and stopped to talk to one, thanks for checking out the channel!
Which state are you living in? It looked like in California But in California is not legal to shoot spikes
@@hmoobmeskasvajchannel4477 they are west coast Canada not Cali
How is the placer mountain area for hunting? I’ve always wanted to check out that area but wasn’t sure if it was over run with the Brolowna/ 604 hunters?
@@hmoobmeskasvajchannel4477 This is in British Colombia, Canada.
11:58 Wtf is the correct word. Lol
Awesome hunt. Have yet to see a buck in region 2. Does the costal black tail taste and different than muleys?
Blacktail and muley I find are very similar.
Awesome buck, congrats. I got a really nice 4x4 muley at the end of September in region 8. Could not have been happier. Gotta love BC
Beautiful beautiful buck!! Great job
You definitely earned that one excellent video thanks for sharing
What a beautiful spot and one absolute stomper of a buck. Congrats!
Hey, started watching your posts, you have some great content, but i think it could be better with a go pro or something. watched 3 videos posted without the action shot. great deer and bear vids.
@@rossblack8071 agreed
That thing is a giant.! Luck is when preparation meets opportunity, and you had both my friend, awesome!!
Way to get it done! Totally awesome buck. How wide is he? How far did you have to pack him? Congrats.
I commented before watching the end of the video.......euro mount?
@brucerobson8341 full shoulder mount! Outside spread measured 33inches.
Great job guy.
What a Monster! Great Job!
Beast of a mule deer brother! I need to come up and hunt with you guys one of these years! -Chuethou
Awesome video and amazing buck! Congratulations! Followed.
Awesome buck man!! Congrats..Gotta love a big DIY mule deer. Well done!
nice buck.. massive antler for a mule deer. just FYI didnt see you put on any orange, when carrying that deer head, make sure to put on some orange in case someone else think u are a deer walking.
@@tyyangyang6475 Thanks, hunter orange is not required in British Columbia.
@@CheensOutdoorAdventures its not required in most place, but its just for safety. There's a lot of folks out there who will pull the trigger just seeing the antler. Not everyone is a responsible hunter.
