Alexander McQueen, The Early Years - Part 1
Hey y’all!
Sorry, it’s been a bit of a month, well it's been a rough few months but that's besides the point. I had a few video issues, which I apologize for, my camera was really blurring me out. I tried to fix it as best I could but besides that... I’ve spent literal days (plural) trying to upload this video to youtube so the fact that you are even watching it, in December, is a miracle. But we’re soooooooooooo back!!!!!
If you are new here, my name is Lollie and I make youtube videos on fashion designers - talking about their lives and their work; and I’m excited to be back today. When I started this channel, I made a promise to myself that to celebrate a year on RUclips I would talk a...

Ello Babes!!! Y'all ready for Part 2!?! I've decided to drop it alongside Part 1, mostly because I'm behind on editing and life, in general, that's my own problem. We left off Part 1 with the introduction of PUNK and the Sex Pistols... and today, we are going to pick up right where I left us. Talking about the formation of the Sex Pistols and the punk movement that took London by storm. So let'...

Betsey Johnson is one of the whackiest and non-conformal fashion designers in existence today. She has been a part of the fashion industry since the 60s and has spoken to women of every generation for decades through her work. She has dressed almost every famous female celebrity alive. Her work is truly authentic and creative, she doesn't follow trends, she doesn't follow anyone. She might be 8...

Oh I'm so glad you loved it! Anna sui is a dream.
Hi Lollie. Have now watched Parts 1-4 of your VW videos, and want to congratulate you on them. I really liked the way you balanced all the media you used with your own views. Well done - they're a really goo addition to all the things I've watched about her life. X
Thanks so much! 😊 I'm so glad you enjoyed them. I absolutely have more coming out soon.
Really enjoying these, Lollie - thank you so much for the skill and effort you have put in. Particularly like that you don't just totally fan-worship everything that was said or produced. I ❤🤎👌Viv but you are right to be objective, as she wasn't always clear-thinking in her choices, esp. when influenced by MMcL. Great job on the vids - I'm just starting this Part 3, where she releases herself from MM's influence :) X
totally! I think it's very important to look at the designer, as a whole person. their ups and downs. their faults and their triumphs. It really means a lot to me that you watched them all :)
Thank you you are brilliant!!!!!😎😍😀
This is a goated series
Would seem that Vivienne liked to gild the lily.
Just discovered you! And I am so excited to watch all of your vids!👏🎉
Kudos to you! This is the most accurate and detailed documentary on VW's life and legacy. You included rare photos and footage I'd never seen before. Thank you :) Yes, Malcolm appeared to be a real self-indulgent douche. Looking forward to the concluding segments of your effort!
yes I did my best! and if you are interested I included all my sources and video links in a google doc in the description.
live the all american dream?
John Lindon?
"Punk is Conservative " - Johnny Ramone. Punk/Anarchy is as far-right as it gets - you're a marxist.
I remember the first time I saw commercially-made clothes featuring the anarchy symbol in Zara stores. My immediate thought was: "Bloody Vivienne!" Despite my grumpiness, it's undeniable that both Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren have had a profound impact on punk culture, influencing the global music and fashion scenes - and as that, this is a great video, thanks for putting it together - looking forward to watching the next parts.
punk has definitely been commercialized, washed down and given this consumable exterior. And I think it's hard for many to see that while Vivienne and Malcolm did so much for the movement they are at the same time responsible for its commercialization. But thank you for the comment - I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

Westwood is commercial punk. FashionPunk. Consumerism. Nothing to do DIY and anarchy in practice.(think where her clothes were made, what fabrics, quality, models, where fabrics are from, who she employs, not so punk after all, quite norm fashionista) Westwood thinks that punk is style not lifestyle, ideology. From England is similar persons than her, Banxy example who takes money from defending example refugee rights. And is extreme rich, become rich from others suffering. Fashion and fascism never ever will go apart, intimate and private lives are controlled and dictated. actually Fashion is easy solution when you don't wanna think what you wear and why, you just follow leader, imitate images, content is numb, or subjective. Selfishness. Compare army and ready made solutions, fashion army at street, violent and harmful. Not directly violent but buy violence, violent for their clothing, ordering it, and all psychological symptoms what fashion causes. Vivianne Westwood is down in hell!!!!

From England is similar persons than her, Banxy example who takes money from defending example refugee rights. And is extreme rich, become rich from others suffering. Didn't stop when things went commercial. Cops, nurses, people inside state do same, work for money not for ideology, some of them are but still taking money from it. Westwood didn't want to change anything but earn money, far from anarchy what i think is anarchism not equal to capitalism or monarchism what Westwood was intervened. Not so seriously taken from punk history view.
I totally see where you are coming from and I agree!! I think McLaren/Westwood are to blame for the commercialization of the movement but I think it's hard to deny her role in the movement - Her reach in it is undeniable. She created some truly iconic and memorable punk fashions, stolen off the ideas of others, but iconic nonetheless. However, she did fail to grasp the true meaning of punk and what it means to be a punk. And actually if you are interested, I will talk about this a lot more, including my frustrations with her, in parts 3 and 4 so you should definitely come back to watch them. Because I get into her failed understanding of the movement and her somewhat 'performative' activism.
