Skibidi Toilet is a machinima web series of RUclips videos and shorts created by Alexey Gerasimov and uploaded on his RUclips channel DaFuq!?Boom!. Produced using Source Filmmaker, the series follows a fictional war between human-headed toilets and humanoid characters with electronic devices for heads. Since the first short was posted in February 2023, Skibidi Toilet has become viral as an internet meme across various social media platforms, particularly popularized by Generation Alpha. Many commentators saw the series as Generation Alpha's first foray into internet culture. Plot and characteristics The series depicts a conflict between singing human-headed toilets-the titular "Skibidi Toilets"-and humanoids with CCTV cameras, speakers, and televisions in place of their heads. The Skibidi Toilets, led by "G-Man" (canonically "G-Toilet"[1]), threaten humanity. To counter them, the Cameramen and Speakermen form an alliance. Each kind has one member that is much larger, termed "Titans". A Toilet parasite infects the Speaker Titan, leading it to turn to the Toilets' side. Later, TV-headed humanoids and their titan are introduced, and with their help, the Speaker Titan is broken free from mind control. The Titans convene to defeat the leader G-Toilet, and then the mastermind, Scientist Toilet, but initially are fooled by a decoy. After a strike mission, the Scientist Toilet is finally defeated, but only one member of the crew survives. The one remaining member meets a mysterious human seemingly involved in the creation of the toilets. Following the strike mission, the titans clash with the G-Toilet. It escapes, leaving the Camera and Speaker Titan severely damaged. Human survivors are discovered in the hideout. The "Astro Toilets"-a rogue splinter group arrive onto Earth, planning to destroy both the Skibidi Toilets and the alliance. The show contains references to video games, such as the character G-Man, whose name and likeness come from the Half-Life video game series. The Cameramen's oft-performed dances are from the battle royale game Fortnite.[2] Business Insider described the series as "an endless arms race as both the toilets and their foes [produce] stronger fighters".[3] Technology website Wired credited the largely dialogue-free nature of the show for removing language barriers and aiding in the show's global popularity.[4] Background and production Skibidi Toilet is produced by Alexey Gerasimov (Russian: Алексей Герасимов, born 1997 or 1998),[2] who is also known by his alias "Blugray", or the name of his RUclips channel, "DaFuq!?Boom!"[5][6] Since 2014, he has been learning animation on his own. He lives in the country of Georgia.[note 1] His channel has seen prior hits; his video I'M AT DIP accumulated over 45 million views by July 2023, for example.[5] The first episode was released on 7 February 2023 (UTC), with a 11 second runtime.[16] Every episode is produced using Source Filmmaker, a free Valve-published 3D computer graphics software, often used to create and edit clips and movies online.[8] Some assets used in the series are taken from video games such as Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source.[7] The Skibidi Toilet in the first episode, for example, features the head model of a Civilian (Male_07) from Half-Life 2 (pictured above).[17] An unlicensed[9] mashup of the songs "Give It to Me" by Timbaland[2] and "Dom Dom Yes Yes" by Bulgarian artist Biser King,[15] created by TikTok user @doombreaker03,[18] appears in each episode as the theme of the Skibidi Toilets.[2] In 2024, the two songs' label Universal Music Group has issued copyright takedowns on the full version of the mashup, resulting in some videos featuring the mashup to be taken down.[9] "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears is featured in some videos as the theme of the resistance forces.[3] The aforementioned mashup is not original; in 2022, Turkish @yasincengiz38 popularized the mashup with his videos of him dancing to the song.[13][8] TikTok user Paryss Bryanne parodied this meme, complementing it with her style of jerky acting with rapid cuts. Gerasimov cites her adaptation as one of the inspirations for Skibidi Toilet.[7] Gerasimov shared in a Forbes interview that another inspiration comes from his recurring nightmares of toilets.[4][19] Ultimately, Gerasimov said that Skibidi Toilet's backbone is the other machinima videos created using sandbox game Garry's Mod, which were popular in the late 2000s and number in thousands.[4] In the show's beginning, Gerasimov uploaded at least two videos weekly, and at times, even daily,[4] though the spacing between episodes has since been extended to improve quality.[11] Since RUclips's recommendation algorithm tend to prefer frequent uploaders, the initial upload schedule may have helped the show go viral.[16] As of January 2024, the series is reportedly being investigated by the Russian police for its alleged harm to children, following a report made by a Moscow resident.[11][20] In April 2024, the videos were presented to the legislative assembly of Saint Petersburg, Russia as demonstration in an annual children's safety report.[4] Reception and influence Popularity Monthly viewcount comparison from the Variety magazine.[16] Skibidi Toilet cosplayers during the Corso de Corsos [es] celebration of Cochabamba Skibidi Toilet's audience is predominantly among Generation Alpha, those born after the early 2010s. While the series does not appear on RUclips Kids, an app designed for children under the age of 13, it still enjoys popularity among elementary school students.[2] Some members of older generations have called the show brainrot,[21] while other internet users argued Generation Z had their share of "ridiculous" memes.[22] Skibidi Toilet has sparked its audience to create and post fanworks, such as games, fan fiction, and art,[2] as well as the Generation Alpha slang "skibidi", which has no established meaning.[23] The slang was integrated into a TikTok meme where words in song lyrics are swapped with various Gen Alpha slang to create a nonsensical result.[24] Fans have made analysis videos and comment their theories in the RUclips's comment section, expanding on the lore.[4] Skibidi Toilet games have been created in game platform Roblox, with the two largest games reaching millions monthly.[6] By November 2023, RUclips videos associated with Skibidi Toilet had accumulated over 65 billion views, while on the social media platform TikTok, the "Skibidi Toilet" hashtag went trending and garnered over 15.3 billion views. By December 2023, the channel DaFuq!?Boom! had amassed 37 million subscribers, experiencing rapid growth that, on occasion, had surpassed growth of MrBeast, the most subscribed channel on RUclips. The series has found its way into internet memes and Instagram videos. The Washington Post went as far as to call it "the biggest online phenomenon of the year".[2] According to Tubefilter rankings, by the end of April 2023, DaFuq!?Boom! entered the fifty most viewed RUclips channels in the United States, at 33rd place. By June, the channel had achieved a milestone of five billion views, making it the most viewed RUclips channel in the US during that month. The editor, Sam Gutelle, noted that previously, the channel existed largely under the radar, except for a few "animation diehards in the meme community".[25] The Daily Dot's offshoot publication Passionfruit suspected the popularity of the series was due to how the "designs combined a simple, cute style with more uncanny elements", citing other popular characters like Sans and Siren Head.[18] Skibidi Toilet has been referenced on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with a short parody animation depicting US President Joe Biden as a Skibidi Toilet, dubbed "Skibidi Biden". Kotaku called the joke "the worst thing Stephen Colbert's ever done".[26] Critical reception The lifestyle magazine Dazed characterized Skibidi Toilet as "frenetic, unpredictable, funny and at times genuinely unsettling."[8] Yahoo!'s In The Know compared the animation style to that of a mobile game, describing it as having "choppy movements and exaggerated facial expressions".[27] Cartoon Brew, an animation-focused website, stated that while Skibidi Toilet "may look rough around the edges compared to major studio fare [...] there is no question that Gerasimov is a filmmaker who understands pacing, camerawork, sound design, and how to tell a story."[5] Many publications highlighted a viral tweet in which user @AnimeSerbia called the series Generation Alpha's Slender Man.[8][7] Insider claimed the series exemplified the start of a new generation gaining prominence, using the relationship between millennials and Gen Z as an example,[28] a stance that Indy100 repeated, who commented that "[Gen Z] will be facing the same mocking and ridicule they dished out to Millennials".[10] News.com.au opined "[the series] is a timely reminder that Gen Alpha are on the horizon".[29]

Poaceae (/poʊˈeɪsi.iː, -ˌaɪ/), also called Gramineae (/ɡrəˈmɪni.iː, -ˌaɪ/), is a large and nearly ubiquitous family of monocotyledonous flowering plants commonly known as grasses. It includes the cereal grasses, bamboos, the grasses of natural grassland and species cultivated in lawns and pasture. The latter are commonly referred to collectively as grass. With around 780 genera and around 12,000 species,[4] the Poaceae is the fifth-largest plant family, following the Asteraceae, Orchidaceae, Fabaceae and Rubiaceae.[5] The Poaceae are the most economically important plant family, providing staple foods from domesticated cereal crops such as maize, wheat, rice, oats, barley, and millet for people and as feed for meat-producing animals. They provide, through direct human consumption, just over one-half (51%) of all dietary energy; rice provides 20%,[6] wheat supplies 20%, maize (corn) 5.5%, and other grains 6%.[citation needed] Some members of the Poaceae are used as building materials (bamboo, thatch, and straw); others can provide a source of biofuel, primarily via the conversion of maize to ethanol. Grasses have stems that are hollow except at the nodes and narrow alternate leaves borne in two ranks. The lower part of each leaf encloses the stem, forming a leaf-sheath. The leaf grows from the base of the blade, an adaptation allowing it to cope with frequent grazing. Grasslands such as savannah and prairie where grasses are dominant are estimated to constitute 40.5% of the land area of the Earth, excluding Greenland and Antarctica.[7] Grasses are also an important part of the vegetation in many other habitats, including wetlands, forests and tundra. Though they are commonly called "grasses", groups such as the seagrasses, rushes and sedges fall outside this family. The rushes and sedges are related to the Poaceae, being members of the order Poales, but the seagrasses are members of the order Alismatales. However, all of them belong to the monocot group of plants. Description Diagram of a typical lawn grass plant Diagram of a typical lawn grass plant Grasses may be annual or perennial herbs,[8]: 10  generally with the following characteristics (the image gallery can be used for reference): The stems of grasses, called culms, are usually cylindrical (more rarely flattened, but not 3-angled) and are hollow, plugged at the nodes, where the leaves are attached.[8][9] Grass leaves are nearly always alternate and distichous (in one plane), and have parallel veins.[8]: 11  Each leaf is differentiated into a lower sheath hugging the stem and a blade with entire (i.e., smooth) margins.[8]: 11  The leaf blades of many grasses are hardened with silica phytoliths, which discourage grazing animals; some, such as sword grass, are sharp enough to cut human skin. A membranous appendage or fringe of hairs called the ligule lies at the junction between sheath and blade, preventing water or insects from penetrating into the sheath.[8]: 11  Inflorecence scheme and floral diagram. 1 - glume, 2 - lemma, 3 - awn, 4 - palea, 5 - lodicules, 6 - stamens, 7 - ovary, 8 - styles. Flowers of Poaceae are characteristically arranged in spikelets, each having one or more florets.[8]: 12  The spikelets are further grouped into panicles or spikes. The part of the spikelet that bears the florets is called the rachilla. A spikelet consists of two (or sometimes fewer) bracts at the base, called glumes, followed by one or more florets.[8]: 13  A floret consists of the flower surrounded by two bracts, one external-the lemma-and one internal-the palea. The flowers are usually hermaphroditic-maize being an important exception-and mainly anemophilous or wind-pollinated, although insects occasionally play a role.[10] The perianth is reduced to two scales, called lodicules,[8]: 11  that expand and contract to spread the lemma and palea; these are generally interpreted to be modified sepals. The fruit of grasses is a caryopsis, in which the seed coat is fused to the fruit wall.[8]: 16  A tiller is a leafy shoot other than the first shoot produced from the seed.[8]: 11  Growth and development Grass flowers Grass blades grow at the base of the blade and not from elongated stem tips. This low growth point evolved in response to grazing animals and allows grasses to be grazed or mown regularly without severe damage to the plant.[11]: 113-114  Three general classifications of growth habit present in grasses: bunch-type (also called caespitose), stoloniferous, and rhizomatous.[12] The success of the grasses lies in part in their morphology and growth processes and in part in their physiological diversity. There are both C3 and C4 grasses, referring to the photosynthetic pathway for carbon fixation. The C4 grasses have a photosynthetic pathway, linked to specialized Kranz leaf anatomy, which allows for increased water use efficiency, rendering them better adapted to hot, arid environments.[13] The C3 grasses are referred to as "cool-season" grasses, while the C4 plants are considered "warm-season" grasses.[8]: 18-19  Annual cool-season - wheat, rye, annual bluegrass (annual meadowgrass, Poa annua), and oat Perennial cool-season - orchardgrass (cocksfoot, Dactylis glomerata), fescue (Festuca spp.), Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) Annual warm-season - maize, sudangrass, and pearl millet Perennial warm-season - big bluestem, Indiangrass, Bermudagrass and switchgrass. Although the C4 species are all in the PACMAD clade (see diagram below), it seems that various forms of C4 have arisen some twenty or more times, in various subfamilies or genera. In the Aristida genus for example, one species (A. longifolia) is C3 but the approximately 300 other species are C4. As another example, the whole tribe of Andropogoneae, which includes maize, sorghum, sugar cane, "Job's tears", and bluestem grasses, is C4.[14] Around 46 percent of grass species are C4 plants.[15] Taxonomy The name Poaceae was given by John Hendley Barnhart in 1895,[16]: 7  based on the tribe Poeae described in 1814 by Robert Brown, and the type genus Poa described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus. The term is derived from the Ancient Greek πόα (póa, "fodder"). Evolutionary history Grasses include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous period, and fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing phytoliths of a variety that include grasses that are related to modern rice and bamboo.[17] Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are currently the most widespread plant type; grass is a valuable source of food and energy for all sorts of wildlife. A cladogram shows subfamilies and approximate species numbers in brackets:[14] PACMAD clade Chloridoideae (1600) Danthonioideae (300) Micrairoideae (200) Arundinoideae (50) Panicoideae (3250) Aristidoideae (350) BOP clade Oryzoideae (110) Bambusoideae - bamboos (1450) Pooideae (3850) Puelioideae (11) Pharoideae (13) Anomochlooideae (4) Drawing of Anomochloa marantoidea, one of the most primitive living grass species Before 2005, fossil findings indicated that grasses evolved around 55 million years ago. USS Gyatt (DD-712/DDG-1/DDG-712) was a Gearing-class destroyer in service with the United States Navy. The ship was named for Edward Earl Gyatt, a United States Marine Corps private and Marine Raider who was killed during the Battle of Guadalcanal.[1] Laid down in 1944,[2] the destroyer was commissioned in 1945 and missed combat during the Second World War. In 1955, she was converted into a guided missile destroyer (DDG) and served as the first United States Navy destroyer to test onboard missile systems before she was decommissioned and sunk as a target on 11 June 1970. Namesake Edward Earl Gyatt was born on 4 September 1921[1] in Syracuse, New York. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 28 January 1942. Private Gyatt was serving with the 1st Marine Raider Battalion during the Battle of Tulagi, part of the initial landings of the Guadalcanal campaign. He went ashore on Tulagi on 7 August 1942 and Gyatt reported the approach of a Japanese counterattack approaching his advanced position that night. He remained at his post and inflicted heavy casualties on the Japanese force before he was killed by a hand grenade. Gyatt was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. The destroyer escort USS Gyatt (DE-550) was named for him, but construction was canceled in 1944 before it could be completed.[3] Service history Gyatt was built by the Federal Shipbuilding and Drydock Company in Kearny, New Jersey. She was sponsored by Hilda Morrell, Private Gyatt's mother, a member of the Gold Star Mothers.[2] Commissioning and early history After shakedown in the Caribbean, Gyatt reported to Norfolk, Virginia, for duties along the East Coast. In addition to local operations and training exercises, she participated in training operations with aircraft carriers in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Departing Norfolk on 24 January 1947, Gyatt sailed south to represent the United States at the inauguration of the new Uruguayan President Berres at Montevideo from 27 February to 6 March. Before returning to Norfolk on 21 March, she made goodwill visits to Rio de Janeiro and Port of Spain, Trinidad.[2] Gyatt sailed on 20 November 1947, to deploy with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean and returned to Norfolk on 2 March 1948. She participated in six subsequent deployments to Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. Other operations took her north from Norfolk to Nova Scotia and Iceland and south into the Caribbean Sea.[2]
