Pretty sure that's a knight, not a fighter. I mean yeah, sure, you could argue that knights are just more specialized fighters, but if I had to describe the differences between a fighter and a knight, I'd say that a fighter wears somewhat plain and/or simple light to medium armor, uses simpler fighting methods (and likely isn't as skilled in fighting overall), and probably uses basic versions of weapons. I'd say that a knight is more of a battle-hardened veteran, wears fancier heavy armor that may or may not have a simple enchantment or two, uses complex tactics and fighting methods with practiced ease, has better quality weapons, may or may not carry a shield (which they'll know how to make good use of) & is overall more skilled and experienced in combat in general. I'd also say that neither a fighter nor a knight likely has much, if any, experience or combat ability against supernatural entities, such as ghosts, wraiths, the undead, etc. That's moreso the area of expertise of wizards, sorcerers, witches, warlocks, priests/priestesses, paladins, etc. TL;DR - A fighter is the most basic form of warrior & knights are combat-hardened veteran warriors who know more & better tactics/fighting methods. Neither are very well suited for combat against the supernatural, in general.

What does the most damage in D&D? The answers: meteors, balls of fire, lazer of pure radiant, powerful smites, sneak attacks. The REAL answer: Swinging a greatsword 8 times in 6 seconds.

So, one thing I like to do in my D&D campaigns is give martials more options and creativity in how they fight. Basically, I give them what I call combat actions which restore at the start of their turn. These actions can be used to do any number of things that they can think of that don’t involve magic.

Party: "He's disarmed!" Lvl 20 Pure Human Fighter: "I am the weapon"

It’s all fun and games until the fight pulls out action surge

Dm:"Ok fighter your up. I'm sorry you do how many extra attacks?!"

Honestly, I think people like human fighters because above all else, they are honest. There is no trickery, no underhanded tools, no bullshit magic, no ridiculous power boosts, just you, a sword, and the will to use it.

What class do you think he would fall into? Obviously, this is Skyrim. But if this was DND what class would he be? I'd wager Cavalier, as Cavaliers are good with opportunity attacks and can easily fight off multiple foes at once. Though battle Master works just as well.

Classes with inherent versatility don’t force players to be creative. The best and coolest characters I played with were mostly martial, they would cut down chandeliers, use charcoal to mark a maze, use a shard glass to reflect light past a corner and if the dm allowed it look around the corner, uses sticks to barricade doors, sand to blind enemies etc. Meanwhile the caster: “I have a spell for this🤓”

Them: "Fighters are boring" Me: "You're just not a good director" Love me the fighters, describe what your intent is with your attacks go for goals not random damage! Hit them where it hurts! (If you struggle making martials interesting, but it's easier with casters remember; they have to do something with visual effect to make their spells happen, bring that to the melee)

If you’re Dude With Sword, you gotta be pretty fucking lethal with a sword to make it to level 20

Hmmm, how about this: A barbarian learns the way of the sword, and his natural brawn and athleticism from living a wilder life had given him an edge over the decadent, unfit knights that often lazed around.

Coming back a year later, One D&D made fighters x10 better and I'm all for it
