Do you spray with matte first before lining and weathering?
Not lining, no. I usually do all of that when the pieces are still on the runners. Weathering I usually do because the plastic is so slick without it that it just comes off if you accidentally touch it 👍
@@OtterpunkTV Thank you!
Yes, someone else who remembers Zoids! Super cool channel, man. I'll have go watch the shadow fox one next.
Thanks so much! I watched so many of your videos yesterday trying to learn Planet Zoo haha. They're really good 😁
Just found your channel, it's totally a vibe bro. Please keep the content up I can't wait for more videos!~
Thanks so much! I'm slow but I'm always working on something haha. Hoping to do it full time someday 😁
You need to do tik toks on this it will blow up I hear
I might try it. People say that's probably the best way to build an audience right now.
Always glad to see this chan update. Iron Kong when? 😂
Haha he's so expensive 😂 Next one will be the biggest yet though!
I just got the Fire Fox variant, it is my first Zoid to build.
The Fire Fox is an awesome one. Good luck with it!
@@OtterpunkTV thank you, I have done a small handful of Gunpla (like 5) so I look forward to seeing how Zoids does it.
Ah, cool. You should be fine then. They're about comparable to a Master Grade.
I'm loving the Zoids series. Keep it up, man!
Thanks so much! I have a bigger one but still I'm trying to figure out how to best go about recording it haha
Cool channel. Love the aesthetic.
Thanks a ton! Appreciate you stopping by
I've been thinking of getting into Gunpla and ran across the Zoids models as well. At 2:48, you express some confusion about the orange 'polycaps' and I think I have the answer for you. When I was a kid in the 80's (in the US) my dad bought some of the Zoids 'toys' that were being sold in the US. These were larger toys that you would piece together, similar to Technics Lego. Those caps were used to hold the pieces together instead of using glue. They were a fairly firm rubber that would slide on to a peg that was just a little too big for the hole. You had to apply pressure to force the cap onto the peg, and since it was rubber, it would just squeeze down on the peg, and keep the parts together. These models were motorized using a wind up mechanism for the smaller kits and the larger ones would have battery powered motors. You could end up using dozens of them on smaller kits, or probably close to a hundred of them on the large brontosaurus toy they made. I hope that helps :)
Ooh ok. So it sounds like they were a functional part that has stuck around as just part of their design now. Appreciate it!
High glossy inner frame with a light grey panel liner for that mechanical detail. Matt top coat ontop of armor~ 💪
That would look pretty rad I think
Which is the best website to buy zoids from
Amazon has quite a few, I have a link to that in the description. Big Bad Toy store is also really good, got a few things from there before. Hobby Link Japan is my choice to import zoids that maybe aren't available here yet. Shipping is expensive there though 😁
I remember first being introduced to Zoids when my older brother had an early 1981 "Elephantus," (which was originally unnamed.) Transformers (and Zoids,) were always special to me as that early taste of "Japanese cool" in the U.S. before anime/manga etc were much more accessible. While we didn't have the anime, we only had the brief box blurbs. (The UK though had a comic book featuring early work by Grant Morrison!)
That's so cool. I got into it around 2001 when Toonami was showing the anime but I was too young to build the models. There's something about Zoids that really makes you a life-long fan 😁
I love this model. I spent 3 hour slap chopping it just because it was so satisfying.
Definitely one of my favorite minis. Would love to see pics of yours when you get it done!
Great video. Confused as to why it doesn't have more views.
Appreciate it!
I love this, simple and to the point and it looks great! I will be using a scheme similar to this with my Mordheim warband! ❤
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it ^^
Great vid and thanks for the tips! Just got the HMM Blade Liger AB and the HMM Geno Breaker reissues and will be building those bad boys soon. I probably should have gotten smaller kits since I’m a novice at model kits, but I really wanted two of the most iconic Zoids to display in my room.
No problem! Just take your time with stuff and you should be fine. Instructions can be kinda dense but it's a fun challenge. Good luck!
If anyone wants to see other Skaven clans in this style of vid let me know which one!
Pestilens!!
There was that recent Underworlds warband of Pestilens iirc 🤔
I just finished the command wolf. I don't paint, I only use the fundamental markers/ paint pens and I think it turned out amazing
Great work! That'll be the next video 😄
What glue do u recommend everything I have tried just melts even Tamiya cement
So I use Tamiya extra thin cement glue or Testors liquid cement in the black bottle. These are plastic glues which are meant to melt two pieces of plastic together, which you can then sand to a nice finish. If you don't like the melting you could just go for normal super glue, I use Loctite's gel control for resin models. I would always recommend using plastic glue for these myself, but maybe try super glue out on a cheap gunpla and see what you think of it. Good luck!
dope video
Thanks! You do great builds yourself.
otter rock
Couldn't you take the gold pieces to like Lowe's or home Depot and have them do a special color match but in a test bottle so you technically don't have to pay for it?
You could try that. Not sure how house paint would work on models but I imagine it'd be fine for tiny areas like that 🤔
You don't actually need glue for these kits just don't rush it, but it helps in stabilising it.
I think this or a blade liger would be pretty rough without gluing some things. A lot of the newer stuff like the Shadow Fox definitely is fine without it, yeah.
They look really nice and thanks for the tips!
Thank you!
So on the cheap old Hasbro zoids model kits, does anyone know how to get the stickers to blend on the body more? Like that getting rid of the translucent haze on them?
Not sure what haze you are referring to exactly, but you might wanna try Micro Sol and Micro Set. I talk about them in my next Zoids vid but it's supposed to make it look like the decals are painted on rather than just stickers.
@@OtterpunkTV that sounds exactly like what I need. And yeah the decals are just weird in that the backing is more like translucent scotch tape instead of transparent. The models I'm talking about are the old toys from the early 2000s when new century debuted. They just look terrible and very much like the stickers that the are. Obviously nowhere near the same grade as kotobukiya (and they're wind up toys on top of it) but hopefully I'll be able to at least make the decals on them look like what you're talking about
Hmm, I see the issue 🤔 Good luck, if nothing else you could always find some waterslides for them
Are there any guides out there that let you know where all the decals go?
Uh, not that I know of. I just try to look at the box and fill in the blanks. If you are building a Gun Sniper here's where I put mine: twitter.com/OtterpunkTV/status/1477303540942983169?t=HQcwSkUnkD298hV8YdVhTw&s=19
@@OtterpunkTV darn I figured as much :/ And awesome content and editing sir🙏

Thanks for all the comments, Kevin! Appreciate the support.
@@OtterpunkTV Thanks for making the content 🎃👻
Another well presented video and nice paint job..
Very cool model, nice job..
Cool model..
Beautiful work.. I enjoy your videos.
Freaky.. 👍🖖
Beautiful work. I just started the Lightning Saix Marking Plus version. I've been using hose Tamiya weathering kits for a long time. You can add some amazing detail with minimal effort. I avoided Zoids kits for a long time. It seemed like most reviews I watched made it sound like they weren't the best kits, there were a lot of loose parts and the builders had to resort to gluing . The first thing I do when I start a kit is review the manual and make sure I'm aware of any special instructions etc. I have a translator app on my phone that uses the camera to convert the text. I immediately came across a section explaining that while the model is mainly press fit, it's strongly suggested that certain parts be glued. I noticed you mentioned this in your Beginners guide video. I with I had seen that one first. Excellent job with that as well! It seems a lot of people disregard the manual completely then complain when they run into trouble 🤣🤣
Thanks, Trüe Brit! The Lightning Saix has been on my list for a while. And yeah, they can be a bit tricky when compared to a Gunpla of similar size, but the cool factor is worth the extra effort imo. The translator app is a good idea. Working on another Zoids vid now and I'll be sure to mention your comment. Hopefully that'll help more people.
Such a awesome paint Job, love your video style to :)
Thank you very much!
Not to encourage you to seek bankruptcy, but I would love to see what you could do to one of the bigger zoids, like the iron kong marking version! Amazing talent and information made for a great video, comrade!
Haha, thanks Dakitty! I plan on doing a big one eventually. I have the Great Saber and he's slightly bigger. I'll probably get to him after a command wolf video then maybe look at one of the huge ones and a liger. Lots to do 😄
I might use your skin recipe for mine tbh it looked cool *also u put a lot of work into your editing which was really awesome of you
Appreciate it! It's kinda convoluted but I think it's worth trying at least haha
Zelda! No!!! 😅
It's a constant struggle 😆
@@OtterpunkTV At least it wasn't when the paint was drying 🤦
Haha, just glad she didn't land directly on it and break something 😅
@@OtterpunkTV Defo a big plus!
Nice job. Looks good 🖖
Trying out a slightly different format where it's less of a "How-To" video and more chill with some extra animation work done. Hope you enjoy it!
The kit is sick but the production quality and vibe of this video matches it
Thank you!
Zoids is like a drug 2 me Once i get back into them i buy like 4 models 🥲 Now here i am addicted 2 it again
I know that feeling for sure!
I actually only knew about zoids and was not at all familiar with gunpla. After finding out about gunpla I just don't see why they are so much more popular. Aren't all gundams just robots of varying color and weapons? Where is the variety? Zoids we can have 4 legged, 2 legged, flying, crawling, etc, and anywhere from a simple small rev raptor or this gun sniper, to the classic medium sized liger type zoids, to the slightly bigger T-rex type zoids, to the plus size Iron Kong and Scorpion type zoids, and then of course the massive Gojulas, all to the same scale. So much more variety than the boring gundams. Now if only Kotobukiya will put out some more new century era zoids which are my favorites. I would kill for an HMM Elephander and Reynos!
I think bases for orstien and smough should anor londo themed but besides that you did an amazing job
I thought about that but didn't know how to make it look good 😅
