Hey guys welcome to Matt Tutorials. My name is Matt and This channel is all about how to get better at Maths. Weather you are desperate to get top grades at high school or college or simply just want to do better in your tests I cover pretty much every sub topic to do with Mathematics.
Everything from algebra, geometry, charts to calculus and trigonometry I will make videos on how to get you to the next level. The best way I do this is by going over examples. I have always found that the best way to learn! Starting off with basic examples and then moving on to the more difficult problems.
I'm sure most of you are wondering who I am so I'll give you a little more bout my background so you know that I'm the real deal. I've been studying Maths for a very long time so I know what mental blocks are and what the frustrations are.
I've studied Pure Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. I've since continued to teach students in and help them reach their goals and succeed!

Thanks a lot. I'm glad the video was helpful!
Q4 your answer is wrong. 15 is not between 8 and 14
Okay thanks. That's all been put right.
Fantastic video, currently year 11 sitting november mocks next week going through past ocr papers. Video really helped 👍
Thank you. I'm glad the video really helped!
I also beleibe wuestion 3 is wron g as it would be 6pm. 11+7=18 which in 12 hour format would be 6 pm. Sorry to be correcting you
Don't be sorry! That's all done. Thanks again.
isnt it 1.248 x 10^-2?
for question 2
@@earthcrafter3240 Yes that should be 1.248 x 10^-2. I'll put that right. Thanks for pointing that put.
Hey, you actually made a mistake on Question 2 with the standard form...
Thanks for pointing that out. I'll put that right!
Q12 why in a) we treat 204 as upper band because 205 rounds up to 210, while in b) we accept upper bands being 7.5 and 5.5, even tho they round to the nearest 8 and 6 respectively? Q20 a) the final square bracket should say 3/4 not 9/4
In Q12 part a since matches come in whole numbers, the next value up would be 205. But if you notice because it's a less than or equal to sign, if we were to put 205, it would be rounded up to 210. If it was strictly less than 205, we would have got away with putting 205. For part b, by definition upper bounds don't necessarily mean the highest possible values, it just means strictly less than 7.5 and 5.5 which therefore means these values would still be rounded down to 7 and 5. Hope that makes sense. I'll put question 20 right, that should say 3/4, thanks for pointing that out.
is this really 2024 gcse paper
It's just a predicted past paper. As soon as the real 2024 paper becomes available, I get it posted. Hope that helps.
VERY NICE EXPLANATION FOR MOST PART. PROBABAILITY EXPLANATION CAN BE4 MUCH CLEARER BY BEING SIMPLY PUT.
Thanks RonAdie!
is this the actual 2024 paper
It's just the predicted past paper. As soon as the real 2024 paper becomes available I get it posted. Hope that helps.
is this predicted or the actual thing?
This would just be the predicted paper. As soon as the actual paper becomes available I'll get it uploaded. Hope that helps.
Thanks alot ❤
You're welcome 😊
❤❤❤😊
Thank you!
Thank you so much
No problem at all. Any questions give me a shout!
Q 25 is wrong u put 19 into the calculator
I've just checked question 25. It's all correct. f=4 and n=21. If you substitute those values back into the table and work out the mean you should get a mean value of 5.5.
Is this paper's topic and type of questions nearly the same as the actual one?Or is it simply a prediction?😭😭😭
This paper is a prediction of the actual paper. As soon as the official June 2024 paper becomes available I'll get it posted. Hope this helps.
the first question answer was 37 not 38
Thanks for pointing that out. I'll get that put right.
@@matt-tutorialsno problem
For question 6, how do you know that the circle will touch the x axis if the radius is equal to or greater than 5?
If you look at the center (3, -5) the vertical distance from the center of the circle and the x-axis is 5. Hence if the radius was exactly 5 the circle would be just touching the x-axis and if it was greater than 5 then the circle would be overlapping the x-axis. Hope that helps.
thank you for a very helpful video
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
so is this the actual paper from this year's GCSEs?
This is just a predicted past paper. The actual paper this year isn't yet available.
Is this the actual cambridge maths exam 2024?
Yes this is the official paper 3.
Q23 part c you made a mistake in the inequalitie.
I've just got this corrected. Thank you.
why is 34-k squared? Should it not be squarerooted to find r since its r^2?
It should actually just say 34-k. Thanks for pointing that out! We are not required to work out r but since r^2 > 0 (because all square numbers are positive), and r^2 = 34 - k, that means 34-k must also be positive, hence 34-k > 0 and 34 > k which is the same as k < 34. Hope that helps!
Thanks!
I found this very helpful. The music playing in the background however is very unnecessary and makes it difficult at times to hear what your saying.
I'm glad you've found the video helpful. Drop me a comment if there's anything you're not sure about. I'll try and reduce the music volume :)
This is a restricted paper isn't it?
Hi Ken. I think it's only the June 2024 papers that are restricted. There's other youtube channels who have posted the same content from months ago. The papers are available online. As far as I'm aware all is in order.
im confused for question 6 why deos radius have to be less than 5
If the radius is equal to or greater than 5, the circle will then be touching the x-axis. But in the question, it says that the circle cannot touch the x-axis. Hope that helps.
@@matt-tutorials Ahh i get it thank you!!
at 9:15 how did you factorize it like that?
I've actually skipped a couple of important steps. The best thing to do is put the quartic in the form (x^2 + ax + b)(x^2 + cx + d). After you've multiplied out the brackets, you can then equate coefficients of x^3, x^2, x and the constant term and use simultaneous equations to work out the coefficients in terms of p. Hope that will be of help.
thank you for your video! It's really useful!
11:50, when p=3, x= 1 this isn't allowed as if x=1, then the sequence will be constant as identified by the earlier part. I do not understand why when p=-1, x=-1 is rejected. May I know why and how we can reject it?
8:50, may I know how you factorised the quartic equation to two quadratic equations?
Is it just by inspection?
@@Endy0620 Sorry for the delay. A couple of important steps have actually been missed. You need to put the quartic in the form (x^2 + ax + b)(x^2 + cx + d). After you've multiplied out the brackets, you can then equate coefficients of x^3, x^2, x and the constant term and use simultaneous equations to work out the coefficients in terms of p. That should do the job.
@@matt-tutorials thanks!
40:00 I still can't find out how you changed the expressions from the one with j to the one with k
19:20 for part ib, You used |w| < 1, then you added A to the right side to get |w| < 1 + A, how can we immediately say that |w| <= 1 + A??
Your video is really helpful!! I really appreciate your work! Thank you so much!:D
You're welcome. If you have any questions please let me know.

Splendid video!
Thank you so much
I am a retired accountant who dabbles in maths to keep the brain cells going ga-ga, so I looked at your video out of curiosity. It was indeed very well presented, so congrats on this. Given the reputation of STEP, I found this question surprisingly easy. Well, it had many parts to it and I could see how it may well take half an hour to write out the solution. The sort of problems I tend to hone my brain cells on are those asking for the proof of a single hard result, which might easily take well over half an hour to crack, such as those set for IMO competitors. Just one comment on, not indeed your presentation, but on your proof of the base case for the AM - GM inequality. Your proof came over more as a heuristic argument rather than a formal canonical proof, and I was a little surprised that you thought this would pass muster on a STEP exam. I myself would have have submitted the following script in an actual exam: |x + y|= |√(x + y)²| = √(x² + y² + 2xy) ≤ √(|x|² + |y|² + 2|x||y|) = √(|x| + |y|)² = |x| + |y|. (I am using √x, √y to denote the +ve values.

Hello, Sir! If I am not mistaken, We've got a mistake in the final line. The 'sin 2x' bit should be replaced with sin 2x all over 4. Thank you! All the best to you!!!
Yes, you are right, thanks for pointing that out :)
Please upload more step videos! I use this to help prepare extension work for my A Level students.
Thanks for your comment. It great to see that my videos are making a difference! :) Much appreciated!
