    Never put his chin on the cue.

    Great to see a footage of Claude Falkiner, even if in play for just few seconds. He was one of the first developing nursery cannons and, as stated in the video, Lindrum learnt a lot from him in his visit to Australia and basically developed this method to something devastating.

    Dreadful commentary, but what a genius Lindrum was. Being a left-hander, he reminded me of Jimmy White.

    I wish snooker to have a harder break (for example 3 reds to contact with cushions) and jump shots in rules. Would make the modern game more spectacular.

    • @castleanthrax1833
      @castleanthrax1833 3 месяца назад

      That would be terrible. I think the rules are fine, and the game is spectacular enough.

    It was quite funny when the Spurs players started clapping when Jack Warner went in off. I love watching Joe Davis play. It's hard to believe that he only played snooker because crowds got so bored watching him score thousands at billiards! Not bad for a guy with one eye.

    0:04 - That opening break off was not the same as in the immediate following wide shot. After the cut to wide angle, Davis is suddenly leaning on the table, the cue ball is travelling the other side of the blue and there's also a red that suddenly is flying all the way up to baulk. The shot of him breaking was a different break off than the one they cut to after the balls are moving. Anyone know why this was? The whole "match" looks staged for the film. Some absolutely bizarre shot selection going on too. Pullman didn't even look at an easy black and went for an incredibly difficult pink which gave virtually no good positional route for another red.

  • @sonic19751

    Table cloth and billiards balls were rougher than today, then. Making it easier.

    Lindrum was not a snooker player and this heavily edited film does him a great disservice as it makes him out to be a fraud.

    And after he potted the last red, he went straight to the colours (yellow, brown, green etc, and got that out of order) without potting the last chosen colour first. So, two foul shots there

    • @castleanthrax1833
      @castleanthrax1833 3 месяца назад

      That just means he potted a yellow after the last red, so the yellow should've been re-spotted, so yes, that was a foul, and potting the green off the browns spot was another foul, and the brown off the greens spot was a third foul... not to mention the cueball moving into a better position several times in between edits.

    In the 1960’s Joe did a Sat. afternoon tv trick shot. He put the cue ball on TOP of the cushion, bottom right. Sent the ball round the table on top of the cushions and finally dropped into the bottom right hand corner. PLEASE if anyone knows how he did it please tell this 81 year old.

    why do i find myself watching old snooker matches? they are far more interesting, esp with the quality of the tables and balls. Players had to really grind out some amazing shots to get pots and reactions

      Such is the nature of professional sport and technology. People keep wanting more and more precise equipment and also strive to do everything possible to get better to win more. Eventually, the entire sport gets flogged off to oil sheikh billionaires because the executives want to use their "product" to make themselves as rich as they possibly can, no-matter what the cost to the game itself.

    Like all good billiards players they can play a decent game of snooker. Lindrum mind was something else when it came to billiards mind In fact I think the only question ever asked was how many more cubes of chalk was he going to get through on this break.
