In most cases just having winter tires is more of a benefit than AWD/4WD in the snow and much more helpful when it comes to ice or very slippery conditions. Of course when you can't get going at all AWD/4WD gets you past that. I'm down in the states and rarely need AWD but our pretty steep drive makes for tough going so we'll have it (AWD) on our IONIQ 5.
I’ve seen 4WD vehicles unable to handle slippery surfaces because no matter, all wheels are slipping on the slippery surface, no grip.
More weight over the rear axle helps…I remember in the 80’s putting sandbags in the bed of a truck in the wintertime to aid in traction

I don’t know man. It made it but that stall at the top and the mini slide out at the end. Did he mean to stop near the top? To each their own but I’m in Canada and I’m going for the AWD. I’ve got kids so even if there is only one moment I need it, I want it for their sake.
Totally agree the Awd is the way to go just wanted to show how well the rear wheel drive model worked

@@odiethesledandcarguy9884 That demo of stopping in the middle of the snow covered driveway was perfect. It did much better than expected and with proper snow tires this would have absolutely no issues at all.
AWD is no guarantee of control as 100% depends on tire grip. AWD does nothing as to stopping. AWD does nothing as to sliding. Tires make a huge difference. All season tires are inferior to snow tires. The RWD Ioniq has Snow Mode that regulates power to wheels to minimize/prevent too much torque causing tires to lose grip.
The temperature seems to have been very low from the sound while he was walking. At these temperatures it is not slippery so that’s not a true comparison, he should do that around 0°C 😉
It was actually -2 Celsius that day so it was very slippery.
