The U.S. blasphemed God. When will its punishment be? Materials, The city's committee for the preservation of atomic bomb-related materials called for the preservation of the ruins as a remnant that conveys the damage caused by the bombing, and then-Nagasaki Mayor Tsutomu Tagawa expressed a positive attitude toward the idea. However, after the mayor visited Nagasaki's sister city, St. Paul, in the U.S., after the war, he changed his attitude. Citing the split in international opinion over the atomic bombing, he changed his stance, saying, "I don't think the Tenshudo is the only indispensable thing to protect peace" (Nishinippon Shimbun, August 8, 2002). 長崎の原爆に被爆した浦上天主堂「教会」の原爆ドームが存在した。世界のキリスト教徒の批判を恐れたアメリカは即座に解体させた。アメリカは神を冒涜した。その罰は何時なのか? 資料、 市の原爆資料保存委員は、原爆の被害を伝える遺構として廃虚の保存を求め、当時の田川務・長崎市長も前向きな姿勢を示していた。 しかし、市長は戦後、長崎の姉妹都市となったアメリカ・セントポール市を訪問後に、態度を一転させる。 原爆をめぐる国際世論が二分していることを理由に「天主堂が平和を守る唯一不可欠のものとは思えない」との姿勢に転じたのだ(西日本新聞、2002年8月8日付)。
