Hi! At 1:17 , is it a defence (or what would you do) if the bottom guy brings his left leg over your shoulder/head and uses his hands attacks an arm bar on your right arm? Or will you just bee too fast for that to happen ? Thanks.
Good question - Not speaking for professor Mike, but the threat would be relatively low due to your base, your elbow position, your posture, and the lapel grip.

Great breakdown of some of the wrestling techniques needed to successfully get up. Never understood people's overwhelming preference to pull back to inferior Guard rather than to try Stand back up to neutral.

For those interested, this is the video he is referencing: ruclips.net/video/IbJYFK8LYd4/видео.html The defense shown is actually just an escape from the position, an escape to turtle - not exactly a dominant position, but whatever. It looks alright, but it depends on your breaking the grip discussed around 2:20 om this video. With a tight grip, pinched knees, and elevated hips, the setup for this pass is not countered by the escape shown. Hypothetically, you could roll to turtle during that moments that you're getting passed, but imo that's really a trade-off more than a proper defense. In practice, there is a good chance that a solid opponent will take advantage of your scramble to take your back, leaving you worse-off than you'd be in side control. I think the pass in the video is solid, and is not at all rebutted by the escape.

This is my game, the guys that give me the most trouble are the ones that frame against my head or shoulder with both of their hands, and scoot their butt back away from me. I can follow, but as soon as they get their hips far enough that I lose my hand on the back of their hips, they're able to scoot a little further and recover guard or throw up a triangle. It's an especially effective defense in no-gi after a couple of rounds, when you're both so sweaty that it's hard for me to generate the friction necessary to keep him from scooting back
