Or else nobody gives a shit about this stuff. We all know the devil baby was supposedly born here and I want to see it! I love this documentary. Times have changed for the better, thankfully. Hopefully we'll still see improvements in human rights everywhere.

Local control of the public schools is truly ridiculous. The public schools should be run and financed by the state just like the universities. And furthermore, it is really unconstitutional in the state of Ohio to use local property taxes to finance the schools. State control would also permit the development of a wider variety of specialized secondary schools so that the less intellectually inclined would have a much wider variety of vocational schools to attend. It would also allow for more elementary programs to curtail the widespread corruption represented by the phenomenon of social promotion in which elementary teachers throw their hand up in despair over slower kids who cannot master their work so they just kick them upstairs so they’re not their problem anymore. The longer this goes on the further behind these kids fall until they end up in high schools with inadequate vocational programs for the less literate and wallow in the sloth of despond until they just drop out, having perhaps a third grade reading level when they get assigned to high school at the age of fourteen even though they’ve never been able to pass exams and only have perhaps a third grade reading level. And the average adult still only has a sixth grade reading level. You can’t park non-readers in one size fits all academic lecture sections and simply talk at them for years on end. And I do remember frequenting bars when a senior in high school because I’m 67 years old and we still had 3.2 beer in Ohio back in 1973, or in fact I graduate a semester early and started at Miami of Ohio in the Spring of ‘73 where as freshmen we could patronize bars for the 3.2 beer which I thought was a better arrangement than what currently exists with the asinine alcohol prohibition inflicted on college kids until they turn 21 at some point during their junior year. I taught or worked for schools for 8 years including parochial, public high school, Job Corps, community college, and the Benedictine monastery’s high school in Cleveland. The worst building was the parochial school where they had no locker rooms or even a real gymnasium for gym class. Also the teacher pay there was asinine. I got a 100% pay raise when I got fed up with the silly nuns and switched to the Cleveland public schools. But the majority of the city kids had IQs too low for regular secondary school but then if they weren’t motivated to sign up for vocational school they just get stuck flunking out of the general high school buildings and then frequently end up in prison since one quarter of them were already on probation even as high school kids. The city kids were also continually beating each other up in the corridors during class changes.

This video looks like it is from like the 90s. I wonder how many schools are left like that today? I'm sure some still exist but things have improved since then. Nonetheless, there's still work to be done when it comes to improving them.

Generational wealth is a good thing. Those advocating against are simply advocating against strong families. Those who do not practice it are not deserving of what those who do receive for their efforts.

Teachers haven't learned anything in 26 years. Still trying to make up for the home life that isn't and ignoring the damage and waste caused by kids that come from said nonexistent home life. The same people who argue that trickle down economics don't work are the same people who say that trickle down education will change those home lives. The cultural disconnect has created blinders that don't know how to say any other words besides "more money".

The good ole days of going to JB's bar for luch in high school 🏫 we never realized that this was not normal. We just took for granted that HS was scraping up enough money for a pop and candybar, fighting in allies, smoking walking down the street and playin g pool in a local bar that was not only serving students at that time; was the norm.

The rich school literally looks better than my college. I don't understand how people don't even get basic needs in one school, and get amazing opportunities in the other. Level out the playing field!!

My 4th grade teacher taught us about Jane Addams and Hull House. She has been one of my heroes ever since. Perhaps it’s time to revive the HH concept to help stem the ills of poverty, disease, homelessness and hopelessness. You can’t help people unless you live and/or work among them and get to know them, their hopes and fears. I learned that by teaching school in a low income school. My eyes were certainly opened! I was also able to see which local, state and Federal programs worked or failed based on the knowledge (or lack thereof) of people they were trying to help
