i actually run him in the 99 of my Kardur Doomscourge deck that's built as group hug/slug as well. A fling effect or temur battlerage i cast on him instead of my opponent's creature usually knocks out a player

I built a grim captain deck using glarb as the commander with 3 of each type and its been working great

This is a fun and informative take! I have a wubrg hidden commander grim captain deck and now I feel it needs a good update.

Im running the 72 insect meme deck with 28 lands, definitely not budget since i run all the fetch lands to deck think as much as possible. Very janky but u can consistently get 3 mana easily since this deck gets stronger as you mulligan and put more insects into your deck!

Wow kudos for actually going through the work to make a fair grim captain deck! When i first saw that card i was thinking of ways to do it but couldnt, i ended up finding everything tribal and its a auto include in there for me.

In standard, I've used the cycling dinosaurs (especially the black one) as a great tool. The landcycling ones, to be specific. The black stegosaur gives indestructible too on ETB for the grim captain and +2

i love these types of decks that focus on a theme and stick to it, especially hidden commander decks. The Grim Captain seems so fun and i have never heard of him. your videos are great keep it up !

Ive been building a budget hogaak self-mill list, and some of my favorite cards are Dogged Detective and Sanguine Spy. The detective is a body that can be repeatably used as sacrifice or discard fodder, and helps set up the top of the deck with Surveil, which seems like it would be good value for grist. The Spy is a sac outlet that Surveils (it’s been errata’d to be surveil), and when we have enough cards in our yard (which we almost always do) it actually acts as card draw. Best part is, they are fairly low on the curve, coming in at 2 and 3 mana respectively, and they are super cheap. I’d give them a shot!

I love Grist. A cool card I found for her that works as a great sac outlet and control piece is Thelonite Monk. Card is ancient and has since been errata'd to be an Insect Monk Cleric. The ability is "Tap, Sac a green creature: Target land becomes a forest." Card is under $1.

if youre running just creatures and lands, Umori Companion would be a good open too to not only reduce creature casting costs but if it dies its an additional creature into the graveyard and lets you use mana if youre flooded

Just got here, a couple months late but damn me. I'm about to make an Umbris decklist and what I got was a Faceless Devourer infinite cycle, another ETB that exiles target creature with shadow, since it has shadow as well just cloning the guy twice enables to infinite Umbris' triggers stopping ''at will'' with the shapeshifters ETB effects. All in together was a bit inconsistent but your vid shall help me close some ground until it's finished

Hey just subbed to your channel and your Umbris build is the 1st I’ve watched. Great work by the way and thank you for showing us what you did with him! I’ve been playing MTG for a year now and my 1st precon was Captain mostly because of the art style. Umbris has always drawn my attention and my deck for him was very standard as most are but I’ve been looking at it as an unfinished deck because I saw more potential in it but just didn’t know what to do. Then i finally realized that I wanted to do a flicker build then went on RUclips for more ideas then I found you.

Love the video, I also found great success with flickering Umbris, would you do a captain video next? I’ve been trying to build him for awhile but he always feels clunky or not impactful enough
