Welder of 10 years here. Great video appreciate the information, but could you touch base on the expenses of becoming a CWI? I feel like that's a big burden for most venturing to become an inspector, the cost. Also is the study material only available through AWS or borrowing old books from someone that's already completed the exam is feasible considering the edition of the book isn't too old? Lastly as for experience is a degree necessary? ive only been in the field no real engineering experience but i have an aptitude for learning welding related topics.

did you do the 1 week aws seminar before you took the test? or just raw dogged it

For the math questions do they provide the formulas and a chart for the conversion factors? I have been studying for month and I take part A 1/13 but idk if I can memorize all the conversion factors and formulas

Definitely the only thing I recommend too people is once you get good at understanding and answering part B questions I would say time yourself on every single quiz and make sure you’re answering questions within two minutes and 37 seconds of each question. I knew all my answers on part B, but the timer went a lot quicker than I thought and I would definitely recommend everyone get used to time practice quizzes on themselves for part B . I felt like I was answering questions super fast on part B when I took it , but by the end of it, I barely answered all the questions with enough time.

I took the CWI exam in 2000 with no prep course. Showed up and took all 3 parts in one day, and passed. In 2009 I did the same for my Part B recert. In 2018, I messed around and let it expire, so in Sep 2024 I took the prep course followed by Part B. The difficulty of the Part B exam blew me away. Way harder than the practice exams during the seminar (which I passed). I took A and C a couple weeks later at ProMetric. I passed Parts A and C pretty easily with time left over, and failed Part B. Retaking Part B in a couple weeks, and even though I’ve studied I’m still not super confident. Thanks for the videos!

My dude, I’m getting ready to start my next cert and it’s going to be CWI. Can I use the 2020 book?? Or will I have to use the new 2025 version ? A friend of mine was going to sell me his book and it had all his notes in it already, also I will definitely buy some of your courses if they can help me learn and pass them exams!! Thanks.

I’m Currently a NDT inspector looking forward to becoming a CWI. Great opportunities and better pay !

I took my test last month ,I have been welding all my life I am 53 but changing gears and crossing over to inspection work is easier said then done ! But this old goat is not giving up!! I was lucky enough to be able to pass the eye acuity test and qualified work hours I get one more chance (I took the seminar so I have 50 hours of training) but this next time I have to make it count!! Wish this old iron worker luck prayers needed!!

This is the kind of cwi that no one respects I have more time accumulated laid off as a real traveling pipe welder then this guys has under his hood

I take my test locally out of long beach in OCT, i have about three months to study a old welding technology study guide to get familiar with in the field. Unfortunately theres no budget to take off work for a seminar but im gonna do my best with what i have available. Great video, between flashcards, RUclips videos and practicing a old technology book i plan to pass 😎

I just took my part B in June 23 felt okay about it as I’m sure you understand it leaves you guessing. Then I passed part A on the 19th of this month and I’m currently practicing and practicing with my 1104. Haven’t scheduled it just yet until I feel a little more confident I’m actually NACE coating certified also and plan to actually come work with SCG. Is Mark who hired you? Do you know Corey or Miles? Congrats on your round 1 success

I purchased the AWS Pre Seminar today its 80 Hrs, as well as some flash cards. I do have a WIT book & all of the free PDFs off of AWS. I work for a steel erection company, they are sponsoring me as well. I'm a single mom & i feel an immense amount of pressure. I've been welding for 6 years. - however there's a lot I'm not familiar with as far as testing goes. Where did you purchase your UT Course? Sorry for the lengthy comment. Lol.
