Honey Rock Acres

Добавлен 28 июл 2022
We are first generation homesteaders. Our goal is to build a sustainable homestead, live a healthier lifestyle and grow closer as a family. Our purpose for this channel is to capture our progress, learning, mistakes and fun. Our goal is to show a realistic and honest account of trying to start a homestead with limited experience. Since we are starting out fresh, I hope our trial and error can be an example of things to try (or not try).
When It Rains It Pours
Thinks continue to be challenging and stuff keeps going south, but we are not laying down. Adapting with the changes is the most important part of homesteading.

How To Balance Working Full-time And Homesteading: Tips For Success
This is awesome, been trying to find the best way to make a shelter for my pigs but we're on a tight budget (because of said pigs 😂) thank you for sharing man!!
I have a 2015 Ford Explorer where I was getting that "Shutter". Transmission shop mechanic said that their shop was taking care of all the State Trooper, Sheriff, and local Fords with the same problem. He said $270.00+tax for something called ShutterFix. I know vehicles. I know you don't trash the original fluid. I asked what the process was. Drain the fluid and toss!!! ShutterFix and new fluid! Test drive and it was gone!!!!!!! OMG☺ Storm, Please look into that for me.
Oh dang, I'm late on that one!! lol
@@crazylifehomestead no worries. That was actually one of the things I tried. At first it seemed ok, but very quickly came back. I appreciate you trying to look out for me.
I like. I probably would have put thermostat further from fan air flow.
Nooice! 😎 STOC
Isn't butchering the end goal for all the pigs and not just the aggressive boar? Glad you are healing! I think he would have been butchered within a day if he had tried to kill me. I admire your attitude!
Yes. You are right they are primarily for growing out and butcher. Henry was a bit of an exception since he is our only boar. That is no longer the case though. The only reason things did not go down that day is because I got hurt. If I were physically able, I would have removed him that day to ensure the aggressive behavior is not present around my children. Thanks for the well wishes.
I'm glad for you that there is an improvement!! Some wind with this mic
Thanks for the feedback. As you probably know, figuring out all the AV and editing with new stuff is a little challenging.

Hey there, I just came across your channel. That was quite the pig adventure. I have a tendency to put things off for to long also.
@@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors Thanks. I appreciate that I'm not the only one. Those pigs always keep me on my toes.

@@stephenhines2795 Thanks!
Best of luck with Henry! Did you have to pick the last piggie up and carry him? Do the kids name the little ones? This is all more interesting than I could have envisioned! Thanks for sharing!!
I did end up having to carry the little one. The camera was not on when I finally got him close enough to grab. Henry has been good now that we got him moved.
They have named some chickens, but we have not named the little pigs. Also, you are welcome. I'm glad you enjoy it.

@@monaorange4485 you are very welcome!
Seems like your intent may have been to title this video "Assessing the damage", not "Accessing "
@@jackonthefarm5540 you are correct. I was in too much of a hurry when updating it. Thank you.
Sorry you have to go through that. But glad you are all ok. Curious where you moved from?. I know you live in TN but thinking you are a new arrival.
Thanks for the concern but after everything that happened in East TN and North Carolina, I have nothing at all to complain about. I am a Tennessee native. Grew up about 30 minutes from where we are now.
Great build. But i would of used full 2 by 4 for the roost boards. This is more conformable for them.
@honeyrockacreas, would you be willing to share a plan of your coops?
Unfortunately, I don't have plans for these coops. I did however make a video reviewing the construction and giving some basic measurements for it that could be helpful. I can make a more current video about that when I get a chance if you would like.
hey.. nice vid... can you please tell what are the max rated fan speed for them? i am setting a custom fan urve so need them
I really liked the name, it fits. Had an old dodge Cordova with the 318 in it. I think that was Mopar‘s best engine they ever made. Would love to have that again.
A name like that makes me want some chicken nuggets! So you think you could help an old buddy out with an organic supply for the main ingredient? 😂
Also " buying all the things" instead of sharing/share leasing/purchasing.
Too many dream of doing 'all the things' realistically those who suceed one or two things very well and connect with nearby people who do some of the other things well..then barter and build up slowly.connecting with each other allows the possibility to buy in bulk feed ,other items as needed once a " community" group can be established.
This is very true, and something I have been slowly picking up the pieces on. Finding and building those communities can be a real challenge.
postage stamp farms. homesteads are like 100 acres where people try to live off production.
The majority of homesteads are under 50acres,often 10 or less.
@@EmbracethechaosPortugal and what makes them different than just a home.
@victorhopper6774 most homes don't have space for some livestock,or larger food growing spaces, also less restrictions on what you are allowed to do I guess.
They’re being crapped on by the federal government that’s what’s going on with the farmers
Those are nice-looking coops
Thanks!
Agree with your hypotheses. Tripling interest rates on all debt is debilitating. Best we can do is hold on to the land and hopefully ride out the storm. Great talk.
Very true! I am hopeful that there are still a generation of farmers in my generation and the next that wish to take on the challenge.
You're spot on, buddy! I also hate to see so many schools doing away with AG programs. I think AG is definitely needed to help decrease the ignorance of the dangers in mass market foods. It also increases life skills and self - sufficiency. Support local farmers, folks. It'll help you live longer.
This is true. I am glad that my children's school actually recently added an AG program.
You could do the Christmas tree type trees, kind of place them out in the front toward kinda hides the greenhouse, but it looks very nice and your other gardener which would kind of help but there’s many different ideas to do and what it really comes down to is what you want and your wife wantnot what I want or anybody else wants
Thanks for the ideas. I still have some thinking to do on this one. But it won't happen over night either way. I have time still.
Why don’t you put the solar panels at the back under on the stand. and then run the wire around to where they can open door or window and then that window or door may be on a scheduled timer. A flow timer such as this one opens now let’s stare in our both of them open to pull through.
you got this! rooting for ya!
@@jtoot6391 Thanks! I appreciate the support!
You've got the deck angle theory figured out. As far as the top link goes, if it is too short, as your tractor crests an incline (or even small elevation changes in the field) and the front wheels begin to go downhill, your bushhog will elevate leaving a section of grass that is cut higher (or not at all) than the height you have it set at. Too much length in the top link and you will tend to scalp the top of the incline as the bushhog body bottoms out. You may have to play with that adjustment to get it just right.
Thank you for sharing!
I'm north of Nashville. Are you north or south?
@@grstew4 We are north. Cross Plains.
@@honeyrockacres How about that! We are neighbors! I'll be over in the morning for breakfast!
you both are blessed to have each other! Loved the slow pace of this video and hope to see you both working at those chores again soon.
Thank you so much! I really do appreciate the feedback.
Your little boy is adorable! That vivid red hair is just amazing! Seems like your hummingbird would get his buddies to come around.
Thanks! He loves joining me for the chores. That hair of his is as bright as it gets. We do sometimes get a group of humming birds. Seems like they come more when it cools off a bit.
You don’t know how much I need to do that also but I do get up in the mornings feed the chickens feed the dogs. Those are my morning chores.
It's so easy to get caught up in the routine and all the stuff you know has to be done. I find myself always stressed or thinking about what I still need to get done. I try to remind myself to slow down sometimes and actually enjoy the routines.
How well has the fan worked? What kind of temperatures have you had? Both the outdoor temperature and the temps inside the greenhouse with the fan working? Thanks for the installation video. I'll be setting up my own greenhouse soon. I have side windows, not roof vents. I want to build a cupola to hold a fan on the north side and a clock on the south side. The largest fan I'll be able to have is probably 14 inches. The GH itself is 9ft x 14 ft with a 9 ft peak on a hip roof shape. I'm hoping this will work well enough to keep my plants alive in summer. 91F to 98F is not at all unusual here in central Alabama in July and August.
You are welcome! I would say it has done pretty good. We get 90-100 temps frequently here as well. I keep the doors open on the hottest days and between that, the fan, and the 50% shade cloth, it manages to keep the temps within 10 degrees of the outside temp. If I leave the doors closed, it gets very warm still. Ideally, I would have put the fan up higher, and maybe get a larger fan, but that is what the budget could afford. Overall, I am very happy with how it does. I grew gigantic tomato plants and peppers in there this summer. Summary of my experience... Get the largest fan you can fit/afford, make sure you have good airflow either with vents down low or with open windows/doors, and don't be afraid to add a shade cloth through the hottest part of the year.
@@honeyrockacres Thank you for your reply. On the 10 degrees, is that usually 10 degrees hotter or lower? thanks again!
@@AquarelleArtist No problem. It's usually about 10 over the outside temp.
@@honeyrockacres Please accept my apologies for asking such a stoopid question! It hit me in the middle of the night. Of course it is over...it's a fan, not an air conditioner! (sheesh, I feel dumb!) However, along that line of thought, there is a commercial greenhouse near me that has a 'swamp cooler'. I've always heard that they only work in dry climates, but I can't imagine these farmers spending on something that would be useless. They don't sell to the public and I've never stopped there, but I may do so if I happen to see them there. Again, thanks for all your help.
@@AquarelleArtist No worries at all. I've done the same. Haha. I have seen those swamp coolers. They are pretty cool. We had one in our greenhouse in high school. There is another name for those that I can't think of.
Good afternoon. I really do like like the chicken coops
Hey! Good afternoon to you too! Thanks. I mostly love them. Just wish they were just a touch taller inside for the roosts.

This is great information. For reference, the computer I am working on in this video is a 2020 model.
And thanks for posting this video, very helpful.
You are welcome! I am very glad you found it helpful.
Do you have the part numbers or the links to the fans? On the Dell website, there is only one fan available. I'd like to buy both at the same time and replace both while I have the machine open.
Unfortunately I don't. I have gone back through my conversation with support and I even pulled them back out and I don't have record of the numbers. When replacing mine, I was working with tech support and they had them identified as "CPU Fan" and "GPU Fan". In my case, I just ended up having support mail them as a warranty replacement, so I never identified the part numbers. Even without warranty, you might be able to get their tech support to provide them.
