Amazing drums what a sound!
More here on the Paiste Stambul: www.cymbal.wiki/wiki/Paiste_Stambul#Stambul_NS12
Love the way you have those tuned. So musical.
Thank you for the Ajax video just got a pair thanks to your video
Vintage Slingerland snare for sure they dont make them like they used to
Great sound of a wonderful white flame finish Sonor Teardrop 6 ply beech shell set,' one of the best drums ever', thanks for sharing. I liked verry much the grooves you played', verry nice, congrats
Thanks.
I've got a set of Ludwig NS12 made by Paiste in their Switzerland Factory. 22" ride, 18" crash w/rivets, 16" crash and 15" Hi-Hats. I love them, but they are an acquired taste and not for everyone. They don't push the volume the way a B20 would and because of that I use them for practice cymbals. Someday I hope to work up the courage to leave my B20's at home and take the Ludwigs to a gig just to see the reaction I get.
Well, these are quite old cymbals, I don't take them to concerts either. But they are special. I've only ever used the Ajax 22 on stage... good rock ride. I collected them a long time ago, I don't buy NS12s anymore. Enough.
That Edgware snare's sound is fire! Is it a 5" or a 4"? That 20" crash ride sounds really nice too man, love the bell sound. I have an Ajax branded 15 inch cymbal from the late 50's to early 60's made out of the same ns12 alloy that came with a free kit, I suspect it used to be a hi hat top or medium to light bottom (about 772gr) or something and it sucks that I don't have the pair but the thing makes an awesome mini crash ride. Ns12 gets a bad rep but it sounds nice for certain sounds and styles i.m.o., let them keep the bad reputation ... means they'll stay affordable.
I think 5"
Sound great !
Great groove!
whats that overhead mic
GRUNDIG GDSM200 (aka SENNHEISER MDS1) vintage stereo mic hifi-wiki.com/index.php/Grundig_GDSM200
Are all 1960s zyn cymbals super zyns?
No, the Zyn cymbals are nickel silver alloy, and a much lower quality. Super Zyn-s a completely different category, B20 bronze. Later in the 70s came the heavier (less good-sounding) 5 star Super Zyns.
@@adamdemeter6725 gotcha getting some used from guitar center for cheap title is 1960s zyn but hoping they are the supers or atleast sound good.
Are all 1960s zyn cymbals super zyn cymbals?
Would you sell or trade any of those Zyn rides?
Is it normal for these to dent if crashed? I have a 20" Omel and its edges look like one of those zildjian blanks they sell
They will dent and ding of played to hard, go easy, they're sound is beautiful though
I love your cymbals let me know if they are for sale?
Still have my 404 & 2002 black label crashes. I'm glad l kept them.
I have a 22" Sonar branded ride that sounds nearly the same as the Ajax ride you have (maybe a bit more pingy). It is probably late 60's-early 70's make. It's got a smaller bell than the Ajax one. I got mine as part of my 1st drum kit as a youth.
I have the Beverley 8120, the 14x6,5" version of the cosmic 21. It sound better than the Supraphonic I have had.
Stambul NS12 were made from the early 50's to 1971 when Paiste switched to B8, Stambul's were replaced by the 505 in 1978.
Better than brass for sure, louder isnt it?
Sick beat. Love nickel silver cymbals but keep it a secret will ya
superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
SONOR destroys all ! !
I've owned a few Super Zyn and 5 Star Super Zyns, all generally wonderful cymbals... foolishly let them go to buy other cymbals that weren't really any better, just different. I'm intrigued by that 'early' The Super Zyn, that one would date back to the early 1950s...!
Would love to buy that 20" crash ir trade a 20" red label crash for it.
sorry, its not for sale ...
The drums AND cymbals sound damn-near perfect! :) A had an huge collection of Italian Tosco cymbals at one point, including some unobtainium "MM Linea" (hand-hammered) series. ALSO awesome cymbals!
Sabian made the Carmine Appice China out of NS12, to capitalize on it's trashy nature. I also own a Super Tyrko 20" ride that was NS12. Awesome-sounding cymbal! There's really no such thing as a BAD cymbal alloy. It all depends on whether it appeals to you or not, and fits the context of the music. Not everyone likes B20, or B8 either. Many years ago, I reviewed Paiste 101 Brass cymbals for Modern Drummer. While I wouldn't use them live, their dark character and reduced volume made them record real well, as "dead" cymbals usually do.
With touch of, good morning good morning 😉
Klingt mega!
Cool Comparison. What are the exaxt differences between the Champion and the Testdrops? Shells shouls be the same but lugs, hoops and bearing edges might differ (complete roundover vs. sharper immer cut?). Both Sound great though!
Sorry for the very late reply. Edges are the same on Champion and Teardrop.
Sounds nice Dirty-Dark-Trashy.. Love it ! AJAX ...
The Zyn sounds simalar .. The Paiste Super ..
And you played a cool Beat !
hey man, what is the difference between "super zyn", "5 stars zyn" and "Zyn"?
hi! (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymbal_manufacturers#Zyn,_Super_Zyn_&_5_Star_Super_Zyn) Zyn cymbals were introduced by Premier Percussion in 1950. They were marketed as an affordable instrument, with a priority of functionality over musical quality. They were made of nickel-silver alloy and could be purchased with Premier's Olympic-series drum kits. The professional-grade Super Zyn range followed in 1951, realised in B20 alloy. According to Cymbals Today (a contemporary promotional material published by Premier), these instruments were endorsed by a number of professional jazz drummers, such as Ray Ellington and Eric Delaney. The 5 Star Super Zyn range was announced in 1968, replacing the Super Zyn as Premier's professional-grade cymbal. Like their predecessors, these cymbals were also made of B20 alloy. However, their build was thicker and heavier - similar to the heavy-weight Super Zyns - reflecting contemporary trends in popular music, where denser cymbals were required to meet the increasing volume of amplified instruments in popular music.
Got the same one but then its called Winston DM-100
Lovely!
Love my suit of German made Paiste Stanoples. These sound great too!
Sweeeeeeeeet! Only seen these in the Premier catalogs until today
Never heard a 2002 24" crash and 16" ride before. Very nice! Have you thought about renting the cymbals to recording studios? Those would sound killer on some jazz and prog rock sessions 🤘
Thanks! I haven't thought about it yet. It is not typical to rent cymbals in Hungary... Drummers takes his own to the studio.
Sounds good!
Nice technique mate... very strangely like watching myself....as I do the little flicks to the left on the hats whilst riding the cymbals and I have my firecracker tuned way up high almost Timbale like... but yeah... solid as a rock yet loose... which I stole off of Clyde Stubblefield... haha. Great vid 👊😷👌
thanks :D
Beyer ribbon mic? Used on tom and floor Tom in machine head recorded by deep purple in grand hotel suisse whit rolling stone studio mobile , over head Neuman u 57 , shure on top head snare , Neumann on bottom., d112 on bass drum , another ribbon for ambient one near drums on soffit and one far drums
Those drums sound just fine to me. Lovely cymbals. I have a 5 Star Super Zyn ride . Fab rock ride, and with a Meinl cymbal tuner (effectively a magnet) it is the perfect jazz ride.
GREAT Comparison . i am pulled toward Teardrops . more overtones more color if you will . have you checked out the new Vintage Series ? How exactly did you use the H4n ? and how di you master it ? thanks , hope to hear back Adam !
Adam recalls that he used the internal mic on the H4n, with Ozone 7 plugin for some mastering. I actually owned a Vintage Series before getting some Phonics and Champions. The Teardrops are Adam's. We both recall feeling like the Teardrop and Champion were basically the same. There was very little difference to the naked ear. My Vintage Series was already gone by the time we did this, but they are also similar, as would be expected. I certainly felt like Champion is the Deal of the Century compared to either the Vintage Series or a proper vintage Teardrop, though most would agree that both are cooler and more stylish than the Champion. Fire away if we can help with anything else! Thanks for checking it out. Lots more good stuff on Adam's channel.
NS12 cymbals get so much hate online, why do they sound so hip to me?
Thay are beatyfull, but to many drummer are ignorant! I have so many of thay nickelsilver cymbals and are happy! I mix thay "cheap" ns12 cymbals (paiste stambul, zyn, krut, ajax and other) with old k's, super zyn, super formular 602 (pre 602) and 60s giant beat! All sound great and superb in context! Moste want old'k (jazz drummer) and other paiste 2002 (rock drummer) ...and the classic vintage avedis becouse thay famous, but less drummer look to his own sound and good old cymbals like unknown superb vintage drums as well! ...thats why! The nickelsilver sounds like new expensive "meinl" cymbals who create and serch neu cymbal sound! ...greetings :D
Awesome/creative setup!
What is that for a china? On right side? ...stambul 17" ? ...please let me know ;) ...thanks! And good work!!!!
Hi, 20" Paiste 2002 china type, 70s, black label. Thanks!
@@adamdemeter6725 thank you very much ;) !!! Nice cymbals!!! ...love also ns12 cymbals! ...please made more cymbal videos!, love it!!! ...btw. im interessted in super zyn! Would you maybe sale one or more to me??? Please let me know! Thanks!!!
@@nichtimmer9134 sorry, not for sale now... thanks.
@@adamdemeter6725 thanks :) ...no problem, think thay are keeper ;) ...the 18" early super zyn would be interested! Love it! ...btw. Nice teardrop ...i have a vintage 60s pre 67 kit in blue pearl with two floor (14x14 / 16x15) and two bass drums one for allround 20x14 and one for bebop 12x18 (original end extremly rare ;) ...like the 14x14 from 60s)
@@adamdemeter6725 meen premier!
Drums sound dead snare is good but the toms and kick too muffled
David Pfeifer Hm, I never use muffling... (my rehearsal room too small and muffled, dead.)
Adam Demeter Compressing mic maybe? I don’t either I love the ride open sound. Works with jazz and u can always add a moon tell if it’s rock cheers tho nice cymbals
@@davidpfeifer9489 perhaps you should listen on decent speakers? Just saying, due to me having a completely differnt impression here on my studio speakers ... cheers
no one asked u ugh... the drums sound great! love the playing too mate
Bro u tripping?? The kit sounds awesome and wide open. Grow some ears
cosmic 21 is the winner here:)
