I do not understand your version of logic, Mark. The tithe is given from one's increase. I'm not a farmer, or a rancher, so I don't have literally bread or meat to bring as my tithe, but every two weeks my employer pays me, and that is my increase. According to God's law, I am to bring a tithe amounting to the first ten percent of my increase. You say there's no biblical evidence Yeshua (Jesus) or his talmidim (disciples) tithed, but you are completely ignoring one very simple truth: they were, each and every one of them, members of God's chosen people: Isra'el. Therefore, they all followed the Law of God - all 613 written laws, which includes the tithe. In Matthew 5:17-20, it is recorded that Yeshua (Jesus) came not to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to be the fulfillment of them. How could He have said what he did at that moment and not been a liar if had not also been a tither when he was supporting his family as a carpenter? Many of the disciples were fishermen before they answered the call. Do you suppose they continually broke God's Law and did not tithe of their increase? I'm sorry, sir, but your logic is faulty.

@@ceciljacobs1221 The term "increase" in the Bible was always a reference to what the land brought forth. There's nothing wrong with tithing according to one's discretion. There's just nothing in the Bible that ever told anyone to tithe from earned wages to a religious institution. As far as "the law" under the Old Covenant, there's a difference between moral standards, ceremonial and civil ordinances, and cultural norms. It makes sense that there's no biblical record of Jesus or the disciples ever paying or receiving a tithe. Tithes were remitted from farmers and cattle raisers. There's no biblical record of tradesmen, merchants, or anyone who earned wages ever tithing under Mosaic law or otherwise. And yes, Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant system of atonement, rendering it and the ceremonial and civil ordinances that supported it such as the land tithe and the tithe of the herd obsolete. God's commanded tithe is produce and livestock Lev. 27:30, 32, Num. 18:27, Num. 18:28, Deut 12:17, Deut. 14:22, Deut. 14:23, Deut. 24:21, Deut. 26:12, 2 Chron. 31:5, 2 Chron. 31:6, Neh. 10:37, Neh. 13:5, Mal. 3:10, Matt. 23:23, Luke 11:42. Today's version of tithing from earned wages has no biblical precedent. There's nothing wrong with choosing to tithe, money or otherwise, to a church or otherwise. The problem arises when people are manipulated by a false doctrine that claims that tithing is a biblical, universal mandate that requires everyone to continually pay 10% of their earnings to a religious institution. This is a false claim that exploits people, particularly the less fortunate, and those are the very people we should be helping, not exploiting. Nothing in the Bible binds the believer to pay 10% of their earned income to a religious institution for the rest of their life.

@@markb7067 In Malachi 3, Adonai tells us to put him to the test with tithing. It's the only recorded instance where God tells us to test Him. That means it's important; He wants us blessed. You will not convince me that the tenth does not belong to Him. Here in the US, we've moved away from being an agrarian society, but God's house and the work of the Kingdom (to go into all the world) still require resources. I will not rob God. Yeshua told us in Matthew 22:21 to give to God what belongs to God.

@@ceciljacobs1221 If you read Malachi 1:1 you'll see that the narrative is confined to Israel and in Malachi 1:6 and 2:1 it's narrowed further towards the Levitical Priests. The tithe indictment in Malachi 3 had nothing to do with money, was under Mosaic Law, and was directed towards the Levitical Priests, not all of Israel, and not towards anyone today. So, no, God doesn't tell anyone today to "test him." And in Matthew 22 Jesus handed the coin back to the Pharisees and closed his case. His point was that money is government-issued. What belongs to God is our lives. Neither Jesus nor God ever asked anyone for their money.

@@markb7067 I don't see how you believe it's possible for the Church to complete our mission to succeed in bringing the Gospel to every human on Earth without money. As Jesus' ministry progressed, there was a treasury for it. Paul was very thankful for those who supported his mission trips. I certainly don't love money, but it is necessary in the present world system to enable the Church to do the work we have been commanded to do. If you want to deny yourself the blessing that comes from being a faithful tither, that's your choice. As for me and mine, just like Pastor Greg, you will not be able to convince me the tenth does not belong to God nor that blessings do not come to those who honor Him with it.
