These methods are interesting. They seem simple enough that it isn't overwhelming to try. Also, your questions/comments about Elle Woods and her chances/experiences in The Hunger Games has me laughing!
For new writers, Developmental Editors can be a Pandora's Box, often requiring a significant financial investment that many can't afford. While the benefits are undeniable, the real issue lies in writers who don't take the time to thoroughly examine their own work, leaving loose ends and discrepancies. There's a trend of rushing to publish books to build a library under their belt, which compromises the quality of their writing. They're pushing out a product instead of crafting a potential masterpiece. Imagine if the Sistine Chapel had been painted in a year instead of 16-would the quality be the same? In my opinion, it's better if writers develop their own Developmental Editor skills through constant combing to weed out the inconsistences themselves and stop worrying about how fast they think they can put out a finished book. A DE should be called when one took a book to its absolute limits under their own strength and the writer objectively gets honest with themselves that they've done everything under their power and need a fresh pair of eyes to see what they can't find.
Thank you so much for your comment! ☺️ As a DE, I wholeheartedly support self-editing first. Unless of course one has the means to go straight down the professional editing route as soon as the first draft is written. And I completely agree that a professional developmental editor can help you take your book to the next level, once you’ve made all the changes you can make and you feel like you need guidance. I hired a DE to help me with my own novel last year and I’m so happy I did ☺️
IDK about my work starting as fluffy, but I tend to read more fluff than write. My books are almost always more serious Ha ha And I like Save the Cat, but I'd rec Romancing the Beat for romance books since the pacing is a bit different.
I’m exactly the same! Cozy romance books take up half of my bookshelf space, but when I write I always end up in the dystopian/suspense/thriller neck of the woods 🤷🏼♀️😄
Love both of these!❤

Subbed! So glad I found your channel!! Best of luck with your book! I’m documenting my own writing journey over on my channel 😊
This video was fun to watch I love watching all of the author routine vids it’s so interesting to learn about their routine and I also love chocolate croissants myself lol 😂
That just seems a Massive amount of words to write. I nearly got there once, but not quite...the result was...complete...ly alright, but no masterpiece.
What a sweet video!❤
She has kept silent about the Genocide.
I spent 6 months outlining my novel. In now 70,000 words in, I can’t wait to be finished 🥲
It all comes down to underwriting to get a move on I fear
<3
And here I was, all ready to congratulate you on your 18K word day 😆
Lol 😂 Maybe I’ll get there in November when I revise my novel, but not just yet 😅
Not me thinking the Facebook photo was from the early 2000s because that was 10 years ago, right?! 😅😂 The story I'm working on is actually also from a dream 🙈 crazy
Of course the early 2000s were only 10 years ago, makes perfect sense to me 😄
The back ground music is quite distracting. You dont need it. Your talking is interesting enough! 👍🏻💕
Hi Linda! Thanks for your feedback. I will keep that in mind ☺️
Thanks for this video! I'm definitely going to check out some of the books in this list. I especially enjoy the fact that you included grammar books and style guides besides the other structural and craft manuals!
Hi Millie! So glad you found this video helpful. Will make sure to do a part two whenever I add some new writing manuals to my collection 🧡
I can, yes. I admire your eloquence in explaining your books plot and themes, that seems the best way to go in explaining your book.
Since I'm primarily a bad short story writer and a bad poet I rarely find that happens to me, but I can empathise.
Congratulations. I hope your book does well. I wish you every success with it. Nice to see someone who took their time writing their manuscript.
I hope to write the next book a bit faster, but there definitely are pros to taking your time and really sitting with the story and the characters ☺️
I'm a developmental editor as well as a writer so this was really interesting for me to see your reaction to your editor's feedback.
@@EmmaBennetAuthor Hi! Glad you enjoyed my video 🤗 What type of books do you usually work with?

@@RhysScott-k5o Hi, welcome! Definitely something I can make a video about. Thanks for the idea 😊

Thank you for popping up on my feed! You’ve inspired me to start brainstorming on an old idea again!
These comments are honestly my favorite kind of comments to get 🤗 So happy to hear that you’re feeling inspired to return to an old idea. Wishing you fun and successful brainstorming!
so happy for you ieva
Thank you!!! 🤗✨
Love Save the Cat!
Love it! It’s going to be my best friend whenever I start working my way through my editor’s feedback and revising my novel 🤗
Wow! I finally encountered someone else who knows Tokio Hotel! I also found them in my teens! I'm working on a story whose idea came to me in a dream, lol. I've never plotted before, and am trying it for the first time. So far it's taking me forever to get it all laid out. I guess it'll get better with practice. All the other stories I started with no plan, got stuck eventually, and I never finished them after yeaarrrs! Three months sounds like a good amount of time if you know where you want it to go. :)
I don’t come across many people who know the band in real life, but I definitely do online ✌🏻☺️ Have you tried writing out an outline? That usually helps me. I also recently read a writing guide that teaches you how to write a book starting from the middle of the story (it sounded kind of strange to me when I first heard the concept, but it actually makes a lot of sense). Maybe I should test it out and do a video on it, in case it helps you or anyone else with the brainstorming/drafting process 🤔
@@VirtualBooklore Glad to know someone else who liked them :) I'm trying outlining now, and I've read about the snowflake method, and save the cat (recent reads). So it's coming along! I just need to start writing, and that should help work out some issues I'm having. Writing from the middle sounds really interesting! Worth a try, for sure!
Heey ! use video keyords and channel tags, youTuber will help you to get more viewers and subscribers
pretty girl!
girl your skin is goegoeus and I love your videos :)
Thanks so much for watching and for the compliment! ❤️ I used to struggle with skin issues when I was in high school/college. Still do sometimes, but it’s so much better now. Foundation + natural light also help to make it look decent on camera😄

Thank you for watching 🤗
I will never again trust a flashdrive, harddrive, cloud drive, or any other kind of drive. I run hard copies always. All my character profiles, lists, trackers, everything all has a paper copy. I don't usually write when I'm out, so I can wait till I get home to consult my notes. I do have a notebook I carry religiously and use that to jot down ideas, character issues, plot issues, etc. I have a huge binder with all my paper copies in it. I will never ever be without that. I lost the notes, outline, character profiles, etc, on one harddrive that went on me, I will never do that again.
My novel is set in NYC and google street view was my friend. You can walk along the streets from Australia!
That’s definitely a great hack when writing a book set in a place you can’t quickly get to! 🤗
Perfectionism and fear often go hand in hand-the fear of how others will perceive us when we lay bare the deepest layers of our imagination, revealing our desires through the characters we create. It can feel like standing exposed, vulnerable, and stripped of ego before our audience. But isn’t this what art and creativity are truly about? They’re expressions of our flaws, mistakes, and the universal journey to find happiness-not someone else’s version, but our own. That’s why it’s important to let go of the minor details and focus on telling our story, crafting our own version of a perfect existence, a blueprint of our dreams. It might not be flawless, but it could help others understand you-and the world-a little better.
Your channel just pop-up in my feed and directly subscribed because your informative videos will help me a lot to write my first debut young adult story as I am a children writer and I published eight books for children.
Welcome, so happy to hear that you've found my videos helpful ☺️ I'd love to check out the books you've written. If you're comfortable sharing, feel free to drop the titles in the comments 📚
Great advice. I wouldn't say I'm a perfectionist in my writing (but I have been accused of it, in other areas). The problem I have seems to be that I keep thinking of something else to add, that I think would make the story even better.
Glad you enjoyed the video ☺️ I'm definitely running into the same issue as I'm editing my novel. I'm also constantly reminding myself that eventually, I will have to make peace with the fact that the book is as "done" as it can be and let it go. I'm trying to embrace it as part of the author journey, but it's definitely not easy 😅
🔥❓➡️ Has perfectionism ever stopped you from starting or finishing writing a story/a book? How did you work through that?
I'm on youtube for accountability too! Everything you said resonated so much with me. I am a recovering perfectionist.
So happy that this video resonated with you 🤗 I love how we can connect here on RUclips and keep each other accountable + once in a while get reminded that perfection is just an illusion.
I have book 1 finished. I am plotting book 2 - a sequel, and I list some foreshadowing and hints that come ot fruition in book 2. Should I point out this bits that may initially seem extraneous or superfluous that an editor might initially recommend deleting?
That’s a great question Elizabeth! ☺️When it comes to writing a series and each book containing foreshadowing/Easter eggs that pay off in sequels, I always recommend listing them out in a separate document that you can then share with your editor. Upon agreement, that can be one of the things the editor gives you feedback on. Foreshadowing is such an important part of storytelling, especially when it comes to writing a series. A thorough editor can help you ensure that the bits of foreshadowing are effective and are used at the most optimal points in the book. Hope this helps ☺️
Relatable but with my Kindle. 😂😅📚
I picked up scrivener to keep myself organized, but not having a phone app makes me frustrated. I have a couple word docs I'm using for notes and outlines and reference photos, but honestly that's frustrating too. I thought about using Notion or maybe Milanote, i want something that will sync between devices, any suggestions?
I’ve tried Scrivener in the past. I know that it works for a lot of people, but personally, it was too “busy” for me and I couldn’t focus while using it. I have heard a lot of great things about Notion. I have plans to try it out myself, specially for organizing my writing. I’d be happy to make a video on my experience if you’d like ☺️ Other than that, I’ve been relying on the most basic tools like Excel spreadsheets, Dropbox, and the trusty Notes app on my phone.
@@VirtualBooklore I have a free computer program called fantasia archive that's meant to be used for fantasy world building, but it's even busier than scrivner so I haven't used it much... I feel silly in a way, like I'm expecting a computer program to read my mind. 😆 But once I get to the halfway point, there's so many notes on world building, minor characters, locations, and scenes, plus variations of scenes that I changed to fit a new plot thread. It starts to feel overwhelming. If you do try out Notion, I'd love a video on the way you use it.
I'd recommend getting a new microphone, the vocals in this video were really sharp and it was hard to listen to this, but your voice and commentary on the video were beautiful otherwise.
Hi! Thank you for the feedback. I learned my lesson - don’t rely on iPhone audio. Will do my best to keep improving the quality of my content as time goes on 😊
Walking really makes the brain work for some reason. I do stop on my walks when an idea comes into mind 💙
HI!! Super glad to come across your video...I am also working on a manuscript/full draft of my first book--non fiction and about self-health!! I have a lot to learn about writing discipline but Ive recently defined the small steps for progress and have an accountability club to keep be going!
Hi Emile 👋 Congratulations on finding a book idea that you’re passionate about and for finding a community that helps you keep yourself accountable. That’s amazing! How far along into the writing process are you? ☺️ I’ve been writing my book for years and I’m still learning new things about the art of storytelling every day. That’s honestly half the fun of being writer ✍️
@@VirtualBooklore It's a little embarrassing but I am still at the early research stages to study similar themes and what has been said/mentioned/explored about the topic...so that I can later create a unique thesis to guide my writing. Usually once I have a great and original idea, it serves as the main motor to plan out all the rest of headings, outline and content.
Do you annotate books? 🤍✍️📚
Yes!!! I love to annotate my books by category of the color of tab and I make sure the tab colors correlate to my book cover of whatever I'm reading! 🥰 I love those highlighters too!!
Would you consider turning the 140,000 words into a duo-logy?
Hi! It’d be easier to give you advice if I saw the manuscript, but generally, I would say that if there is a major cliffhanger or a significant shift at the midpoint of the book, it would make sense to break it into two books. As long as both books feel like complete stories with conflict, rising tension, resolution, and character growth, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Hope that helps! ☺️
It’s not the writing process that’s the problem for me. It’s the “what now” after it’s written.
I see ☺️ Well, you have a few different options. You can let the book sit for some time before getting back to it and self-editing. You can send it to a few alpha readers to get their thoughts and feedback. You can work with a professional editor or writing coach. Or you can work on a different project if you don’t feel ready to jump into the editing process ☺️
Struggling here to finish my first draft, definitely inspired to persevere though with your videos! Love from Brazil!
Just take it one page at a time. You’ve got this! 🤗👏🏻
Yesss, girl! I'm also on a mission to finish my book by the end of August! Deadlines can be suuuper important for writers haha Good luck to you in this endeavor, we've both got this! 😁
Thank you so much! Best of luck to you too 💓
I’m greatful I found your channel! 🎉 I was wondering if you could share some of the things you encounter on author from a different country than America that would like to publish in America and also If english is not their first language, would it be hard for them to find literary agent? Do you have any idea on how would that work out? Looking forward to your next video!
Unfortunately, I don’t have much to share in terms of publishing in the United States as a foreign author since I’m based in the U.S and I haven’t gone through that process myself. But I can definitely do some research and potentially make a video on it in the future, when I feel like I have some useful information and tips to share. Thanks for the comment 🤗
I think this video just made me realize trash panda _is_ my aesthetic.😆
