The guy that found Juan Quezada is Spenser McAllin
Dele credito a la muchacha..su nombre y como empezo a trafalgar en su arte...
Donde puedo conseguir uno
Que costo tiene?, cuanto mide?
I’m confused about the origins of the first modern prices. Juan Quezada is credited as being the first to recreate the Mata Ortiz style but I also read Manuel Olivas is the first potter making these. My thought is Quezada is the first to bring them to the American market using a trader who found him and Manuel Olivas was the first to make them. Someone tell me where I’m wrong.
It’s actually Juan Quezada that started teaching his brothers and sisters to make them and from there they started teaching other family members and friends to do the same techniques. Now every artist has their own designs. And there are a few that make pieces that are highly priced like the ones Juan Quezada makes. But the town started doing pottery cause of Juan Quezada. I hope that answers your question
@@ernesta5459 I’ve studied a little since making this comment. There is a video out there I’ve seen a while back which interviewed some of the originals who claimed it was Manuel Olivas. Quesada, who was a good friend of Olivas, was the first discovered and the more skillful. I may be a little partial to Olivas because I own three of his pieces. I’d have to look for the RUclips video but meanwhile Read this.... jsw.arizona.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Hills-2008-EDITED.pdf
