Just ordered a TG-7 looking forward to taking some Macro shots. Nice videos :)

Quite okay information. Good job. But please check your manual on page 237 (TG7 - EN version, I assume it's the same for TG5 and TG6, maybe on different page) - "Do not use flash" with LG-1 LED light guide. Actually the LG-1 blocks out the flash, and you risk burning / spoiling the flash.

I have been using a TG6 for several years now. Most of my shots are macros and most of them are destined for iNaturalist as observations. I use the Microscope mode for times when speed are of the essence, like when the biting bugs are bad or for shots of bugs in the hand where I take shots from multiple angles and the subject is moving. Microscope mode is also great for plant photos because you usually take shots from multiple angles with the wind moving the plant around and you want the background out of focus for an uncluttered photo. Handheld focus stacking is used whenever I can get away with it. Sometimes bugs stay still and you can use this mode. If they don't you can still use the no-stacked image. For lichens, just about all photos are focus stacks because they don't move -- except in rare cases with strong winds for the leafier or stringy types of lichens. Focus bracketing is used for times when the subject moves quickly, usually inside a cloudy plastic container. One image in a set of 10 images should have the bug in focus. I then open the container and if I'm lucky I may be able to take better pictures outside the container, but the bug usually flies away. I am looking into getting an optical glass quality container for clearer pictures. Sometimes I put the bug into the container for my safety as I will take pictures of potentially stinging insects such as bees and wasps. Another use for focus bracketing is when the camera can't find your intended focus point. I miss the high zoom on my old bridge camera. When I choose not to catch an insect in my net (typically butterflies), I will sneak up to my subject, usually starting with P mode. I will half the distance with each shot. I will continue until I get very close or the insect gets spooked and flies away. Most of the time I can get an identifiable shot with the TG6, but my old camera had a 15X zoom compared with 4X on the TG6. But I gained more than I lost with the TG6 and may at some point get a supplemental bridge camera. I don't use the Microscope Control mode. It's use is limited to times when you don't want to crop your images in post processing or you want to show somebody a small bug, other lifeform or object in real time. My camera is usually muted to make it less likely to scare off bugs. In full daylight, I will often turn the LED off (I use a ring light) for the same reason. Still a bug can still be easily spooked by the quiet sounds of the focusing mechanisms...

Thanks so much. I couldn't figure out how to stop my Olympus from taking 10 photos at a time, while in macro. Brackets ----- I somehow had that on. You have saved me so much future frustration. I take lots of macro shots and had to keep choosing the clearest shot out of 10, and deleting all the blurry ones. Time consuming and annoying. Got it down, now. Also: Great tip about the LED diffuser unit. Thank you thank you. (Keep on buggin'.)

I use TG6 nunderwater, scuba, in Macro it is amazing. Yes I have friends with 5000+$ rigs who can equal it or occasionally better it. However they had to set up that rig for macro AND it could only shoot Macro, if a Manta ray swum by they were buggered. With a TG6 I can do Wide, macro, Microscope all on the same dive still or video.

Thanks. Although that works for taking pictures manually, if you use advanced features such as Interval shooting for time lapse video, it still makes that shutter sound. Setting all sounds to 0 but then having the shutter sound during interval shooting, especially for wild life photography, is aggravating. Do you know how to turn the shutter sound off for time lapse shooting?

Katie, THANK YOU! I knew it was draining for a WIFI or tracking issue but I could not find the setting in the digital menu after over a year of trying. Ive had 3 TG's over the last 10-15yrs and loved them except this one had the battery life issue I could not fix. I was about to give up!

A little off the subject here but have you used the "live composite" mode on the tg5/6? If so, does it work well? THANKS! Love your videos!

How do you get good lighting for your macro video? I have the LG1 but it doesn't work for video only for photos, unless you have fathomed out how to do it! Thanks

Olympus says it can focus from 1cm away. So when the camera was not focusing, almost at the end of the video,was it less than 1cm away from the spider or was it the camera's fault?
