I tend to forget how old the Mi-6 is. This beast was made in 1959, before the Mi-8 which is already a famous and long serving helicopter. Seeing these Hooks with Mi-4's is really amazing, such unique footage.

I like to watch this footage with Judith Durham singing Danny Boy from 1964. Although the nickname is fly banana the Shawnee looks very graceful in flight. To me the entire sequence is melancholy1961-1964 The Advisory and support phase It’s like looking at a film of a train that is going to go off the track later

It was used extensively by USMC aviation in aeromedical evacuations during the Korean War. Even though it was a helicopter of compact design and dimensions, it could carry 2 stretchers/litters with a medical attendant on the flight, unlike other compact helicopters such as the Sikorsky S-51/H-5 and Bell 47/H-13.

Having been an AH-1G pilot in Vietnam, I appreciate this video. One minor criticism is the added sound effects of the minigun firing. In the video, it sounds more like a traditional machine gun, where you hear each round being rapidly fired.
