I call BS on the latent heat question. If you heat a pork loin to 165F internal then set it on the counter it will be room temperature in an hour. If there were significant latent heat above 98.6F the person would die of hyperthermia. I feel cooling a burn is only effective within seconds or minutes for the heat directly. It's probably much more important for pain and inflammatory response.

You are Not an adult at 17, and often still have lots of growing and developing physically to do. I hear the IWK is soon upping the emergency age to 19 year old when their emergency department expands, like most other systems across Canada and the USA.

Problem I have encountered with this in practice: a consenting patient but outdated blood alcohol kits both in our ED and at the local RCMP detachment! Probably doesn't take an Ivy League lawyer to argue the validity of testing in this scenario. Who is responsible for maintaining current kits in our EDs? I inform these people that I will be reporting them to the Department of Motor Vehicles as being suspected of having a medical condition ie alcohol dependency that may make them unsafe to operate a motor vehicle. I know we have no mandatory reporting in this province but I think we are bound ethically to do so. I often wonder about us being legally liable if we don't report and then the patient goes on to harm someone else in a MVC
