I lived in Santa Fe & it was so hard to move back home to Wine Country. I cried most of the way. Just walking around Santa Fe (especially around Christmas) was so enjoyable. Art everywhere! And a park plaza just like where I grew up. It is probably 4 times the size it was when I lived there.

We live in Lamy and love it. It's quiet and peaceful and a nice community. It is unfortunate that the new owners of the Santa Fe Southern (SKY Railway) do not care about the community. They failed to renew the Amtrak lease with the depot, and there are many times that passengers are stranded because they do not staff the train station regularly. Also, the cafe was originally supposed to be called the "El Ortiz Cafe" in honor of the historical harvey house once at Lamy which would have served coffee, pastries and lunch to locals and Amtrak guests, but one of the owners decided it would be better if he put his brew pub instead which failed miserably. These new owners are arrogant out-of-towners that really do not care about the community or it's amazing history. SKY Railway is a money-grab tourist trap which is a shame.

Sometimes I think the plaza is over hyped but it really is a special place. Walking around on a Friday night or a Saturday afternoon or a Sunday morning are all totally different experiences but equals wonderful.

Those are all great too…but there are two biggies not to move, gonna run out of water and your Nazi governor!
