Testing the Roland Hocking Blackjack Rods
Back in September 2020, I started a new project, Roland Hocking Angling Suppliers. This week, my first range of rods under my own brand came in.
We took the range for a spin down at Wangim Walk in Geelong.
Unfortunately, only the Banjos where willing to test the gear out.

FINALLY see a video showing where the line is supposed to be on the catch for the spinner thing, every other video just glosses over this, mine was on backwards so it wasnt reeling in the line
Throw it with the right and reel right what goofy handed. That's how I was not no more throw with right and reel left is working for me the last 8 months. Just got us to it with baitcaster reel I can't go back so my spinning reels can go both ways.
This is perfect this is the simplest
"Put the line through, flip the bail back over..." Literally the part I was looking for help with, and it's the only thing he did not show
Will yours not reel in line as well?
@@liambronson It doesn't keep tension when it reels in line. When I flip it over to release the line, it makes a big mess, way too much line out, and then when I real it in it will get loops and tangles where it's not supposed to. I also have to manually flip it back over, I can't just start reeling it in. If I try to start to reel it in after flipping the toggle, it won't work because the toggle is still flipped over. I thought reeling it in would automatically flip the toggle back over, but it does not
I figured out my issue. The line that the pole came with had a strong memory on it and it was a bit heavier. So I learned the lesson that if you buy one pre-spooled, you really should take that line off and start anew anyway. It took care of all the issues I was having
them sinkers are far too heavy.
Every time I open the barrel the line just goes crazy and get tangled up and everything
@@Lucaskirk09 monofilament line tends to have a "memory" you could have too much line on your reel, the line isn't on the spool tight enough, or it's just got really bad memory which is commonly with cheaper lines. You could try tying just a heavier sinker on the line and casting as far into a lake etc as far as you can and winding back in to have the line under tension.
How do you take the spool off?
Thank you you just fixed my rod ❤❤❤
You better freaking videos that just don't walk
I want it to be known that mean a buddy tried fishing for the very first time today and watch this guy's video to learn how to set up a real we end up having to call his dad and ask him and he explained it in less than 30 seconds
Alright 30 seconds on the clock ⏰
Brother...I know plenty about guns and ammo but zero about fishing. Bought my son this $20 rod and couldn't figure out the setup to save my life. Your video fixed that. Thanks!!!
AGREED!!!!
Me too, thanks a million 😊
I want a rod n reel but it's too expensive in my country 😭
THANK YOU! You were the first person to have a pole like mine. Lol. I’ve fished before but only with my brothers line so I didn’t know how to set up. Thank you for this!
Note to anyone buying any pre spooled combos. Loosen the drag all the way and take the spool off. Soak it in a cup of warm water for 10ish minutes. It will shrink the memory profile of the monofilament (Line) so it's not loose and wraps around itself. It will also prevent casting issues and the line wrapping around the rod/guides/reel ect.
I'd just get rid of the pre-spooled line. It's rarely of good quality.
@@waterratfishing1648 lol fair, but for people who have limited budget/new dont really think about it, until later on ect when buying those comobs. I soak all my spools with (Mono) and re-grease after spooling new line, as it prevents heavier memory from expanding too quickly,
Great tutorial.
This helped a lot
Thanks bro
GV. Will let you know my results.
Crappie fishing lures from a store called bass proshop and a store called Academy.
Are you using "Crappie Jigs"? When using soft plastics, the more time the lure spends in front of the fish, the more likely it's going to bite. What you may find, and I admit, I'm guilty of this myself, is once you've had a bite or 2, or even landed a fish, you can get a little excited and start winding that little bit quicker. You may need to slow your retrieve a little after the first strike, even just let it sit and pause a little longer between winds. Also the addition of scents, such as Berkley Gulp Gel, may improve your success on lures. I'm sure there is a great range available at Bass Pro, Academy, Dick's, Cableas, etc.
I have to tell myself to be patient all the time. It's definitely a factor. You can't rush it.
Thank you so much for the help, just bought an exact pole and this helped a lot!
GV. I bank fish for crappie with lures. Is color a really big deal, the strength of the line. Jigging for them vs casting and reeling. Small body of water that's a run off from the red river in Louisiana. I've only been able to catch 5 so far. Cast and reel of course. Then after that 1 hits seems like no more bites.
I'm not familiar with Crappie fishing, as we don't get them in Australia. What lures are you using?
never had a dad or parental figure to show me how to do these type of things thanks man really helps
Stay strong my brother!!!
Me too

I failed..... need help please.
What's the issue?

Hell yeah
Where do ya reckon the best carp spot in Geelong is?
I generally fish Seagull, Drysdale, or the Barwon. Drysdale is generally consistent, but the Barwon produces bigger fish.
Hey just subscribed 👍🏻
Hey mate. Could you show us how you rigged that 3pc rod holder of yours on a wood beam.
I just drilled some holes for the rod holders, pretty simple really.
Great video 👍🏼😁
