Hatyai 2024 travel guide: How to go Hatyai from Penang by using Ferry, KTM Train & VIP Mini Van

I travelled to Hatyai again this year for a short trip and this time I departed from Penang island so I used the ferry services from Georgetown to Butterworth then used the KTM train from Butterworth to Padang Besar and used VIP mini van to go to Hatyai instead of the Thailand’s train.
In my opinion, travelling via van is more comfortable but of course it is much more expensive compared to the train so it really depends on your travelling budget.

Hi there 👋🏻 thank you for your comment🥰 yes its a separate tuktuk to cheevit cheeva and another to the hostel. The cost for the tuktuk ordered via grab was 166 baht. Hope it helps!!
Hi, when exit from Thai to msia, is it need to bring all the luggage together for custom check?
Hi, during my trip only the van passengers are required to go through the customs check and we can leave our luggages in the van.

How did you order tuk tuk to the viewpoint
Hi, I’m not really sure because we were walking halfway to the viewpoint but we saw a tuktuk going up so we just stopped the tuktuk and asked whether they can take us up to the viewpoint.
do we need to carry our snorkeling equipment? is the equipment fresh or used
The snorkelling equipment are provided by the tour company. They will give us a fresh new mouthpiece but i think others are used.

May i know when do you buy the ticket to hatyai from padang besar? Can you share the link pls cause i dont see it on the ktmb website😅 thank you very much
The tickets from padang besar to hatyai can only be bought on the same day at the padang besar station. So far as i know you can’t buy the tickets online and they are not under ktm. Hope it helps ;)

Hi, so sorry for the late reply. For KTM Butterworth to Padang Besar, you can check out the timetable at KTM website and look for KTM Komuter Utara timetable. Or you can check out my new video on how to go Hatyai where I also include the timetable in my video. For Padang Besar to Hatyai, only 2 trains available: 8.55am or 3.40pm (Thai time) For Hatyai to Padang Besar, only 2 trains available: 7.30am or 2.00pm (Thai time) But I’m not sure whether there is any updates/changes to the timetable as this is based on my 2023 trip to Hatyai. Hope it helps ;)

what kind of transportation you have used during the trip in hatyai?
Hi there 👋🏻 most of the places we visited during our trip were walking distances from our hotel unless it is very far then we will use Grab. Hope it helps ;)

Hi there 👋🏻 yes I would totally recommend to stay at the Maritime Suites because of the amazing seaview from the room and its also close to Georgetown area. If I’m not mistaken, I stayed at the 9th floor. Hope it helps ;)

Depending on where you go but mostly there are public washrooms available or you can find them in restaurants ;)

Yea sure, the cost for 3d2n per person:- Airbnb RM113 Klook package for the top & habitat RM90 Penang hill fast lane ticket RM40 Food, petrol & parking is around RM100 Hope it helps ;)

How much was the trip to Khlong Hae floating market? Was it easy to find a tuk2 to get back to town?
We used Grab to go to the floating market and so sorry I couldn't recall the price. You can also opt for tuktuk and I think there will be some tuktuk stationed there if you need a ride back to town or you can also order Grab.

My family is visiting Penang soon. Was wondering whats your mode of transport with such a big group
Our mode of transport is a 7-seater car because it can fit all of us in one car and its much more convenient to travel around Penang as its very hard to find parking in Penang.

Hi! In your opinion which night market was better? Lee garden/asean or greenway night market? Have very limited time there so gotta choose wisely hehe. Im staying near lee gardens.
Hi, in my opinion, since you're staying near lee garden then it will be much more convenient for you to visit Lee Garden night market. Lee Garden is more on food but if you're looking to shop for clothes etc then it is recommended to visit Greenway or Asean Night Bazaar. For me, between Greenway and Asean night market, I personally prefer Greenway because the clothes and stuff they sell there are much more suitable for younger crowd. Hope it helps ;)
May l know where you get the tuk tuk to the peak of hill at Municipal Park? Need pre book and tuk tuk many there standby?
Hi, you can refer to my video at 14:27 for the location to rent the tuktuk. It was also my first time there so I also have a hard time finding for the tuktuk so I did not pre book for it. I just walk around the park and see any tuktuk available for the next ride to the peak. And if I'm not mistaken, I only saw 1 tuktuk that is operating on that day.

Hotel may be little costlier, food about same in both night markets. Mall, floating market. Pretty standard Bangkok stuff at fractional prices. We are retired ‘locals’ from USA. Will take a train to Hatyai tomorrow. Good ideas.
