I just passed the series 6 and I am looking forward a 63 & 65 or a 7 (if I ever find a sponsor) . I agree with you, Matt. We should not be afraid of technology! I'm currently using AdvisorEngine and find it's the best thing to have happened to me and my business. We're more productive, our clients have access to their fund statements, we have account aggregation, etc. The list goes on! I personally believe that robo-advisors mixed with human interaction is a combination that sets us up for greater success.
Shirley - I couldn’t agree more. The pendulum swung to thinking that robos were going to take over when they launched in 2008. And they even thought they would convince the industry of this as well. But even the robo companies have shifted their stance. The real progress for our industry is using innovative solutions like robos and other new technology solutions to create an advisory firm that blends the best of tech with the best of humans! What do you class as young ?? How old would u recommend someone to be when they go into advising ?? Also how old were you when you started ???
When I mention young, I am really referring to years in the business, not the age. These fundamentals are part of building in the business and not an age-based recommendation. I've always been a fan of people getting in the business as soon as they can. I started in the business right out of college and this helped me grow my knowledge set by being in the business. I feel that those early years were very impactful on the advisor I am today.
