i don't get how people don't understand that the nukes were the only logical option. like it or not, it did save lives, japan would not have surrendered and they needed to be defeated. an invasion of the mainland would have led to so much more death and destruction than the bombs caused. it's still terrible that all those civilians died obviously but many civilians would have died in an invasion too
