How to repair a shop vac switch

T125 shop vac switch repaired today. I went ahead and adjusted the shorter copper spring so that it would make better contact. So far it works great.
i use electric degreaser, it goes in every nook and crany
Literally did that today. The spinny part.
GRS-4021 is the switch model. I can see this switch on amazon for $15 and purchased it. I wish I could find this video earlier and attempt to clean the swtich.
That was hilariously unexpected! No one ever expects to get jumped by a Shop-Vac. Good video and thanks for the laugh.
🤣😂
Worth to buy shopvac this year 2020 ?
Why bother, it's a 2$ part from digikey/mouser lol
i couldn't find switch with hold on top to mount pedal... so cleaning at good option.
Know this is old video but who didn’t see that coming at the end....LMFAO
Hey, thanks for sharing this. I was able to take my switch apart and fix it. It's like new now!
My switch was bad (loose connection on the pins) and ordered a replacement. I don't have much electrical background so can someone comment on wire placement? Obviously there is black and white, and two reds. Thanks.
Where did you find a replacement ? I've looked all around and no luck
@@kestrelaerialimaging628 mouser electronics had them cheapest but you can use just about any rocker switch.
an FYI...you put the top piece in backwards from how you took it apart good video .
Yes. I noticed that after the video and swapped it back.

my inside was a little different than yours, it was spring loaded but same concept. AND I FIXED IT!!!yay
*>>>**t.co/483dg7naW4** Great shop vac works wonders on our cars and and RV great sucking power just a all around great great vacuum did not get the bag that suppose to come with it but other than that it is fine*

This may help..
Can somone explain to me why the Shop Vacs are set up as a Double Pole Single Throw switch rather than a Single Pole Single Throw switch? Is it just to give it an extra fail point?
That is a question i have asked on several shop vac videos. No one can answer. Plug is polarized, grounded, why switch the neutral side and hot?
It is so that if you are vacuuming water the float switch will disengage if it gets too full.
Whoo-hoo! Exactly what i was looking for! THANKS!!
Well, its been 6 years , but is this really Frank Zappa?
Can you upload a video on how to put those two gold hooks back into the switch?
please see "how to take a shop vac switch apart"
Thanks for showing the switch apart. I took mine apart by pushing the side pins on the plastic rocker switch in and pushing it out the top. A small piece of plastic from the larger toggle had broken off and fallen into the bottom of one side. After removing this and cleaning the carbon off everything I put it back together and am back in business. Also, put a few drops of 3 in 1 oil on the top of the motor shaft as it had started to squeal. It sounds good and works good. Many Thanks !
Sorry to hear about your finger. I hope you're all back to normal again. I did look around for the switch before I repaired it. The ones I found were not the same type. The one I had in there had a rocker on the top, so it could switch between on and off. I decided to try it for myself. Thanks for the story, I'm glad to hear someone else "forgot the golden rule." Take care.
I have to laugh! I took my shop vac apart right down to the switch. I started the switch when all was apart. I had removed the bottom shield for the fan part of the motor. As the motor started it flew out of my hands (just like your video). Only problem is, the fan caught my finger and removed 3 layers of skin and left a cut big enough for 3 stitches. Glad I am not the only one that forgot a golden rule. Glad you didn't injure yourself. BTW, many places sell that kind of switch. Cheers
lol
Well its a good things they didn't supply the switches for the Apollo moon launders!!!
right on dude ! I had the same problem I watched you video and bam back in business
I had to pry one side of the "rocker" out a bit to get the nipple out enough, and it just popped out. I used a small jewlers flat head. Sorry bout that.
+gizongas Thanks again
+Don 99 Also Shop-Vac doesn't sell switches, so the 2 rectangular holes on the rocker are not found on similar switches. Need to take off the rocker to put on a new switch if I buy one but with the info you gave me I'll try to repair the old one. One copper spring to the neutral post is shortened like yours was but more so.
Thanks a lot. My switch is exactly like yours on my 4 gallon 4.5 hp Shop-Vac. It was very helpful but I wish you showed how you took the switch apart. The devil is in the details.
