    Master Suzuki, do you have plans to recording Beethoven's 9 symphonies, concertos and other orchestral works with Orchestra Libera Classica (on period instruments, including those natural ttrumpet without holes)?

    Wonderful performance! It's a shame the hall was not fully filled with people. Something I have noticed of the performance, is the use of classical bows and gut strings. I have heard from a bow maker that this combination was used frequently by musicians during the classical period. And the use of classical bow on a gut string is a very good sound combination. Gut strings are innocent in their sounds, and a classical bow can really help in that way, modern bows are different and don't match well with gut strings.

      Good point - the split violins help enormously which is what Haydn (Mozart and Beethoven as well) would have expected; it’s strange how so many orchestras today use the more modern lay-out of both 1st and 2nd violins massed to the conductor’s left with all the bass to the right.

    • @ursularissmann-telle4000
      @ursularissmann-telle4000 3 месяца назад

      @@elaineblackhurst1509that is the traditional German or European order - first violins to the left, second violins to the right. I am delighted to see this! It is also called antiphonic because it enables a dialogue between 1st and 2nd violins.

    • @elaineblackhurst1509
      @elaineblackhurst1509 24 дня назад

      @@ursularissmann-telle4000 I am not sure it is quite as simple as that; there seems to be different opinions regarding splitting the violins that do not always follow national lines. I say that simply because I watched a Karajan video recently with his BPO and the 1st and 2nd violins were all massed to the conductor’s left. I have also seen it done both ways here in England, but judging from RUclips, it seems to be mainly US orchestras that do not split the violins. I agree absolutely with your point about antiphonal effects; Haydn’s Symphony 38 (second movement) for example simply does not work unless the violins are split.
